About Heartland Counseling Services Inc – South Sioux City

Heartland Counseling Services Inc operates from 1201 Arbor Drive in South Sioux City. The site sits in Dakota County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. The practical catchment runs wider than the city limits, taking in people who travel in rather than finding care on their doorstep.

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment, telehealth appointments and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves.

Treatment Services at Heartland Counseling Services Inc

Intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Naltrexone is available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Went in there filled out paperwork for a half hour and was told this was not an evaluation that I would need to come back Tuesday morning for a walk in. That’s the soonest that they would be able to give me an… evaluation so Tuesday morning I called to confirm and they said they didn’t know who I was and didn’t have anybody available to do an evaluation

When I scheduled my appointment, I was assured that Heartland accepted my insurance. After three appointments, I received a bill for over $600 (this includes the intake, which isn't really an appt). Upon calling the… billing department, I was told they would work on getting enrolled with my insurance. I followed up twice to check on the progress, and each time, I was told they were still working on it—but they also insisted on collecting payment. I declined to pay because I had been assured that they were enrolling with my insurance. Over the next six months, I received no updates—no communication about enrollment, a payment plan, or any resolution. Then, without warning, I received a bill from collections. I find this unacceptable. Not only was I misled about insurance acceptance, but I was also charged an unreasonable rate of roughly $200 per hour. I didn’t even have the opportunity to establish rapport with my therapist because, after just two actual sessions, I had to shift my focus to resolving insurance issues. I should not be responsible for this bill at all, as I was told my insurance was accepted before receiving services. Heartland’s lack of transparency, poor communication, and mishandling of this situation is unfair and has caused undue stress. I would not recommend Heartland Counseling.

They were wonderful but be warned...they do not accept Medicare and don't tell you until you get a huge bill. Update: they said they were going to forgive the bill and set me up with someone else. I kept getting the… bill in the mail so I called to check on it. No...no firing the bill. I'll find someone else.

The receptionists are always kind and friendly; they remember me and get me checked in with no problems. I'm also a huge fan of my therapist, Natalie. She is great :]

Took my 12yr old son there for first time. Did intake. Nice person at entance- clean place, The paperwork to fill out was not overwhelming it was just right, questions or straight to the point. We were in for his intake… with a man who was very very kind to my son and listened and also talked about football and such with him made him feel comfortable. It was first impression but so far I am and was very pleased. Months later now n there r missed messages hard to get a good time for appts it seems like no one ar the front desk or who answers phone knows when to make an appt for u. Frustrating. Left n went to Seasons
