Substance use and mental health are treated together rather than in sequence. Remote appointments are offered, useful for anyone without transport. Leonard J Chabert Medical Center – Houma Reviews and Ratings
Patients remember things about Leonard J Chabert Medical Center that no register holds: who answered the phone, how the first day went, whether family were included.
If you have that kind of knowledge, a review in this section passes it on.
I really did not like my care from the moment I was wheeled into this ER. My best friend brought me and had to do all the wheeling herself, with no help. There is also a part on the side of the wheelchair that makes it… difficult to get through their doors. At one point, after they took my blood pressure, I had to take the cuff off my own arm. I also don’t understand the process of having someone in excruciating pain go to the back for blood pressure, then separately be called back for triage, and then a third time to go to the back again. I just don’t understand how that is practical for someone who is already in that much pain. I never spoke to the doctor. The nurse practitioner I had at first seemed concerned, so I was relieved and thought I was finally going to have someone actually listen to me. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I felt like I was being treated as if I was there looking for pain medication when I was actually there because I wanted answers and needed help. She requested a urine sample, and my friend who was with me actually had to take the sample to the lab herself. I have never experienced that before. Then the nurse came in to give me Dilaudid. If you have ever had it, you know it is extremely strong. I ended up having to ask for Zofran myself because I knew I was going to get sick. Another thing that really bothered me was the cleanliness and what I felt was a lack of basic sanitation. The nurse walked into my room wearing gloves and touched multiple things around the room, including the phone/device they use to scan patient information. She then went to start my IV with those same gloves after I had already expressed my concern and specifically asked if everything was sanitary. Her response was, “This phone doesn’t touch all my patients.” I honestly found that response pretty gross and concerning. The worst part for me was the bedside manner. The nurse practitioner told me, “I’m not going to waste my time or ortho’s time reaching out to them because they will not come see you in the ER.” At that point, I was hysterical because I was in so much pain. My entire upper leg, knee, calf and foot were swollen. The back of my knee was extremely swollen and felt like it was putting pressure on everything around it. I kept telling them that my leg literally felt like it was going to explode. I know I was emotional and probably dramatic because of how much pain I was in, but I was scared and genuinely needed help. I may have come across as rude when I asked what I was supposed to do because I physically could not sit in a car and drive myself all the way to New Orleans. But when someone is in an emergency room because they are in severe pain, I don’t feel like it should be their responsibility to lower their needs or make themselves smaller because the staff is busy. Immediately after being discharged, my friend drove me to the VA Medical Center in New Orleans. I went through their ER and was admitted later that same day. I am extremely disappointed with the care I received here, especially the bedside manner and the cleanliness. I understand that ERs are busy and that healthcare workers deal with difficult situations every day, but I still believe patients deserve to feel heard, respected and cared for when they are in severe pain. Hopefully, I never have to go back.
Worst ER experience of my life. I had a catfish barb deep in my hand and was sent back to the waiting room and only upon saying I will pull it out myself did I get into a room. The doctor did the same thing that I would… have done AND pulled my ligament out of my hand with the barb. He then just tucked it back in. I was given saline to take a pill with instead of water, no one bandaged me up, I was being sent home with no dressing or covering on my wound nor with wound care instructions. I had to ask for my hand to be bandaged and was told I’m needy. Overall a really bad experience. I felt like no one there knew what they were doing and I’m very worried that my hand with end up badly infected as again I was given no care instructions. Once the barb was removed I was going into shock, lightheaded and nauseated but there was no one with me to make sure I was taken care of. Again a very bad experience. I have never experienced this in my life.
It was very quick
I have formally submitted a Patient Statement of Disagreement requesting that Ochsner review the disputed documentation and either correct it or clearly preserve my disagreement alongside the entry in my medical record.… My concern is not about refusing a provider’s right to document a clinical opinion. My concern is that disputed information can follow a patient and potentially affect how future healthcare providers view that person before they have an opportunity to evaluate the situation themselves. I am asking for something simple: accurate, fair, and complete medical documentation. I respect Ochsner and am grateful for the lifesaving care I previously received there after my heart attack. I hope Ochsner will take this concern seriously, review the documentation, and work with me to ensure that my medical record accurately reflects what occurred. I am sharing my experience publicly because patients deserve to be heard when they believe their medical records contain information that is inaccurate or misleading. By far Dr Brittany Landry is the very worst Doctor anyone could schedule visit with. Beware she doesn’t care about the patient its about a narrative and guess work with this lady not testing nor medical science

This is where my journey began. I was diagnosed with Liver Cancer almost a year ago now. Since I have had y90 surgery and I receive Chemo infusions once a month. The Doctors Nurses and Staff have all done their jobs… wonderfully. Awesome bedside manners compassion and very kind. I can honestly say that I am grateful that if this journey had to begin that I'm grateful that it began here with these wonderful people I feel safe here with them. Thank You All for being here for me.
VERY HELPFUL, FRIENDLY, PROFESSIONAL, CARING, THAT GOES FOR EVERY ONE AT OSCHNER CHABERT HOSPITAL, AND ALL THE CLINICS. THANK YOU.
Yall did blood work and a contrast ct to rule out an appendicitis so the ct was chest and abdomen and yall caught what I was told serve calcification in LAD coronary arteries going down to my abdomen, which no CT I have… ever done. There are at Saint Mary has ever showed that calcification before. A couple of times I went to Ochsner Saint Mary and they did not even start IV once I asked for fluids three times and refused all three times. I told them if all you can do is observe me discharge me so I can go be miserable in my own bed. They didn’t even draw blood work. Didn’t even do a chest x-ray they just blamed it on my medical marijuana which it could be it and I’m going to try to get in the shower if I ever get sick again, but since I have started exercising and swimming, I have not been sick again in over a month and I was getting sick at least once to twice maybe three times a month. I will never be going back to as it’s known now as Ochsner Saint Mary ever again but to us old age locals Ochsner Saint mary is still deadwood to us!!! Seems like from some of Ochsner St. Mary’s comments from patients. You really have to know somebody working in the hospital to receive special treatment.
Excellent care from part of the original Louisiana Charity Hospital System. Also an Oschner Hospital System satellite
My experience at this hospital is more about a doctor my mom was seeing and not so much the hospital. We went there on August 3rd and the doctor increased her prescription due to a decline in her condition. The doctor… never put the prescription in and when I called several times and sent several email messages on his portal, the problem still had not been resolved. When the prescription was finally sent to the pharmacy, it was the wrong dosage. This fiasco went on for a total of nine days. Numerous phone calls from my mother, the pharmacy and myself along with emails asking for it to be resolved were basically ignored until I sent in the review request that Ochsner sends out for your hospital and provider experience. Only then did someone call me back from the hospital. Meanwhile, my mother was in a state of panic for not having her medication. We had to get an emergency dosage from the pharmacy because she had no pills left. This is really inexcusable and we have since changed doctors and are going back to the main campus in New Orleans. I will not risk my mom going through this again due to negligence.
Excellent service positive and pleasant employees who were knowledgeable of each of the procedures I had to under take. I would give them 10 plus.
The Nurse and Doctor was very kind and understanding of my pain that, I have on my knees. And trying to help me with anything that, I need to get going for my knees and very polite and kind to me.
The surgeon, Dr. Dev Harsahib was humble, kind, very informative, he read my file beforehand, had an answer for every question I had, he explained everything perfectly, this helped me understand what was happening in my… body. honestly, I have been coming here for 3 years now for chemo treatments, I know i chose the right hospital, my oncologist listens to me and the nurses in the infusion room are all exceptional, they truly care and go above and beyond to help me when the chemo makes me sick. when I check in for my lab work the girls in there know me and make me feel welcomed, like a friend, there is one that does stand out, her name starts with an S and she has been there awhile, she's my favorite. When I was first diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer my family wanted me to go to a different facility, but I decided to give them a chance and I am glad I decided to stay with this Oncology team. My oncologist watches everything and truly listens to me, that is very important when you are going through something as hard as this.
Best hospital ever for my needs
I work at another hospital for over 5 years recently. And came to Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center for treatment. And I have to tell you I was very impressed with them . There were a good amount of people in there… waiting for care and I thought I was going to be there forever. But to my surprise they took care of me, I would like to say in 30 minutes tops. I thought i was going to be there for hours. The staff was very nice and polite. The staff in the emergency room went out of there way to find doctors who could help me . They made appointments for me and gor me in the very next day. Then I went to see the people at my appointment. They also were very nice and helpful, They listen to my concerns and ask if there was anything else I might need help with. They explained what I needed to do, what meds I should take and only when I should take them and what the meds could do to me if used wrong. And this is something no one else has told me. Not only that I quit taking my cholesterol meds because my blood pressure went back to normal. The nurse informed me that my cholesterol level was at 100 and should only be at 50 or lower. And thank God I went there because she said the high cholesterol could cause me to have another stroke. And if I take the meds she is giving me I should be back to normal around 50 within 6 months. She might have just saved my life!!! I was very impressed with the service and politeness and the knowledge of these people, I would recommend all my friends to go to this Hospital for help. Hands down they are very professional at what they do.
I would not recommend this facility. We are going on eight days of waiting for a prescription that should’ve been filled on the day of our visit unless you can wait on your medication prescription sent to the pharmacy I… would look elsewhere.
