Sandstone Care Alexandria – Alexandria Reviews
Nobody knows a treatment program like the patients who went through it. Their reviews of Sandstone Care Alexandria in Alexandria, and those of their families, are collected here.

Family Group: Family Group was a good way to find time to explore my issues with my family / loved ones, and allowed them to show support in a safe environment. The timing usually worked out so that people with jobs… could make it in however there were some scheduling issues early on (due to staff changes) which were resolved. IOP: IOP was a group therapy experience for people of my age range 18-35. Having a community of non judgemental people who may be experiencing similar things and, being able to find solice or advice in the group allowed for personal reflection and growth. Individual therapy: Personally I enjoyed individual therapy, just a 1 on 1 where you can work out your own problems with your therapist. Sandstone has it scheduled for once every two weeks which I personally felt wasn't enough but, once my feelings were known I was told I could change the schedule which I appreciated. Transportation: Transportation can be provided which I used and is safe and reliable. It was helpful for me to get myself on a schedule. Snacks and refreshments: Snacks can be provided but sometimes (due to shortage in supply, not due to staff) snacks are not always available. However refreshments such as water coffee and tea are always available and are helpful. Psychoeducation: This was my first sort of therapy experience ever in my life and I learned a lot about myself and my own brain. Learning how to combat negative thoughts and my own tendencies about reading people has been helpful towards my growth as a human being. Overall I believe sandstone was a great program. But if you are looking to come know that you will only get out as much as you put in. So if you come in unwilling to learn and with a negative attitude, your results might not be as great as if you are ready and willing to change your life. Shout-out to all the staff (as of 08/27/26) these guys are pretty cool.👍
Sandstone was the best long term-therapeutic experience I’ve ever had. Out of dozens of experiences, my therapist Elizabeth Krug, is likely the best therapist I’ve ever had. Through CBT, group therapy, and personal… sessions, I thrived. Sandstone is a great and worthy practice.
It is a very nice place all the personnel make you feel welcome they explain everything easily and in good manners
Without a doubt, Sandstone saved my life.
The call center was very kind but incompetent in placing my loved one in the right care. When someone is coming from a psych hospital they should go to the next level of care, residential, and not skip to go to PHP.
I wouldn’t recommend going here. The therapists are just not good at their jobs. Getting a degree does not make you a good fit for the profession and an employer has no way of knowing that so it’s not all Sandstone Care… places but this one is particular is bad. They have nothing of substance in their program and the staff failed to create a safe space for me. I experienced peer pressure, bullying, and disrespect regularly here and the staff never picked up on clear cut examples of all three things. I was safer when I was in high school than I was here.
Used Sandstones services for a loved one. All of the staff was extremely helpful from beginning to end. It's clear that everyone there wants to help. My loved one got the care they needed and I am extremely greatful for… that!
I was placed with a wonderful agent named Kevin who provided other resources and avenues for the care that I needed that I was not able to find myself. Kevin went above and beyond to help me and I truly appreciate it.
Without Sandstone, I’m not sure I’d still be here. Sandstone brought light back into my life. The therapists and staff were incredibly patient, kind, and understanding, taking the time to guide me through every step of… the process. Elizabeth, my therapist, was especially attentive to my progress. She walked me through each step without ever making me feel pressured or ashamed. Since completing the program, I have noticed significant personal growth. At first, stepping out into the world felt scary, but the tools and knowledge I gained from Sandstone helped me find my footing. Over time, I’ve seen improvement in my ability to regulate my emotions and reactions, communicate more effectively, manage my anxiety, and maintain my sobriety. I truly wish I could continue my journey with Sandstone and hope they eventually offer a program that meets even once a week. Once you find your place at Sandstone, it feels like a second home surrounded by people who genuinely encourage your sobriety and personal growth, from both the therapists and fellow patients.
They were caring and quick to get us some help. We shall see if this works.
This place was not worth the money. My adult child went there in 2025 as an outpatient and the staff just wasn't strong enough for our family dynamics. The family therapist didn't have the tools to navigate difficult… family systems. They need to hire psycholigists and people with signifcant experience. My child only stayed about a fifth of the time and then left but we still had to pay thousands of dollars (that we didn't have) for the full time period.
The therapists consistently fail to make the space safe and the activities are unplanned and useless; especially Friday’s where you watch a movie. I was bullied while here and the staff wanted me to keep going to groups… with my bullies like nothing happened because they wanted to keep getting my money. Go anywhere else. Literally anywhere else if you have options.
Had a horrible experience here. Entered their PHP program Nov 2024 and was kicked out January 2025. Had difficulty arriving on time and did my best to attend everyday. No one was in charge at the time and everything was… extremely uncoordinated. Never had a one on one therapy session either. Eventually discharged for attendance but in hindsight they should have recommended me for inpatient. Lost my job as a result of the discharge. As someone going through a crisis at the time, I felt judged , overlooked, and passed over. For PHP people, on Fridays they literally just watch movies. The only plus side were the other participants. Activities were really juvenile and they only spend 40 minutes on actual group therapy before breaking into the activity where group members worked in silence for the remaining hour. You then shared what you worked on but the total time Spent doing actual therapy was extremely minimal. Seemed to only care about the money you bring. Also, they were not interested in doing any type of paperwork like FMLAs, STD or LTD. Would rate it zero if I could. Beware. If you’re in an actual crisis look else where. This place is just a babysitting facility for those already receiving outside care.
I was so stuck in my childhood trauma that I couldn’t live the best life I wanted. I felt like I had lost my free will to my trauma, allowing it to keep me from being present in the moment. I had been addicted to video… games and substances, hurting both my life and my marriage by not living in the present, and eventually, I had a mental breakdown. After that breakdown, I started taking medication, which helped me a lot, and I realized how grateful I am for my husband and my friends who have been supporting me this whole time. They always tried to bring me back to the present moment, and they never took advantage of my vulnerability. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to stay alive or begin this journey of recovery from my childhood trauma at SandStone. While I was in PHP at SandStone, I learned so much about myself and my trauma. Also, I learned why I couldn’t use my free will to make my life better and happier. It was all in my head, believing that my childhood trauma had broken me so badly that I couldn’t enjoy my current life. This realization came from Lucy, my therapist...She was there for me, listening without judgment or rushing to conclusions, unlike other therapists I’ve met. I could feel her compassion and care, and that’s why I was able to unpack my trauma fully and truthfully with her. Before I met Lucy, I knew in my head the best way to think and live my life, but my trauma kept dragging me into the past, preventing me from truly living. I was using my free will to dwell in the past, and this toxic pattern kept me from living the present moment. However, after opening up to Lucy, I was able to own my trauma with the hope and tools she gave me. Now, I have this mindset to live the best life I can, not only physically, but also "mentally and spiritually". Thank you so so much, Lucy...Also, thank you so much, Kerrie, for everything you did to make sure my treatment went well! Lastly, I wish all the best for everyone at SandStone. Don’t let "negative experiences" take away your hope for recovery. It is too valuable to lose. Stay strong and positive. Only you have the answer to your recovery, not others. A therapist like Lucy will help you find it as long as you don't give up on yourself.
Sandstone care helped me a ton with my recovery of my mental health would not have made the strides I did without support from my great theparist like Romel, Brandon and lucy. Alongside the other amazing patients in… group therapy! thank you
They helped me learn new skills and were very supportive through everything I went through!
I came to sandstone very scared. I had never done therapy before. I found the experience to be great. Took me a little bit to warm up to everyone, but the stuff and everyone were very welcoming. I still use some of the… stuff I learned from the sessions.
Great staff! Everyone was accommodating and helped us navigate through our situation. Sophie was the best and my son really connected with her. Thanks Sandstone
I found the staff very cooperative and understanding and the atmosphere friendly. Overall, our experience was good! I would recommend it.
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! Administration does not care about client safety, and dismisses concerns of violent behaviors. Do not let your child go here if you truly value their mental health and physical safety. It’s not the… therapists, it’s the admin.
