About Roger Williams Medical Center – Providence

Roger Williams Medical Center operates from 825 Chalkstone Avenue in Providence. The site sits in Providence County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Central Falls, Cranston and East Providence. Distance matters here, and the nearest option is not always the one that fits.

Hospital inpatient care and detox are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment and an opioid treatment program. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Stepping down into continuing care happens with the same team, so there is no second intake to sit through. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Ask what happens at the end of the program as well as the beginning, since that is where plans usually thin out. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

A family member has recently resided in a psych unit there for quite a while, and I have to say they came out much better than when they went in the staff the nursing the management was all on top of everything very… thorough and very informative. This is a well run unit it was wet four everybody was kind and courteous and they had compassion. Really really impressed.

I went there by ambulance and EMS rolled me to triage. I had a large bleeding hematoma in my abdomen and being on blood thinners didn’t help the bleeding issue because my blood INR was showing a high number meaning it… was out of range. Too thin. The hematoma could be felt when they pressed my abdomen. Half of my abdomen was hard as a rock from the hematoma. I was in intense pain and discomfort. Triage rolled me to a room within 10 minutes. Once I was on an examination bed and Ems left I laid there in pain and no blanket and the room was cold. I had already waited 2 hours at home laying on the couch in pain waiting for the private ambulance. Add a half hour ride to the ER. Then add an hour and a half for any staff to come in to see me. Finally a person came in and I thought good, they are finally coming to see me. All she was is registration to put a band on my wrist. Then she left without saying a word. Another two hours go by and a dismissive doctor comes in and checked my abdomen with his hands and we discussed my hard abdomen and he left saying nothing at all. His facial expression was like “ I don’t want to be here “. I was in a lot of pain but he never asked me if I was in pain. Another hour goes by and a nurse came in to put in an IV for blood work. She asked if I was cold and did I need a blanket. I said yes and some CNA came in with a warm blanket. The TV remote didn’t work and I asked the CNA what was wrong with the remote. She said that some of them didn’t work. Then she left. Another hour goes by and nothing. I was so tired of lying there all that time with basically no attention being paid to me and no TV. So I got out of bed and decided I was going home as I was wasting my time here. I walk out of the room and walk out to the hallway and a nurse sitting in the middle of the room nurses station looks at me and I said “ get me an ambulance home, I’m leaving “ she said that I had to go back to my bed and I couldn’t get an ambulance out. So I asked her if there was only one doctor working in the ER on a Sunday night and she nodded yes. Not even polite enough to say yes. There was only one doctor for the entire ER. So I walk back to the exam room and lay on my cold bed with no TV Worse than that a woman came in screaming at the top of her lungs and she was rolled right outside my door in the hallway . She never stopped. I spent 10 hours in that bed with her screaming for nothing. Sounded like a mental issue. Not making any sense. Finally a nurse comes in and said that my blood level was very high ( thin) and she gives me a vitamin K oral tablet to thicken my blood level. She also gave me a can of Ginger Ale to help me swallow the pill. On her way out of my room she asked if I wanted the glass door shut due to the screaming woman. I said yes and next thing I knew the ambulance was at my room to discharge me home. They woke me up. It was 4:00 am! Finally I felt good about getting out of there. I was never given a CT Scan or Xray or pain killer. The ambulance guys took my IV out. Not even a nurse or CNA. I finally got home and went to bed with a bleeding hematoma in my abdomen and bore the pain for a few days before it finally resolved. My cardiologist lowered my blood Coumadin to a thicker level to stop the bleeding interior bruise. I have been to Roger Williams several times before without a problem but this visit was horrible. Nobody smiled. I live 10 minutes from Landmark Medical Center where I should have gone.

So, Ive actually been to the emergency room a couple of times. Mostly because I keep blaming myself, that maybe I'm not explaining myself well or I'm too calm about my pain or something. But as of now, I do not think… it's me. I truly believe that Roger Williams Medical Center is just a terrible place to receive medical care. Once I arrived with an intense migraine, abdominal pain and a elevated heart rate. The nurses were inattentive, they take a very very long time to answer the call button and at one point I was completely ignored. The doctor was nice and she did order medicine for my migraine. The migraine went away but the test on my stomach were inconclusive. I went sent home with paperwork that listed my issue as being headaches. And some info about weight loss was included, I suppose because I'm overweight. Which never was brought up, so that's odd? Another time was way worst. My stomach pain had gotten worse. My period had not come in months, but I was not pregnant. My right leg and foot had also started to swell for some reason and I was dealing with persistent dizziness. They ran test, told me I'm fine and just need to lose weight and sent me home. Discharge papers only mentioned my lack of a period and weight. Then I returned again, and people really started to get rude to me. I just wanted to know what was wrong and I wanted help. For the pain to stop. I received no help, and was sent home. The doctors do not seem to know what they're doing. Because I went to Rhode Island hospital and my primary doctor even though it's much further away and I finally got results. My lack of a period was from PCOS I didn't know I had. My abdominal pain, was a ulcer from stress. My swollen leg and foot, was actually a infection. And the dizziness, was anemia. All are being treated, I'm finally starting to feel better. The only thing I struggle with now is a chronic, intense cough. But you know, roger williams medical center will not be seeing me for that anytime soon. Because after everytime I visited, not once could the center figure out the root of my problems and help me. Instead I was dismissed and made to feel like I was faking.

My experience was so bad. I really don’t even know where to begin! I was brought in by rescue experiencing shaking chest pain and tingling in my right arm, which I thought was just an anxiety attack, but to be on the… safe side went to be checked. When I was brought in, they sent me to triage mine. I came in in the rescue after being sent to triage and being seen, they put me in the waiting room 30 minutes later they came out and put me in a room. I was seen by two different nurses one who was new. They hooked me up to the heart monitor asked questions. A doctor came in so they were gonna run a battery of test and go from there. The new nurse or newer nurse her name was Maddie proceeded to put an IV in and as she’s doing it she was telling me how my veins were good, but they were sideways and kept poking and prodding. Finally got it in which I have perfect veins She took my blood and off. She went about 30 minutes later my husband and I could hear two nurses talking near my room. They lost a urine and two different blood work sets of blood work. Not even five minutes after that they came in my room to tell me that the lab called to say that she did not take enough blood, which, in fact all the tubes were totally filled, so it was my blood that they lost. When she came back to take the blood, she tied that elastic man so tight around my arm that I asked her to loosen it a little bit she was having a problem getting more blood so now the other nurse came in to take blood and I also said this is ridiculous because I’ve never heard of anything like this, but they wouldn’t admit that it was my blood that was they don’t know what happened to it. Now, at this point I’m hooked up to the hot monitor now they came in into an actual cardiogram and they took a chest x-ray. At least a half an hour after that I asked if I could be unhooked because I needed to use the bathroom. They said they would be right in at least another 2025 minutes went by my husband, had to go out and ask them if they could come in and hook me so I could go to the bathroom. Then after I was unhooked was able to go to the bathroom no one ever came back in my room to hook me back up nor did anybody come back in I went to the desk twice to ask if my labs were back never got to see a doctor again now it was the change of shifts, but before the change of shifts the nurse, Maddie told me that my labs did come back and that they were extremely busy as my husband and I watched her in three other nurses stay in there for a good half an hour and complete conversation. At that point now, it was a change of shift. Those nurses left and no one was coming in my room we proceeded to go to the desk again and ask if my labs were back and if the doctor was going to come in to see me that doctor had walked by my room I can’t tell you how many times and she never poked her head back in. Finally, I found a nurse, and I asked them to remove my IV which he did and he looked up my labs to tell me that everything came back fine and that I would be getting discharged. I asked him to remove the IV and I discharged myself. I would not recommend that hospital to anyone horrible just horrible.

Worst hospital EVER !!!! Really deserves no stars. I feel so bad for the RNs that have to work behind these doctors. I was told after getting iv medication and having horrible reaction to the medication literally my… heart rate was 120 blood pressure 210/146 DR ANTHONY YOUNES told me after stating I don’t like the way this medication is making me feel I feel worse then when I came in .. he stated I do not have MD behind my name. It’s ignorance like this why people die. How do you not listen to your patients whom know their bodies just because you are an MD and I am not. This doctor needs a serious reevaluation telling me because I don’t like how a medication made me feel to leave and get out the ED HE LITTERALY KICKED ME OUT OF THE ED I HAD TO CALL DEB THE SUPERVISOR MAKE A COMPLAINT MY BLOOD PRESSURE WAS 196/126 when I left she asked me to please stay I risked my life because he was the only doctor on.

Mixed feeling about this place. I came in from urgent care with chest pain, they sent me via rescue (providers choice). It was super clean and very nice looking inside. I never saw an Md only saw a PA which is fine. I… had 10/10 upper right chest pain. When i first got there, the blonde charge or flow nurse im assuming rolled her eyes and made a snarky remark about someone so young having chest pain and taking ambu. They ended up finding nothing and sent me home. 3 days later I had an emergent cholecystectomy at RI. My ALT and AST were in the 1000s and i was yellow. The blonde nursing making that comment was such a slap in the face, it has stuck with me for months now and as a healthcare worker I would NEVER. Not when a pt can hear you??

This is a horrible emergency situation. I’ve been in the waiting room since 3:30 in the morning waiting to be seen, and at 6:45, they tell me the nurses don't arrive until 7:00. This is absolutely unacceptable; I had to… go to a different emergency room, because if I had stayed there waiting any longer, my gallbladder would have burst.

I want to give RWMC very high reviews for all the service I received. Starting in the ER then OR then being admitted to the 3rd floor, All the staff showed compassion and dedication to their patients. I especially would… like to mention Medina, Salla and Depina for their positivity towards my situation and their sense of humor. This made my medical situation easier to deal with. I am grateful to the doctors in the GI department for the time they spent explaining everything to me and my husband that was easily understood. The staff in the OR have a wonderful attitude and put me at ease before my procedures. Thank you RWMC staff

If you are in the psych ward, you will be treated like hell. You are placed with Alcoholic Anonymous patients which just lowers quality. The staff routinely ignored me and put random people in the silent room for… complaining. I was ignored for my issues with headaches simply to be monitored. There is nothing to do. The doctors will not treat you unless you have acute signs of mental disorders which are coerced. I am more unwell after entering than before entering. Absolute power maniacs here

Trying to contact my mother who is there, but not yet admitted. Most of the staff I have spoken to so far is extremely rude and unprofessional. While trying to find out where my mother is, the women hung up on me. This… is after being on hold for 20 minutes. This is the second time I’ve dealt with them and I am so thoroughly disappointed and very concerned for my mother’s well being while being in their “care”. *** Adding an update to my review.. Finally got in touch with a gentleman named Patrick, and I want to thank him and give him 10 stars for being so compassionate and caring and absolutely genuine in his care.

I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience at Roger Williams Medical Center. I am currently a patient here for spine surgery, and the level of care I have received from some of the nursing staff has been… unacceptable. From the beginning, I have felt like I am bothering the nurses whenever I ask for basic things, such as ice packs. When using the phone next to my bed to request assistance, I have been hung up on before I could even finish speaking. The attitude has often felt dismissive and unprofessional. There have also been significant delays in response time. On multiple occasions, it has taken more than 30 minutes for someone to come to my room after I called for help. One very concerning situation happened after my surgery, when my heart started racing unexpectedly and I felt very unwell. I called for help, and it took over 30 minutes for anyone to respond. I had to call again, and when someone finally answered, the response I received was simply, “What do you need?”—which felt very insensitive given the situation. This is not the way patients should be treated. I am not here by choice—I am here because of my health condition and I depend on the care and support of the medical staff. Patients deserve to feel safe, heard, and respected, especially after a serious procedure like spine surgery. I truly hope the hospital takes this feedback seriously .

Treated my mother like absolute garbage. Refused her primary's directions and Fatima's ER doctors. VERY CLEAR DIRECTIONS from multiple doctors to follow-up with Oncology. They instead dump her on a resident with zero… people skills and refuse for Oncology to see her. Rude, unprofessional, disorganized, and not who you want to save your life. I'm absolutely livid that I found out about the circumstances after she was discharged, but this hospital will be hearing from the AG, someone is going to lose their job. If the matter isn't rectified soon, the names of the doctors will be posted
