Milestones in Recovery Inc – Hollywood Reviews and Ratings
Treated at Milestones in Recovery Inc, or close to a patient who was? Your review can tell future patients what a brochure cannot: how the program felt from the inside.
Walking through the doors of Milestones and working its program is one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. As someone who's had the pleasure of attending their residential program twice, I've seen how… Milestones can transform lives, including my own. They were able to restore so much hope, community, and healing back into my life when I was at very low points. I felt deeply seen, valued, accepted, and understood in ways that would be impossible for me to explain in this review. Their commitment to maintaining a boutique-style approach also creates a sense of family and sincerity among the staff and patients that you will not find at any other (traditional) treatment center. Not to mention the opportunity to grocery shop with the dietitian, cook your own ingredients/meals in your own apartment kitchen, receive EMDR therapy, leave on pass during the designated pass hours on the weekends, and everything else in between that sets Milestones apart from the traditional care you get at other treatment centers. Milestones is truly an outlier and actively strives towards doing bigger, better, and different. The methodology behind their program is captured through their acronym SMERF – spirituality, meditation, exercise, rest, and food plan. Anyone with an ED knows that there are more factors that affect recovery than just the food itself. It's nice working with a team that cares not just about what, when, and how much you are eating, but also how you are sleeping, how you are moving and resting, how you are connected spiritually, and how you structure your habits and overall lifestyle. For me, this made the work I was doing with my therapist and dietitian much more individualized, meaningful, and impactful. They also thrive off a healthy balance between structure and flexibility, which is one of the things I love most about this place. It gave me the perfect amount of routine in my day-to-day to help me stabilize, but also enough independence to teach me that if I am capable of doing the work while in treatment, then I am also capable of doing the work once I leave treatment. Their program is intentionally designed to replicate real life as closely as possible so that what you do during your time in treatment is actually applicable to what you are going to be doing once you discharge. They want you to feel prepared for your transition home and to have long-lasting recovery. I also felt like I had a voice in my own recovery journey, which I think is difficult to find specifically in the world of ED treatment. Not once did I feel like I couldn’t speak my truth to my team or that I had to hesitate to say what my goals and desired outcomes were for recovery. They will listen to what you have to say while still using their professional judgment to challenge you when necessary. I’ve worked with a lot of therapists and dietitians before attending Milestones, and I have never come across professionals as good as Sakinah, Leidy, and Nikki. They are passionate about and knowledgeable in what they do, and it bleeds into the care they provide to the patients. They are the best!!! Highly, highly recommend Milestones to anyone thinking about treatment or even questioning their relationship with food/exercise/body. Once you attend Milestones for the first time, you will forever be a part of the family. Your care extends well beyond your discharge date, and the staff will always welcome you back with open arms in the event you ever need additional support. You deserve to live the life that you are meant to step into, and Milestones will help get you there.
My husband was "treated" here if anyone can use the word treated for whst they did for him. They didnt diagnose his depression until our 9 year old asked me "why does daddy always look so sad"...never mind that he wasnt… showering and was sleeping all day. Then they convinced him he'd never recover until he divorced me. They invited me to a family weekend and the kids n I flew down there just for them to tell me he doesn't want to be married to me, while he sat and squirmed and they offered no futher sessions with me/us. They did the same to another female patient of theirs. They arent equipped with properly trained psychiatric people but will happily take your money or your insurance money til you run out
I suffered from a chronic eating disorder for more than two decades. My first stay at Milestones gave me hope that recovery was possible, and my second stay gave me the time, tools, and willingness to pursue it.… Recovery isn't easy, but it's worth every moment of difficulty. Today, I have neutrality around food, and a full and happy life. I wish more people who suffer from EDs knew about this program and that the broader therapeutic community looked to Milestones (and an addiction model) as the gold standard.
I really can't put into words how much Milestones has helped me! Nikki, their nutritionist is fabulous in so many ways and their therapists are top of the line! If you need help with an eating disorder, Milestones is… the place to go!
I highly recommend Milestones’s in recovery I had a meaningful amd impactful experience Made close friends and truly felt held by the staff with peace and light Joi L.
I’m finding myself recommending Milestones yet again today to someone in need, so I figured I’d pop by and leave a public review. Milestones gives people the tools and support to succeed.
Milestones is an exceptional program located in sunny Hollywood, FL, with a truly dedicated and compassionate staff. I am profoundly grateful for my time here. The care, support, and tools I received have been… invaluable to my recovery journey. The residence where I stayed felt like a resort-style living community—comfortable, peaceful, and perfectly designed for healing. For anyone seeking genuine recovery from eating addiction, Milestones offers expertise, understanding, and unwavering encouragement. My experience here has been nothing short of life-changing, and I would gladly return year after year for their recharging program.
Life changing
Milestones is amazing place with incredible staff. I am extremely grateful for my time here. Gave me all the tools to be successful in recovery. They really are a top notch program for anyone looking to recover from… eating addiction specifically. They also have an amazing scholarship program to help people with the costs associated. I can’t say enough great things about my time here!
Amazing!! The staff people that work there are excellent they are very professional and what I like the most is that you are not alone. They give you so many tools to work with. By the time you go home is inspiring to… start a new chapter with a better quality of life and feel great! ❤️
Overall a strong program with caring staff and helpful resources. They focus not just on treatment but also on building healthier habits for everyday life. At times the structure can feel rigid, but it’s clear that it… comes from wanting the best outcomes for clients.
I had an amazing experience. I don’t know where I’d be without them. 🤍 The staff is very helpful too!
Coming to Milestones in Recovery has truly changed my life. From the very first phone call, the admissions process was easy and comforting. I was nervous and overwhelmed, but the staff walked me through everything step… by step and made sure I felt supported the entire way. Once I arrived, I immediately felt welcomed and safe. Everyone here genuinely cares, and that makes such a difference when you’re going through something as tough as an eating disorder. The program is challenging in the best way — therapy, nutrition, and learning real-life tools all come together to help you heal, not just while you’re here but for when you go back home too. I’m so grateful I made the decision to come here. Milestones gave me hope again, and I would recommend it to anyone who is ready to take that step toward recovery.
Milestones in recovery saved my cousin and for that I will be forever grateful. It’s rare finding facilities that treat and care as much as milestones does. Thank you!!!!
Milestones in Recovery has saved my life. I first came to Milestones after a disastrous experience with another facility and swearing I would never try treatment again. After sharing that during my intake interview, I… got a call from Dr. Marty (one of the co-owners) to let me know that kind of experience would not be repeated at Milestones. That he reached out to reassure me before I even arrived helped alleviate my anxiety and meant so much to me. And he was right! Milestones continually meets me where I am at with compassionate care, support and education. The staff is top notch. I couldn’t say enough great things about the support they offer. I am so grateful for the healing I have received through Milestones. I am so grateful!
Milestones takes a very unique approach to treatment and recovery that is unlike anything i’ve experienced before. Treatment for eating disorders is complex and I’ve found typical treatment approaches to be… unsuccessful. They seem to have recognized that traditional treatment methods are proving to be unsuccessful for patients, and they’ve made a wonderful effort in taking a new approach to treatment and recovery. My only note is that they gear heavily towards Binge Eating Disorder and food addiction, and I found some of the groups and treatment approaches to be less successful for Anorexia and restrictive type disorders. However, staff truly does tailor treatment plans to each patient. Staff meet you where you’re at and develop a plan according to your personal needs. I truly felt I made progress during my time here, and am optimistic about returning home. Recovery is life long, and my work will never be over. But this is another tool in my toolbox and I have so much gratitude for the treatment I received here.
Best 31 days of my life. I was so lucky to be there when Judith was teaching Internal Family Systems. The ability to prepare healthy foods free of sugar, flour and processed starch is life saving. Even little things… like waking up at the same time everyday and making my bed have helped me immensely. I consider myself the luckiest food addict on the face of the Earth.
Excellent therapists, nutritionists and staff who are empathetic and understanding!
Everything was beautiful here. I accomplished the goals I set out to accomplish that Milestones offered. The only glitch was that the nurse could have been more personable. Otherwise, it was a truly enlightening… experience.
I am so grateful for this amazing facility. I had the great fortune to be inpatient 18 years ago. I returned about one year ago after being in relapse. I am presently back a third time for a “tune up”. I feel a part of… the Milestones family. There are weekly support groups available for all alumni. The staff is hardworking and extremely knowledgeable in this field, treating us with compassion, respect and patience. The model Milestones uses in residential is unique to many other centers, helping to prepare the ED patient for a much easier transition to every day living. A special thanks to the incredibly wise and knowledgeable Marty Lerner for starting Milestones and continuing to take an active part in our recovery. And the amazing and witty nutritionist Nikki, who far exceeds her title. With much love 💕
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be at milestones and receive excellent care in my physical, emotional and spiritual growth Thank you to all the amazing staff and support personnel for their wonderful care
Milestones, the staff, the 12 step meetings, SMERF, fellow stoners, and the food plan changed my life. So, so grateful. Highly recommend. You will feel hope again!
I spent 30 days in this program and have some mixed feelings as it is very different than I had expected. I had set some high expectations and reality is often different than the pictures. I'll begin with the positives.… The number one positive is that this treatment center actually treats its clients as Adults they are. From the many Tx centers I have been, I am often corralled as grade schooler. There are many opportunities at Milestones to make individual choices for ones recovery and that is truly important in order to make change in ones life. For example, I could choose what I wanted to eat, prepare my own food, go on weekend passes, take walks, and make choices within the programming to find approaches that were beneficial for me. Additionally, I appreciated living in an individual apartment with all the conveniences (i.e. full kitchen (with coffee maker!), washer/dryer, patio seating, large screen TV, Wifi, etc.) The second positive for me (and a HUGE positive at that!) was the excellent knowledge and therapeutic abilities of the staff. The 4 therapists that led groups were excellent group facilitators and very approachable. One of the other positives for me was the older adult population of clients, many of whom who have struggled with an eating disorder for years. I am often in Tx centers where there are only a few individuals 35 and over and very few 45 and older. Other perks of the Milestones program included 2 weekly trips to the grocery store (to select and buy what we preferred to eat for our meal plan) and 2 weekly trips to the fitness center. Now for some of the downsides, at least in my perspective. Pictures on-line are very deceiving. The building were groups are held (the Center, essentially) is nothing more than a run-down old office plaza that is extremely dark and windowless (in the group room and dining area). It is not a pleasant area to spend the days. The apartment complex is also a bit run-down. Some of the apartments are nicer than others. The apartment complex does offer a nice walking path and "Clubhouse", where I spent a lot of time. The other caveat is the this van ride to get to/from the apartments and center. It's a bit ridiculous as the apartments are quite a distance from the Center. If I could change anything it would be the requirement to log-in to nightly Zoom meetings. I was often "done" from a day of groups and had no desire to attend a night meeting, especially the in-person meetings on Thursday. The night Zoom sessions always felt like such a drag because I have the hardest time connecting to people via Zoom. I would also gladly change how medications are distributed - it's very inefficient.
(This is continued from my previous review) On a last note regarding my mixed feelings it is mainly because I am not sure the no sugar, no flour is helpful for someone who has struggled with anorexia and severe… restriction. Many of the foods that are labeled "bad" and "dangerous" by Milestones include many (if not all) of the foods I have fears of. It was easy, for the most part, to not buy or desire any of these. The nutrition plan favored my ED brain's way of thinking about food as good or bad. I recognize that my ED thoughts surged quite a bit as I became more aware of the "bad decisions" I made to like air-popped popcorn, peanuts, peanut butter, and other such foods that I thought were okay. I also had to give up drinking any supplements that could have supplanted some of the quantity I needed. The meal plan was helpful with respect to outlining a quantity of food I needed to eat in order to meet my nutritional needs. Would I recommend Milestones? Yes, especially to adults who have long struggled with and ED and who have been in Tx a number of times before. I think with experience of other recovery centers AND (this is a big AND) self-motivation, adults can do better to manage ED symptoms while at Milestones. I would also recommend Milestones to any first time Tx goers who may be in their early 20's and have not had their ED very long. I would not recommend Milestones for young women who have had their ED for 5+ years or for adults who are demanded by others to go to Tx. It has to be the older adult's individual choice and desire to make recovery work at Milestones. Otherwise, the flexibility of Milestones will only enable the ED. I wouldn't want Milestones to change its Tx program to become the common restrictive environment of so the majority of Tx programs. It's a rarity to find a place to navigate recovery in a real world setting as an adult.
I owe so much to Milestones. I love my food plan. It’s perfect for me. The staff are, hands down, the finest you will ever find!
Milestones in Recovery is a very special place that is helping me recover from eating disorder behaviors and the trauma that is associated with the disease. As a client I have been be cared for by a team of incredible… women that I am so deeply grateful for. As a member of this community, which I consider to be family, I have come across other clients who are also vested in their recovery and will remain my lifelong friends.
Milestone helped my sister! l
I highly recommend Milestones. The team is dedicated to providing excellent treatment and support. Bonnie is absolutely amazing.
Milestones is a special place! If anyone needs help, don’t hesitate. There is a Team of dedicated professionals here to help. Highly recommend.
I am so grateful for this amazing facility. I am discharging tomorrow and had the great fortune to be inpatient 17 years ago. The staff is hardworking and knowledgeable in this field leading with compassion and guidance… for those us struggling. The model they have is unique to many other centers, to prepare the ED patient a much easier transition to every day living. A special thanks to the incredibly wise and knowledgeable Marty Lerner for starting this all. And the amazing and witty nutritionist Nikki, who far exceeds her title. With much love 💕
