About Farnum Center – Manchester

Farnum Center operates from 700 Lake Avenue in Manchester. The site sits in Hillsborough County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Exeter, Hampstead and Pinardville. New Hampshire draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Licensing and Accreditation

Health Department LicensedHealth DepartmentLicensedLicensed by the state or county health department, which inspects premises, safety and clinical standards. Required to operate.
SAMHSA ListedSAMHSAListedThe facility appears in the federal treatment locator maintained by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It is a record that the facility exists and reports its services, not an assessment of quality.
State Addiction Agency LicensedState Addiction AgencyLicensedLicensed by the state agency responsible for substance use treatment. Required to operate, and involves inspection of premises, staffing and clinical practice.
State Licensed RehabState AuthorityLicensedHolds a current licence from the state authority that regulates treatment providers. Licensing is a legal requirement to operate, not a mark of distinction.

Treatment Services at Farnum Center

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine is available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Assessment decides the level of care, so ask what that involves and how quickly it can happen.

Farnum Center Address, Location and Contact Information

The address is 700 Lake Avenue, Manchester, NH 03103, in Hillsborough County. The catchment reaches Exeter, Hampstead and Pinardville. Confirm what a program covers before traveling in, since the level of care listed is not always the level with capacity.

Telehealth appointments cover some contact where travel is difficult, which removes part of the journey for people further out. Ask what a first appointment involves and how long the current wait runs before making the trip. Waiting times vary with capacity, so call ahead rather than arriving unannounced.

This place was like being locked up in hell. They avoided and neglected me the first three days I had fever and was throwing up and gagging. Then everything in the bathroom broke, the shower leaked and they refused me a… second towel to put down so I wouldn't slip and hurt myself. The sink handle broke off and I couldn't brush my teeth. I was so sick I couldn't call home to check on my husband and son for three days, then I did call them daily, their phone system kept breaking and they made me use whomever had a personal cellphone who was working at the time to try to call. I spoke to my family once a day, and on the fifth day they withheld the phone entirely from me and didn't let me call home at all. I was so sick over this I couldn't sleep. I finally slept three night later and fell asleep at dinner time so missed dinner and they didn't feed me. I refused the Suboxone the entire time because my legs hurt and I had trouble walking. The ninth day they kicked me out without letting me eat or call home. I had to wander around Manchester sick until I found a store that would let me call my husband for a ride, the store wouldn't let me use their restroom and told me to go outside behind the building and I was so sick and embarrassed I couldn't even go. I waited until my husband picked me up to go to the bathroom at a McDonald's. My husband is no deceased, on top of every other hell I've possibly been through in 2025. He passed away in a motor vehicle accident three days before our son's birthday. The world is a horrible place.

Staff is wonderful and inspiring. I come back every year on my anniversary to bring them flowers and remind them their jobs have purpose. They have truly helped me by giving me tools early on in my journey. Thank you… farnum detox staff, alumni who came in for commitments, and everyone else involved. I hope they open the residential program back up!
