Today (7/29/26) was my first time meeting my Primary Care Dr. I showed up 15 min early (like the text asked) and to my surprise they offered free Valet Parking! So I tossed my keys to the dude and headed inside. The… building is large and intimidating but the gentleman at the Information desk gave me clear and precise directions. I met with my Dr, bip-bap-boop, got blood taken, bip-bap-boop and was IN and OUT of that facility in less than 1 hour. 5-star First Time experience! Thank you STL VA!!!
this place sucks the people is not friendly at all . they need to get more training they do not care about people.
We came to the emergency room because my husband's legs were swollen, and he couldn't lay down to sleep and was having a hard time breathing when he came up from the basement. Of course, he never wants to go to the… Doctor but, he was not gonna hear the end from me if he didn't. I love the fact that my husband uses the VA, because all of his information is in the system and everywhere he goes they can see his medical history. So, he's at the hospital with said issues and after being admitted, finds out...OMG, he was in congestive heart failure and had that fluid, that was in his legs, was also in one of his lungs...ugh! The doctors and nurses were very informative and knowledgeable as well as caring and considerate. Once all the fluid was removed and the tests were ran, we were told that he had a calcification of one of the hearts valves and needed surgery...open heart surgery. There were other options that were not feasible for his condition and even though they were not going to use those options. They still informed him of them. They, of course, ran down the pros and cons, risks, and rewards. He has had the surgery now, 4 days ago. I am glad that all went well despite how long it took for him to come off the ventilator. But I even heard that was normal. Thank you, Cardiac team! The communication from all that nurses but especially Mary Ann Cunningham was superb. She is so thorough that she saw that I wasn't feeling well and knew that I would be taking care of him when he got home. She persuaded me to go to the doctor to get checked out from what I was telling her about my symptoms. And yes, I had the flu. She wanted to make sure I was well enough if I was gonna take care of my husband when he came home. I know people complain about the VA and its hospital and doctors, but not today. It's not the fanciest place. But the meals are good. The nurses do seem to care and will assist if you need their help, and there are plenty of resources, if neededcheck with your caseworker. Mary Ann helped with getting my husband's FMLA papers back to his employer. She is a great resource to have, Not only is she knowledgeable, but she shows that she cares and has an eye and passion for what she does. Her "bedside manner" is unmatched! There were no "dumb questions" with her! She gets back to you and informs you of any updates. She is really busy, but she will get back to you. Seeing that I couldn't come back to see my husband due to my flu diagnosis that communication was invaluable to me. I hope the new administration sees the benefit of funding our VA medical hospitals, clinics, an it's staff. A BIG thanks from me and my husband! Updated photo: 9 months later, after surgery. Thank God for the VA, heart team!!!
Usually in and out quickly for appoi tments
Turned in a couple of blue maintenance shirts that I had picked up at my building from a veteran who I met.
I was just at the John Cochran VA facility on the ninth floor today. As soon as you get off the elevator, there is a high smell of mold and mildew. I caution all veterans and patients to wear a mask when visiting the… ninth floor. Once again, please use caution and wear a mask. 08-25-25
Very beautiful and I love it 💞🤩
I was not very impressed with the area, parking, or the care offered here. Staff was pretty nice and helpful but you can tell the VA doesn't seem to put alot into this building or into the services offered at this… location. Jefferson Barracks are much nicer!
Lets keep pushing back treatment. It's only cancer. Pam in scheduling should be fired. Waited 2 months from consult to reach out. Had to have provider get with supervisor to call. Glad to get letters about scheduling… from 2 months ago with stamps from mailing 2 months past the date on the inside letter. My providers are great but these annoying scheduling department is what keeps causing issues. Ask questions? Oh bad idea. They yell at you then hang up.
A wonderful place for Vets to receive assistance.
Had a very very bad experience with the Dental department about a year and a half ago, maybe 2 years ago now. Never wrote about it before. I ended up using community care after they messed me up over a cavity. Had off… base care in Belleville IL take care of me due to incompetent dental department. The belleville dental shaved down and corrected what the dental at the VA screwed up. Wouldn't recommend any dental services here.
Very informative and promt
The staff that I’ve ran into during my visits have been excellent especially in dental, specifically Angela. Sometime things are a little complicated over the phone when being transferred but the staff is friendly and… professional and try to love at a speedy rate if possible.
Greatest emergency care team in St. Louis! I unfortunately had to come here for a nasty stomach infection and the staff were friendly, sympathetic, timely and knowledgeable. The nurses and doctor worked to ensure I was… comfortable my entire stay. I was discharged but landed myself back here and due to a broken foot. Again, the staff treated me with compassion, responded rapidly and got me in and out in a few hours. This emergency room works tirelessly and it shows!
A grand group of professionals, they help make my life easier & more comfortable. From the front door to the back door,.....now a word to the never ending complainers.....the way you are treated....is a reflection of… your own rotten personality. Regards
The Veterans Healthcare System has, and continues to, save Veterans lives, including mine.
I have been seen in other VA systems, and this is by far the fastest, most efficient VA I have visited. So far I have seen my primary care, optometry, and radiology for a CT. Scheduling was fast and my appointments were… smooth. I am going to be spoiled by these caring providers whenever I have to move again.
There was a skinny black lady that work in the eyeglass department that heffa was rude and probably needs more training.
Gastroenterologists seem confused on how the VA system works, also you keep seeing different staff and keep getting a different plan on treatment, or recommendations, without any orders getting put into the system. The… GI Lab nurses are helpful and caring. The Women’s Health mammogram/ultrasound needs to be improved, they need to hire more breast imaging specialized radiologists, I shouldn’t be asked totally inappropriate questions by male radiologists. I hope this new director will bring improvements to the STL VA system, but I’m not holding my breath.
I’ve been to quite a few VA’s and this one takes the award for being the laziest at doing their jobs. You can not get the call center to answer their phones, Then you call the operator at the facility and she has an… attitude about doing her job. They like to schedule you appointments with no letter, call, or email and then say you no showed when you have absolutely no idea about the appointment, or you cancel/reschedule it and they never do it and you become a no show. Then we go to the doctors, the first one I had was absolutely useless, she wouldn’t screen anything because of “age” and “you’re in shape” and “white people problems” (her exact words) and if you were to go in with a broken leg she’d argue with you to why she wouldn’t want to do anything to confirm. It took over a year to get a new doctor even with proof of all that. The new doctor does his job but once you leave him, your treatment goes nowhere because you can’t get ahold of anyone. It’s such a great place to be seen..
