Haven Behavioral Hospital of – Reading Detox and Rehab Services
Haven Behavioral Hospital of – Reading is recorded as offering residential treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient. The structured element runs during the day and people go home afterwards. The right level of care is a clinical judgement rather than a preference, and an assessment should produce a defined answer.
Mental health and substance use are handled together rather than in sequence. It is worth asking how many hours a week the program runs, because that decides whether it fits around everything else.

Haven Behavioral Hospital of – Reading Address, Location and Contact Information
Records give the address as 145 North 6th Street, Reading, Pennsylvania, 19601. This address falls in Berks County. People travel in from the surrounding area, and confirming the route beforehand saves difficulty. How someone gets there matters more than it sounds: travel is one of the commonest reasons a course of treatment stops partway.
It is worth calling first to confirm access, parking and the shape of a first visit. Reception hours vary, so a call that goes unanswered once is worth repeating rather than treating as a dead end.

Several accounts that describe the same thing tell you more than a single strong opinion.
place is a shit hole for one, and for two, they could care less for the patients there. it’s a money grab. do not go there. or go their if you wanted to get treated like crap. they use an entrapment method to get more… money and make stuff up about their patients so they are forced to stay there.
This facility is a joke. It is disgusting. My husband was sent home with no communication from the facility. No one asked if I felt safe with him coming home, they did NOTHING to address his issues. Surprise, Surprise… his condition is much worse a week later. Thanks for not foing your job
My friend was already in withdrawal but didn't know. You can learn about it, interdose wd, polydrugging and safe, proper tapering from Benzo Buddies, the Ashton Manual and Maudsley Guide (all free)! Do not reinstate.… This is the future of such meds as well as gabapentin, for about 20% of people which is 1 in 5! 5 stars? You just really needed to learn about protracted withdrawal. But anyone who cleans up the daily pee at Haven deserves thanks, especially patients. The misunderstanding & control. The slamming, music & loudness + hyperacusis, tinnitus, MES, stiff legs, inability to color, etc from meds...
DO NOT GO HERE!!! I am traumatized. I got no sleep because the toilets are right next to the bed. No doors for the bathroom. They come in and out of the room in the middle night and people are screaming all night and… day. They do nothing to help those people. One girl was threatimg me and started to hit staff. I jumped on her back and started to choke her. The staff took me off of her and boom she punched me in the head. They didn’t medicate or care for either one of us. I cried in my room for hours wishing I was home with my mom dad and dog. No one came t help me. They let me cry. I will stay far away from this place!
THIS PLACE WAS HORRYFYING. DIRTY, BUILDING IS OUT OF CODE. THE PENNSYLVANIA BOARD OF HEALTH NEEDS TO SHUT YOU DOWN. YOU DONT NEED TO BE IN BUSSINESS..THE QUALITY OF CARE WAS A DISGRACE.
My names Skylar Esser I had just gotten out of there February 20th, if any of my homies at Haven see this. Thank you ALL for making my stay so amazing. The people I have met along my mental health journey has been so… amazing and I absolutely loved it. Met some of the most amazing people and staff, they treated me like I was human and acknowledged when I was struggling to stay up and going on the right path. It may have been a little scary due to some of the people who were also struggling. But I know they cant help it and theres not much a lot of staff can do about certain things. Overall, I want to say thank you to the staff at that amazing place. JEANIE is amazing!! We're basically around the same age and I feel like I clicked so well with a lot of the staff. Everyone was so nice and friendly, even the people who scared the hell out of me. Love everyone on PAGOD ❤️ And thank you all so much for looking after me. Miss my girls Rita, Dawn, Karla, and Jasmine, and I even met my Doppleganger with the same name as me 🥹. My boys, the Daniel's, Josh, Tony, and even David. Low key miss the screaming at 1am confusingly 😂😂 I miss it there and wish I could have stayed their longer! Miss all you beautiful wonderful staff so much. Thank you all so much for your help with my struggles. I became the best version of myself when I came home. Made my birthday great in there too ❤️ Everyone told me Happy Birthday and made my day wonderful. I have been so happy being out here all thanks to the amazing staff! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Hey, it's Angela Wilcosky, a former patient at Haven. I just wanna say thank you for helping me with a majority of my mental health problems, especially the voices and PTSD. Like idk why people were complaining about… this place, because this place was great! The staff were nice, the food was good, and they rewarded me with printouts of my favorite characters from shows I watch such as Sword Art Online and Hazbin Hotel. PS tell everyone at Tower unit I said THANK YOU!!!!!!
I’m the wife of a recently discharged patient, and I truly want to highlight the incredible support we received from Reese, the inpatient social worker. From the very beginning, she was honest and transparent about the… process, even letting us know that she was the only social worker covering the unit at the time. She apologized for any delays and explained that the team is implementing a new system that everyone is still learning, which helped us understand the workflow and set realistic expectations. Despite the heavy workload, Reese stayed communicative, patient, and attentive to our needs. She made sure we were updated, answered every question with care, and never made us feel rushed. Her professionalism and compassion made a stressful time so much more manageable. We are extremely grateful for her dedication and the way she advocated for my husband every step of the way. Highly recommend Reese to any family navigating inpatient care, she is truly exceptional.
They don’t allow patients, fresh air or exercise. How is that conducive to recovery? Even people who are incarcerated are allowed time outdoors. They also keep the place at like 85° at all times which is also a… stressor. They hold your loved ones hostage with very little communication. I have given up trying to call my husband’s unit because every time I get disconnected or hung up on or told that they can can’t find him. Thank God he’s allowed to make outgoing calls. Otherwise I would have no idea what’s going on. I have left three messages for his social worker and still no phone call back. He’s been there for three days and finally his doctor called me. There is no way that I should have to wait that long to find out how my loved one is doing. I am reporting these poor practices to the appropriate government agencies tomorrow. It’s clear that this place doesn’t give a crap they're just a part of the machine. Oh whoever job it is to respond to these things saying they can’t respond directly because of privacy laws and to call the number that they’ve provided on every other negative review is complete crap. It’s the general number for the hospital, so good luck trying to find the appropriate person to relay your complaint to RESPONSE TO THE "OWNER" RESPONSE - you don't know who I am, who my husband is, etc. so HOW are you proposing to do ANYTHING about the complaints I have listed - you say you will be "looking into this" not sure how that is possible when you don't know who/what/when/where we are talking about. So basically, lip service. You COULD offer me a phone number of someone in charge who actually might listen. And I also visited the facility last weekend - small, cramped, uninviting, not so clean, super stuffy. No wonder so many people say they are worse coming out of there. Literally the overall vibe was confinement and oppression.
The therapists at the partial program are amazing especially jade and the intern Santa but the medication management was very poor
Worst ever! Staff rude, my son has been assaulted numerous times! Cannot reach out any one to file complaints!" Trying to CONTACT , THE Department of Health, this is not acceptable whatsoever!!!!!
I am a high risk patient discharged today at 10 am with supposedly a bed at a local shelter along with another patient from haven. There was no beds available. I am on the streets sitting at sheetz with no place to… sleep. I am talking with a lawyer tomorrow. I was told it was first come first serve but the shelter holds beds for people and is full.they said they are lucky to have one bed available a night.so I am on the streets with no shelter or shower or bed. I called to ask for a motel room for the night.its the least they could do. I was told by Shawn to readmit myself into a hospital. That's what my insurance paid thousands of dollars for and was also told "why are you calling here you are no longer a patient ". Bottom line is my insurance stopped paying them so they no longer care. They want people in dangerous situations. It's ridiculous I couldn't get a motel room paid for. I am seeking legal action against them. I was set up for failure. I wouldn't recommend any insurance paying for treatment there. I was supposed to be set up with a safe discharge. So much for that. They just made 30000 on me and wouldn't pay for a motel so I could be safe because I'm in the situation I am because of them.
We had a few hiccups when my family member was admitted here, but the entire staff was very understanding and able to help get things addressed and on the right track with the medical care. Dr Ramesh Eluri is absolutely… wonderful! He takes the time to really listen to the family, and makes you feel heard in addition to his great medical expertise. His caring disposition is very comforting. We have been very happy with the nurses, and social workers. The communication and care has been great.
UPDATE 2025- THEY STILL HAVENT RELEASED MY MEDICAL RECORDS TO ME! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU'RE IN CRISIS, I BEG YOU. AND GET YOUR FAMILY OUT ASAP IF THEY'RE IN THIS PLACE! If I could give 0 stars, I would. I cant even share… everything horrible about this place, but I'll try to write what I can. The staff were horrible and cruel. They literally told us that "back in the day we would have been able to tie you down and lock you out of your rooms" and also said that "this place had gotten too lenient" with the patients! I was horribly nauseous and asked for a bin in case I had to throw up in the night inexpectantly and was told "Hell no. You throw up anywhere but the toilet, I'll make you clean it up for making me see it." I was so weak and sick and just cried in my bed for hours after. I was also sexually harassed by two other patients one of whom I woke up to see him IN BED NEXT TO ME AND STARING AT ME. When I told the staff. They said I should have told them sooner, even though I had gone to them right after it happened. This man continued to approach me in the hallways until ANOTHER PATIENT stepped in and kept him back. I asked that no men be permitted in my room due to truama, and they agreed to that, but I was awoken multiple times to male staff standing over my bed! They were only interested in pushing drugs onto me that made me so sick and I got NO UPDATES regarding my treatment beyond them trying to give me meds. Then they forgot TWICE to give me meds! They mock patients IN FRONT OF THEM and laugh at them. Absolutely no respect for their patients. The majority of the rec staff were not kind, but a few were tolerating. I've been to other facilities, and they are quiet when doing check ins. THIS PLACE WAS SO LOUD! I reported them to the state for various other violations and requested my medical records, to which they told me I had to file a consent to release form FOR MYSELF. I didnit and never received my information. The lack of truama informed care and just human decency in this place was just insane. By the end of my stay I was too scared to leave my room and was terrified they wouldn't let me leave. The stay made my mental health 100x WORSE and truamatized me further, to the point I couldn't return to work and lost my job. I WORKED IN HEALTHCARE FOR YEARS AND WHILE I GET THAT THE ENVIRONMENT CAN BE CHALLENGING THIS PLACE WAS NOT IT.
Please don’t send your loved ones here! This place does more harm than good. My boyfriend was discharged yesterday, and he says he’s worse off than when he went in. He had been battling severe depression, and decided it… was time for inpatient help. The local hospital sent them to this facility because they were able to manage his type 1 diabetes. He saw the doctor once in his 4-day stay, and a social worker twice. There was no one on one therapy or any actual help. They just medicated him and observed to see how he would react to it. No mental stimulation or activities either, the only things available were a few books. Some of the staff were nice, while others were rude. The only good thing I will say is that they did let me stay to visit a few minutes later than visiting hours because I drove 2 hours to get there. The nicest staff person I interacted with did not even work in that unit normally. There are also some patient safety concerns. All of the patients are able to wander the unit freely, and aggressive patients are able to be with non-aggressive patients with no close supervision. My boyfriend said there was a patient that would regularly scream at others, threatened to kill them, and at one point this patient was banging on a wall while screaming explicatives for 2 hours. Nothing was done about any of it, and my boyfriend said he did not feel at all safe. There was absolutely no communication with me about my boyfriend’s care plan, progress, or any updates. Everything I got was directly from him in the little time he was allowed to use the patient phone. The building itself was a little janky. The entire first floor was ripped apart, empty, and looked like it was under construction. Which in itself would be okay, but I can see how that would be off putting for someone coming to this building for psychiatric care. In addition, there was barely any guidance on where to go. A security guard read off a paper in the doorway instructions on how to get to the unit, but once he sends you through the doors, you are on your own, quite literally because there was absolutely no one around. On the way out from visiting I spent about 10 minutes wandering the empty floor trying to get out because nothing was labeled. Overall not a good experience.
Wow, if I could give this place a -1,000 stars I would. The staff is extremely unprofessional and negligent. If anyone you know gets sent there, see if you can get them out immediately!
A big thank you to the team this morning for making my family member and I feel comfortable and for making their discharge process easy. Everyone was very compassionate as we got ready to take her home. My only other… suggestion is inventory and take pictures of your clothes and belongings. They had to rewash everything and everything was freshly washed. On discharge her carry on bag was almost completely empty with only two pieces of clothing in it and everything I gave her was missing. I brought that up to them and they said you got back everything you brought in and that wasn't true. Some of the pieces of clothing were mine. Also there wasn't much to eat as a snack fairly warm water with graham crackers and only two blankets we're allowed and my family member was freezing cold.
I like the techs and nurses that help me to recover. And teach me better coping skills and keep going in life, and the cleaning crew did great cleaning. And also Gloria in the heritage unit is funny. And Carly remember… Gus . Batman raccoon. I had foxy Roxy with me at the time. I do recommend this place. It helped me and this hospital is very nice, caring respectful staff. Great drinks and great showers in the morning.
My husband and I are impressed with the quality of care provided to our loved one who suffered a TBI. It is staffed with a very capable, caring team led by Dr. Marion Georgiev, MD. He is an excellent physician with a… caring disposition and his nursing staff, coordinated by Jillian Wetzel is also great! Shantaya, our social worker is absolutely superior, going above and beyond by managing treatment, coordinating visits, advocating for all of us among other responsibilities. Night nurse Taeisha and day nurse Lisa Kauffman have kept us well informed and we sincerely appreciate their compassionate care. The facility is both very clean and warm at the same time. All in all this behavioral health center in Reading is a 5 star facility and medical experience. CJ
horrible place, nothing therapeutic about it. no therapy or activities, just sit around miserable. food sucks. everything sucks. as others have said, the client advocate doesn't answer the phone. staff were mostly very… kind (not Delvania) but that means almost nothing when they're so limited. I was held against my will for 2½ weeks solely because they couldn't find a PHP in my area to release me to. I came out worse than I went in. the only "therapeutic" thing about Haven is that you'll want to pretend to be better to get out because it's so bad you just want to go home.
This hospital was wonderful. The whole staff really wonderful and the food never disappointed me. If you need help consider going here.
I didn't like the treatment I received. There was discrimination on the part of the nurses.
Horrible experience at this scary facility. The nurses and techs do not care whatsoever. The doctors see you for 1 minute. If you do not wish to try a new medication you are basically kicked out and discharged. People… with different diagnoses are all together in one unit. The food was horrible. The facility is old and outdated. Avoid AT ALL COSTS.
Absolute horrible experience, pick ANY OTHER FACILITY!!! My ER sent me to this hospital for mental health treatment after becoming extremely ill and unable to eat or hold down water. When I arrived to this facility, the… nurse forced me to try and eat snacks so I could take my meds. I immediately threw them up and got an attitude from the nurse. I have an unidentified health condition that flares up badly, I get chills, hot flashes, abdominal cramping and very bad body aches that are unbearable. When I asked to take a shower to relieve my symptoms, the nurse told me I had to wait for the other nurse to come back and decide. She came back from break and told me I already had a shower that day and I couldn’t use it as a coping skill. Meanwhile, a man my age came in with cannabinoid syndrome and was allowed to shower every 30 minutes and walk around with his shirt off. The staff had NO PROBLEM with that. The next day when the nurse practitioner saw me in the hallway, she told me she didn’t want to speak to me while I was crying and to find her later. Isn’t the whole point of a mental health facility to take care of you when you are having MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS???? This place is not here to help. My stay was early this past winter, and I have sworn up and down I will never return here, and have advised my ER to not send anyone here due to the inhumane treatment. Nurses loudly READ AN ARTICLE off of their computers about a patient that was also staying there with me at the time. I didn’t know any of her story or her trauma before hearing the nurses read the article. Very horrible stuff happened to this woman and they read it out loud at the nursing station. I also watched them ignore an elderly person who couldn’t walk at all. I understand it is not a nursing home, but get a grip before one of your nurses ends up in a body bad due to their poor negligence. You TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS. STOP TRYING TO MAKE PEOPLE SNAP. I’m so glad I got to witness a guy throwing the whole canister of water and ice across the nursing station. It’s what we all wanted to do :)
Like I said in my last review please avoid this place at all costs. They do not value people. All about the dollar and until Erik no longer works there I doubt it'll get any better. This place has done alot more harm… than good which is why I felt it was important to review twice.
This place is horrible horrible place and it's sad when someone goes in for anxiety and the diagnos them with being a threat when there the sweetest most loving person. Plus under the reviews it says contact the patient… advocate who never picks up the phone!!! Nurses are RUDE AND SPREAD LIES the social worker is also Rude. This place is hell
My brother is a patient here. My brother signed papers to release information to me. When I called to find out what meds he’s on the staff were rude and very hateful. Our healthcare system is broken. This place with the… Tower staff needs a new management and staff members with the behaviors I have witness . They are not willing to call the family back with important medical details regarding what has been told to them regarding the dangerous medications they have my brother on . I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy. They also say the doctors or the caseworkers do not make calls back regarding their patients. This is wrong. If anything happens to my brother I will sue this facility and I will win. All of this is being documented and recorded. If you have a family member and you are being treated this way. Please speak up. We can’t allow this to go on with this facility. Thanks for listening.
Update: It's been going on a month+ now and not only has Haven not provided any outpatient support.. but neither are any of the 'resources' they provide. I genuinely recommend, multiple times over, to please reconsider… psych wards in general and only use them as last resorts as they are not what you think they are - both from media and from the hidden, vile truths. I'd recommend watching Anthony Padilla's video that interviews advocates that spoke out about their time and experiences in similar places and how eye opening it truly is- and just how horribly mistreated our family and friends are. Do NOT go here- there is nothing but medication being forced down you or your loved ones throats. Not to mention they aren't going to explain the medication and they for sure aren't going to be following up on those super strong psychotics that you're now addicted to. I did my research and what I was supposed to do.. and we still were lied to and mentally abused.. Pennsylvania is notoriously bad for mental health and you should look elsewhere.. or just not at all.. because they very clearly will make it else before they try to care. And while this isn't incriminating to Haven specifically, the amount of physical and mental abuse that goes on in psych wards is despicable, ranging from the technicians abusing patients - through scare tactics, involuntary stays, forced medication or even sexual abuse - to the other patients being able to be co-ed and having actual criminals alongside others that are simply there because they're depressed and haven't had someone on their side when they needed them most. Please notice peoples mental health and help them get the help they need before things get to the point of a psych ward.. because they do nothing more than temporarily abuse you before throwing you out to continue to be as miserable as you were - if not more.
