About Fargo VA Healthcare System – Fargo

Fargo VA Healthcare System operates from 2101 North Elm Street in Fargo. The site sits in Cass County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include North River and Reile’s Acres. Distance matters here, and the nearest option is not always the one that fits.

Hospital inpatient care, detox, intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

State Licensed RehabState AuthorityLicensedHolds a current licence from the state authority that regulates treatment providers. Licensing is a legal requirement to operate, not a mark of distinction.

Detox and Rehab Services at Fargo VA Healthcare System

Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Stepping down into continuing care happens with the same team, so there is no second intake to sit through. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers.

The ER was quick and efficient. You all even gave me sweats that matched my shirt.

I have had 2 providers here literally lie in the records. Care got worse, I was told I caused myself urinary issues that it wasn’t possible for me to have caused and totally misdiagnosed. I had to move my care to St.… Cloud VA to get proper care, they acted quickly thankfully.

The MRI folks, neurology, and the MOVE program are all awesome. The volunteers you run into are always a joy. The travel pay people must be really shorthanded because they are months behind. That must be rough. Working… as hard as you can and barely scratching the surface. Unfortunately I learned a hard lesson. The VA will not pay travel pay from Minot to Fargo. I had to travel to Fargo for emergency neurological care. Even though the neurologist told me I needed to go to Fargo to see him as soon as possible. Travel pay, only authorize travel to Bismarck because there was a neurologist that could’ve saw me in Bismarck several months later. Even though I was told a hotel was authorized. I wasn’t reimbursed for that either because the travel pay was calculated from Minot to Bismarck and Bismarck is considered too close for a hotel. Keep in mind the actual appointment was in Fargo at 8 AM. I called the travel office to see what was going on and instead of being told all of what I wrote earlier, the travel person wanted to get into an argument claiming I had submitted a travel claim to Bismarck when I had not. Eventually, I wound up calling their supervisor, Nancy. Nancy took the time to listen to what had happened and she’s the one who explained why the travel claim was altered to Bismarck. However, since my neurologist had told me to come to Fargo, she was going to work on it and a few hours later, she called back with a solution and said I would receive payment in about five days. Amazingly, even though the new travel claim was submitted by the person in charge of the travel claim appeals, the travel office denied her claim and refused payment. I genuinely do not understand why the travel office is so cruel. I used to think it was incompetence or being overworked. Now I know they really do hate us. I will never return to the Fargo VA Hospital for anything.

Dental and eye clinic excluded: This VA is boomer heavy and tends to be frustrated if you’re not careful about ignoring glaring problems.

I am a disabled veteran from Florida. I had an emergency problem while visiting my son in Grand Forks, ND. I went to the VA hospital in Fargo and was able to be seen immediately in the eye clinic to have my issue… resolved. The hospital and community care sent me to a retina specialist the next day to have eye surgery. This hospital and staff were exceptional and the community care team are the best! Thank you all!

Currently having a mental health crisis. Been trying for weeks to get help from fargo va. No luck. This place seriously doesn't care about veterans. Why do you work at the va? Just the money and the benefits right? You… guys surely don't care about actually helping a combat veteran that has been begging for help.

Came down with a buddy to help him with his appointment. Everything went well. Check in process at the main entrance was fast, and they gave us accurate directions to where he needed to go. Got to cardiology and he… checked in in a few minutes. They seemed to be fairly busy helping vets.

They don't give a crap about veterans They take forever to call you back or schedule anything Doesn't matter if you're an extreme pain and can't even walk, they'll run you through hoops and make you wait two weeks Very… few employees are actually friendly. I absolutely hate coming here. It's like a jail with extremely unfriendly employees that all act like they hate their lives. One doctor can recommend something and a nurse can disobey what he wants

I would absolutely never recommend this place do not leave your loved ones here . They 1000% alllow elder abuse . My husband being a veteran to and my grandpa being here . Knowing what manipulative issues hes gone… through and they have allowed . If you havw loved ones here pull them now . Find one that values your loved one and will stand up for them . Do not let the abuse continue . I have complained multiple times they will do nothing .

The VA has taken care of my overall health case, regime and action . When a part of that health profile was not staffed properly for so I was sent to a specialist in the community. At a cost that I wouldn’t have been… able to get the VA handled it.

80% disabled combat veteran, which means the VA covers my medical coverage for service related issues. They required unnecessary tests when VA provided equipment failed, then billed my private insurance for it without… my knowledge or authorization. Then when I received a bill from my insurance company, I called the VA in Fargo for an explanation only to be given the “not my dept” run around. No apologies, no offer to investigate, no resolution. Just a not my problem attitude.

Where do I begin. They don't care about you. They won't listen to you. If you are young They don't think anything is wrong with you. I've been paying out of pocket for specialist care. I've had to call the white house… va hotline to many times to get the care I think I deserve. It shouldn't be this way.
