About Stonington Institute – North Stonington

75 Swantown Hill Road in North Stonington puts Stonington Institute inside a short drive of Mashantucket, Old Mystic and the towns around them. That radius takes in Old Mystic, Hopkinton, Pawcatuck and Ashaway, all within 8 miles. North Stonington sits in New London County, and the county’s own provision is limited enough that this site draws from a wide area.

Stonington Institute delivers detox and residential treatment. Medication-assisted treatment is part of the offer, the approach with the strongest evidence for opioid dependence. Dedicated support for veterans is available. Licensing sits with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, alongside federal SAMHSA registration.

Stonington Institute – North Stonington Detox and Rehab Services

Stonington Institute – North Stonington offers detox and residential treatment. The withdrawal stage is clinically observed, which is what makes it safer than stopping alone. Cost, travel and waiting time are all worth weighing together. Ask whether family can be involved and at what stage.

Only one side is covered here, so ask directly if both are needed. Medication and talking treatment run together under clinical oversight. Ask what happens if the recommended level of care is not available immediately. Anyone can ask what a typical week looks like before starting.

My experience with this facility was extremely concerning. There were serious issues with how patients were treated and cared for. Patients WILL BE handled inappropriately and be physically mistreated. Your personal… belongings will go missing, which added even more distress to an already scary situation. This facility is supposed to be a safe environment where people can receive professional care and support while they are at one of the most vulnerable points in their lives. What I witnessed and experienced did not leave me with confidence that anyone will be safe here. If you are considering sending a loved one here, I strongly encourage you don't.

The worst detox ive ever been through!!! Not only is the place filthy my 1st night there everything was fine until I got message 1st night nurse had no clue how a fentanyl detox works. There were offering me suboxon… 12hrs afterward I arrived and told them I used. Will be reporting them to everyone possible. Then next morning they called 911 on me and were clueless as to why my my heart rate was 140ish after they woke me up for vitals at 430am. So not only did they get me stuck in the hospital allday for something they could of handled themselves. The parametics themselves were disgusted by the place and told me they constantly send people to ER For no warranted reason they over medicate there clientele at night then come in the room every 20min to do a breathing check!? Is this place serious??? They should lose there license for doing that to people. Paramedics also told me and the Backus hospital separately they send @ least 20 people a month to there hospital for over medicating there clientele unbelievable wish I knew this would of never wasted my time so my score out of 10 is the 💩emoji literal -4 out of 10 they might actually just kill you with there incompetentance stay far away!!!!

I would like to say it was a good experience, but I can’t. I was detoxing from alcohol and that’s never a pleasant experience but the staff that are put in place to find you aftercare leave a lot to be desired not… having access to a telephone is one of the more crazy experiences in this day and age. I can’t believe it’s 2026 one telephone that gets turned on only at 4 PM is one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard of. I have a terminally ill mother and they would not give me access to a telephone until after 4 PM which I had to share with at least 20 something people that were all wanting to make phone calls at 4 PM also for one reason or another I would like to add photos, but you cannot have your phone with you in that program. I think it’s because they do not want you to try to set up your own aftercare because I was told I should go to their program at trails corners Groton and find a program from there. I have been to trails corners before and that is not a place to be transferring to another program. I think it’s kind of a scam but back to the photos. There is one main room where meds are given out. Vital signs are taken and people watch TV. they have rights that are so bright. They made my anxiety problem worse I was told they could not be shut off or dimmed because they were needed for the security cameras so for 13 days, I had sat underneath these lights that were as bright as something that I felt was a tanning like the light was so bright you could not see the TV well from one side of the room. I was not the only one that felt that the lights were crazy bright even the staff had commented on how bright the lights were the clinicians had faxed paperwork over to a few different rehabs for me, but the follow up effort was less than satisfactory so if you wanna go to their sister rehab in Groton, that’s not a problem, but there are over 100 people in that program at a time they’re like the fast food of recovery and I mean the lower end of fast food. I don’t think I’ll ever do that again I would find recovery in a Third World country first.

The Clinicians and some of the teachers are decent but the dorms you where you actually reside are horrible and the staff there can be rude and dismissive. I witnessed several overdoses, people nodding out, getting… drunk, smoking crack etc. This is not the right environment for recovery. On another note, the place is filthy and rife with black mold. I wouldn't recommend this "institute" to my worst enemy.

I had a great experience at Stonington Institute. It was a good place for my recovery, and I learned a lot during my time there. The director, Bill S., was excellent, and the staff were kind, respectful, and knew how to… communicate with patients in a supportive way. Everyone treated me with professionalism and compassion. Overall, my time at the institute was a very positive experience, and I’m grateful for everything I learned during my recovery.

At first had some issues medical conditions and allergies to red dye and red sauce. The staff worked immediately to get replacement meals put together for me when the kitchen couldn't the Dr approved medication my… husband brought in my insurance kept denying due the red dye allergy. The staff all around gave the best care the could of with someone with my continuous health heart nd conditions. They even went so far to make sure I got cracher wit my seizure meds bc I wasn't supposed to take on a empty stomach. I give it a five star rating bc I accomplished successfully with the team of charm. Heather bill had his role nd Roger but mainly the staff over in the dorms who deals with us 7 days a week

I thought that kids were searched upon admission and they are not allowed to have cash and cell phones. Also, why aren’t they being watched when they are giving out prescription medications? The kids are crushing their… Wellbutrin and snorting it. You people running the rehab are a big part of the problem why these kids don’t stand a chance. I think a call to the CT Department of Health is in order.

DONT BELIEVE THEIR WEBSITE! This is a terrible place. You will not recover here. Full of homeless people living off the system, doing drugs in the dorms, disgusting filthy living conditions. I can’t believe this place… is still in business. When I reported the drug use I saw, I was screamed at for ‘not reporting it sooner’ I had been there for 30 minutes. There is SA going on, sexism, this place is close to hell. I left the same day I came. They discharged me without giving me my controlled medicine as well. Can’t get a hold of them. The first thing I was told by another patient was to “run” and that I’ll only get worse here.

Impossible to get ahold of anyone that works at this facility. Expect to call 10 ten times and still get no answer. Trying to get a doctor note for my job is nearly impossible. I was there for 3 days, they could not… help me with my needs, there “was no protocol”… so why even take me in to have me suffer?? After day 3 I was sent to the icu unit in Rhode Island. Stay away. Place is also dirty, only one good hot shower that works decent
