About Larned State Hospital – Larned

Larned State Hospital operates from 1301 Kansas Highway 264 in Larned. The site sits in Pawnee County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Great Bend. Kansas draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.

Hospital inpatient care is delivered here, alongside care for co-occurring mental health conditions. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Treatment Services at Larned State Hospital

Hospital inpatient care runs to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Trauma-specific services run alongside, which matters where the two are tangled together. Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Assessment decides the level of care, so ask what that involves and how quickly it can happen.

Larned State Hospital Address, Location and Contact Information

The address is 1301 Kansas Highway 264, Larned, KS 67550, in Pawnee County. The catchment reaches Great Bend. Confirm what a program covers before traveling in, since the level of care listed is not always the level with capacity. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Ask what a first appointment involves and how long the current wait runs before making the trip. Opening hours shift with staffing, and an evening slot one month may not exist the next. Waiting times vary with capacity, so call ahead rather than arriving unannounced.

People were rude but the bed and breakfast made up for it. Also did not like the straight jacket very uncomfortable when you have an itch on your back. It’s a good place to go for character building and just for story… plot. Overall 2 stars they got some learning to do.

I don't see how people can have information on other people that are housed out there or was housed out there like their first and last name where from and how old they are and what units that they are on my personal… opinion is that place should be shut down permanently I would not even give them one star I would give them a negative 10 star that's how worse that place is they are not out there trying to help people better themselves that's supposed to be a 3 to 5 year program there's people that has died out there because the staff don't care

Pretty good . Could have been worse. There kind of rough on peek shows, really is there to private time when someone takes a piss. Your all weird watching people sleep at night.

This place is a joke. They don't even keep patients long enough to get medication working on them before they let them out. They don't return phone calls so you can tell them the dangerous things the patient is saying.… My relative went in crazy as ever and is still just as crazy as they were a week ago when they were court ordered to go there. But hey let's just release them. Ridiculous!

Zero stars if I could. I was there back in 2021 as a patient and I was put to sleep for 13 days. Stayed for 28 days and they just tried to entertain us with pamphlets about disorders but didn't teach us or have us learn… anything. Sit watch a video that's it. They drug people up, they pin people down, they force you to take meds and not tell you what they are. I woke up after those 13 days and first thing I ate was apple pie because it was a holiday. I made it home before Christmas that year. The social worker was kind but offered no help at all. The staff was very rude, unhelpful and acted like they didn't believe a word I'd even say no matter what I said. That place is scary and needs to be shut down asap. Whoever you may send here please be aware and do not send anybody here no matter what. Larned does not help people. They will make the ones you love worse off. An adult abuse report was filed on my behalf but DCF said they had little to go on which was not true at all. It was all detailed and documented. I still have all the documentation. They should be sued for all the abuse they put on people. And when I got transferred out of Larned state hospital they lost my meds along the way and didn't have the person sign for mw which was protocol. They do not have rules here it's fair game to them.... I'm sorry for anybody that went here. By the way, the photo on Google is inaccurate. That's a picture of some place else Larned state hospital doesn't look like what's in the picture. Not even close!!! They are so decietful it's a crime!!!!

I was there for 60 days. Multiple fights, and the staff was doing drugs and talking about drinking in front of the patients. Always smelled of weed and looked high.

This place is awful!!! I wish I could give 0 stars. I was granted permission to see a family member and made plans to travel there from out of state. Then was told on a Friday afternoon after "everyone left" that I… could no longer see him when I was supposed to leave first thing Monday morning to travel there. Stay away and do not let anyone you care about go here.

Worst experience of my life. Diagnosed me with phycosis and just dopped me up with medication. Staff was very rude and made me feel like everything was my fault. Would never send someone I love here. I honestly felt… like everything was a set up to be against me. But no one ever believes me because of what they diagnosed me with. What they neglected to realize is I was a patient there like everyone else and should have been treated with the same respect.

It is as bad as the reviews. If you are not pure evil, you will not last. Anybody with any decency leaves. I would not let anybody that I love be admitted to the facility.

If the medical staff aren’t willing to listen to the background of what got you to the point of needing to be there then how are they going to help you other than keeping you sedated? The social worker didn’t do a darn… thing to help either. I wouldn’t suggest this place to anyone!!

all the doctors are foreign and the rehabilitaion is frankly juvenille and time wasted.it consists of going to theraputic classes that occupy a patients time but does little in the way of treatment of their mental… illness.also the medical doctors are incompetent .and it takes weeks to see a doctor if you need to,if you see one at all for whatever is ailing you.and if you are a minority you may experience racism with little to next to nothing being done about it.

Admitted voluntarily in February 2017, discharged March 2017, Because I did not grow up in Kansas, I was already in a bad spot from the get go. Threatened with involuntary treatment, because I called them out on their… malpractice Hit in the face by another client... what was done about it? Nothing. Tried to tell me that the security guards are police? You're joking, right? Anyone with a brainstem can notice that the badge does not say "Pawnee County Sheriff" THIS HOSPITAL MUST BE SHUT DOWN AND DEMOLISHED.

My epileptic son was admitted here for 24 hours and i cannot express how terrorizing this facility was! Not only did they fail to give him his epilepsy meds...they actually lost his pills and claimed no one knew he was… supposed to be taking them! They conveniently found them after I raised enough hell. The Dr's treat you as if you are crazy and are only interested in drugging you up with psych meds. Instead of receiving compassionate treatment from the nurses, Dr's and staff...he was scared to death, no one to trust and had to prove he did not need psych drugs. I truly feel sorry for anyone that enters this facility seeking mental health treatment as you will be more disturbed than when you came in.
