Suburban Hospital – Bethesda Detox and Rehab Services
What Suburban Hospital – Bethesda offers, on record, is detox and residential treatment. Detox runs under medical supervision, and the first three days carry the highest risk with alcohol and benzodiazepines. Anyone unsure which level fits should ask for an assessment rather than choosing from a list, since placement criteria exist precisely to make that judgement.
The record does not show integrated provision, so confirm this if it matters. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. Ask what a typical week involves before committing, since the schedule determines whether the program is workable alongside work or family.

Suburban Hospital – Bethesda Reviews and Ratings
For a view of Suburban Hospital beyond its license and service list, read the reviews in this section. Patients and families use them to describe the admissions process, the staff and the day-to-day running of the program.
Mom was there for several days. The nursing staff on her floor was inattentive, possibly severely understaffed. Despite her using the call button, or her visitors asking for help at the nurses station, she was left for… HOURS in soiled diapers, many times, just inviting additional infection. On a positive note, the Doctors and their support staff who worked with her were wonderful. But it was the lack of care for patients’ basic hygiene that ultimately shaped our experience with Suburban.
Caring, supportive & friendly. Thank you 🙏🏻
I'm giving the hospital 5 stars, with a note that there is room for improvement. To the nurses and techs on my floor, thank you. I know how hard you worked to get med orders corrected, ensure I received meds on time,… and just provide care. My amazing nurses: Beatrice, Alice, Brigitte, Maria, Miriam, and Tijani. (Apologies if I forgot any names.). To the nurses who brought me an oral thermometers after recognizing that the thermal scan thermometer was reading 2-3 degrees below the oral one. Beatrice-I loved how amazingly honest our conversations were, how you heard me when I explained that I got overwhelmed with too much noise that time. You don't know how much that meant. My techs were also amazing - especially Marie who came by to check on me even when assigned elsewhere. ❤️. Ashoal, you came it with that amazing smile. Lans - you too - especially when we compared the thermal scan thermometer to the oral (because the thermal read low.) (I know I'm missing names, but believe me I remember you.) Nurse managers, Yemi and one other (I'm so sorry for blanking on your name), but you both listened and heard my concerns/suggestions. To the OTs and PTs on my floor - Tony, Xuan, Shuling, and Mark - your suggestions, handouts, and everything were so helpful. Tony, including my husband in the PT visit was PERFECT! That helped him replicate the support at home. To the peri-op nurse who so diligent entered medications thank you so much. Dr. Rebecca Shaffer, Infectious Disease, your consult was so appropriated. And you truly seemed to understand the battle that those of us with chronic illness encounter. You ensured I wasn't discharged the day after that 102.4 fever. Thank you. I appreciated your direct communication style and the opportunity to meet you. Leslie and Dominique, Case Management, thank you for helping me navigate home health. You made it so easy for me. Yes, I know it's your job, but I want you to know it helped me and meant a lot. Dr. Yi, (hospitalist) before I was discharged, you came by my room to do a physical exam, etc. We had a very frank conversation about some of the challenges I had in the hospital (e.g., getting my nebs BID for airway clearance, med timing, etc.). I know we didn't come away with major solutions, but I also felt like you heard the impact of those challenges on my stay. I truly appreciate you hearing and acknowledging those concerns and explaining from the hospitalist perspective why some of those things occurred. I will send a letter explaining those in hopes of administration etc coming up with a plan that will benefit all patients-not just me. In turn it would help the nurses (and Hospitalists). George-Marie Garber, CRNP DNP in pain management, thank you for listening without judgement to the medications that worked and didn't work. You were amazing! When you realized there were major lags in timing my pain meds and said "Give me one minute and this will be fixed" and walked out of the room ... Thank you ❤️ I haven't even talked about the room yet, but it was absolutely amazing. Wonderful natural light (for a person who doesn't like overhead lights that much it was amazing), an electronic board with the schedule/allergies, a couch that folded out into a bed, and a recliner. Everything was clean. Yes, there are things to improve like ensuring medication types, brands, and timings are accurately ordered according to the patients normal schedule. I understand that the hospital doesn't stock some medications but when the patient meets with the peri-op nurse, they are told to bring those to the hospital in original bottles for verification by the pharmacy. For example, for me...Claritin is an inadequate substitution for Clarinex, levothyroxine is an inadequate substitution for brand Synthroid, Albuterol inhaler is not a substitute for my xopenex followed by hypertonic saline neb for airway clearance, etc. I take my Synthroid at bedtime to separate it from my PPI. I would return to Suburban in a heartbeat & rvw med list w/ordering physician more carefully.
Best hospital I've been to, honestly. Amazing nurses and quick service, plus very attentive. Honestly the only hospital I've ever wanted to go back to in an emergency.
They are a team of idiots in the Emergency Room at this hospital. I was there due to passing out. They did MRI, MRA, EEG, Blood test.... and more procedures only to tell me that I may have had a seizure WHICH I DID NOT.… I was only extremely low on vitamin B12 which caused all sort of fatigue, passing out, etc. as it turned out, which someone else at another facility diagnosed correctly. Emergency room doctor Rebecca Kaufman, was a total idiotic total nerve who does not belong to this profession. Very sad place!!
Visited ER for severe pain. Was greeted from every single staff member from entry to exit. Doctor listened to all my concerns. It was overall a good experience while I was going through such a hard time.
I had a chance to stay at this hospital due to a major surgical procedure. This Johns Hopkins affiliated hospital is nicely located in Bethesda areas with great doctors and surgeons, and friendly nursing staffs. The… problem is the room environment, though all single private rooms in the wing that I stayed at, had no privacy at all. The rooms had no sound isolation and were so noisy like sleeping in the busy marketplace. I could hear every chatter from the nurse stations, people in the hallways and from rooms close by. On top of that I was constantly bordered by blood drawing staff who could not find a vein to draw blood. My arms were literally being pierced with needles that looked like a swamp of bees attacked me! After two days of torture, I just wanted to get out of that place.
I was brought to Suburban hospital on 4/27/26 via ambulance cause I could no longer breathe. I was immediately taken to the ER and diagnosed with full blown Pneumonia via a fungal infection. Mind you, I was misdiagnosed… by two previous health care facilities. After 2 weeks , they saved my life after going into a medically induced coma in the ICU so they could figure out the etiology of my severe illness. Four days in a coma and 7 more days recovering and I’m all good. I would be remiss without mentioning all the amazing staff involved in my exemplary care - the ICU nurses - William, Nancy and Ian. The acute care nurse Stephen and Brenda , Dr Posorske- the best infectious disease physician in the world , Dr Shrestha, the Navy Doc - I love you I forgot your name - you know who you are , the respiratory technicians who all helped me breathe better - I can go on and on ..I am crying grateful tears of joy as I type this. This is the best and most Special Hospital in the DMV. I and my family and friends will forever be indebted to Suburban Hospital for saving my life when for all intents and purposes I should’ve been dead due to the severity and fungal form of pneumonia which didn’t respond to the typical antibiotics given to pneumonia patients. Mine was due to a rare fungus infection which responded to the anti fungal Voriconazole - any other hospital would’ve given up on me but no not Suburban hospital - Dr Posorske who ordered a biopsy based on a hunch of hers and lo and behold her hunch was correct and my WBCs that were at 40k began to quickly decrease and I regained my ability to breathe and ultimately my life within 48 hours . Thank you Suburban Hospital and God bless Suburban Hospital and all its staff. So in conclusion , in my opinion the best hospital in our area and frankly in the country is Suburban Hospital- please go or take your loved ones here you will be thrilled.
I was admitted in 2023 with urinary infections symptoms. The admissions/ER part was nothing to write home about and I was discharged after 12h with a clean TC scan and antibiotics. I really appreciated how they… contacted my American friend (as I was visiting I did not have a US number) to let her know how my tests were showing a sepsis and urging me to go back to the hospital. After another night in ER, I was finally admitted into a room and the service there was impeccable: enough room and comfort for my partner to stay with me, excellent food, high-energy, professional nurses and doctors willing to answer any question during my 3-days stay.
Worst hospital that I have ever been to. The doctors are extremely disrespectful and literally talk about you right in front of your face. Very unprofessional
good
Cruel and Dangerous Neglect - Left My Elderly Mother in Severe Agony for Hours. I am deeply shocked and appalled by the severe decline in quality and outright negligence at Suburban Hospital. My recent experience with… my 86 yr old mother showed that this facility cannot be trusted with patient safety or even basic human compassion. Families should never leave an elderly relative unattended here. My mother, who has AFib and a MitraClip, was kept overnight. After receiving heavy IV diuretics, her potassium dropped to a dangerous 3.5, triggering violent, excruciating muscle spasms that locked her calves and feet. She suffered through this alone all night because staff ignored her room’s call button. The next morning, when I called her phone, she was screaming and crying in pain, begging me for help. I had never heard my mother sound like that in my life. It was horrifying, and I was terrified that the shock of the pain could trigger a heart attack. I immediately called the hospital floor, but they placed me on a twenty minute hold while she continued screaming on the other line. In desperation, I called the hospital’s main switchboard and told the operator I believed she was having a heart attack. Only then did a nurse finally enter her room because the main office radioed an emergency. Even after the crisis was obvious, the negligence continued. My mother was told the doctor was in a meeting and would not be available for several hours to prescribe the potassium she urgently needed. Based on everything I had already witnessed, I knew in my gut they would delay her treatment again. In fear for her safety, I drove an hour to her home, retrieved her prescribed potassium supplements, and brought them back to the hospital myself. Between the untreated night, the hospital’s delays, and my emergency drive, my mother remained in excruciating pain for another three to four hours until the potassium finally absorbed and her muscles relaxed. She passed out from sheer physical exhaustion the moment her body released. The complete lack of care and the administrative failure to treat a screaming patient forced me to demand her discharge, and I immediately took her to another hospital. Suburban Hospital cannot be trusted to protect vulnerable seniors.
Everyone is so GREAT here. Excellent customer service and so caring. Excellent nurse and doctors.
My mom Adrienne went to icu Rachelle night nurse took great care of my mother the other night nurse gave my mom cpr brought my mom back in 20 seconds. they both checked on her every 5 mins their entire shift. shelby and… Oscar both took amazing care care of my mother I never seen people give better care to anyone in my life. I will remember these people for the rest my life. They saved my mothers life any other hospital I couldn’t see my mother making it. Joana and lucia both took great care of my mother too Joana is on top of everything and lucia watched over my mother her entire shift giving her 1 on 1 care to fill her every need. If I had a million dollars I’d give it to all the staff here. The people here truly care for the patients you can see it. I couldn’t be more thankful no words could show how thankful I am to the staff here.
Terrible experience! The staff lying! Had open heart surgery!! If somebody wants to call me I can explain how I was treated! Especially the male nurse who lied nevermind I can talk to the wall! 😵💫🤯 Feel free to call… me!! Thank you!!!!
The staff and everyone at Suburban Hospital were very kind and helpful. My son received excellent care. I am very grateful to everyone who works at this hospital. God bless them.
🫡Happy Independence Day .❤️11/08/2025, I went to the emergency room again because of a severe headache. I want to give the doctors and nurses a big thumbs up 👍. The doctors and nurses here are very attentive to changes… in patients' conditions and how to manage symptoms! Conversely, I can attest to a patient who spoke rudely to the doctors and nurses. All I heard were doctors and nurses responding to patients with great patience and politeness. 🙏 Thank you for your hard work. 🇺🇸Why do I love this hospital so much? Because this hospital: has a higher percentage of kind doctors, nurses, and paramedics who actually help patients! 🙏please We all share the real experience together, we all firmly support the medical management department to dismiss bad employees! ❤️ I often dream of doctors and nurses who care about me like family. Since I am alone in the United States, this is also my first hospital stay, and if it were not for your treatment, I would have died. ‼️Please trust me ‼️4800 The service in the inpatient area and emergency room is excellent 👏 please ask the people in charge of this large hospital to insist on a questionnaire for every patient because you are one of the best in the area. If bad service equals good service, then it's not fair to good employees. From what I have experienced, most people are happy with the hospital service, but some staff will lie and abuse patients hahaha. 🫡To the doctors, nurses, and staff of the 🙏4800 resident area. ㊗️ and to all the patients I know who are being treated in section 4800, have a great day!
I can't always get an ambulance to take me there take you to the closest hospital.see you faster 1986 that was the only took me to I got hit by a truck. I was 60 years old now I'm 90 was there for 5 days. I was there… about two more times. For what I saw it serves people with higher income by just the patience nationality I saw. It was the only trauma hospital.
Tonight is my first night on 2 east and I want to give a big shout out to Cheryl ( nurse and Diane ( pca) praying the care from the day shift is as great as these two have been they deserve recognition for their work… 🙏thank you ladies Valerie HARN
I had to go to ER unexpectedly and the staff at Suburban made it a tremendous experience under the circumstances. They did a phenomenal job logistically. I was in and out with a treatment path in 2.5 hours. The team was… tight knit and consistent with their communication. Very impressed. Couldn’t be more blessed to have Suburban in my backyard.
dear crew" I was at the emergency room for aggressive condition-which the hospital and the entire crew was just amazing'' and working under Extreme pressure, not too mention Dr Templeman was my docter, answered my… concerns and came too the Rescue!! I Was At The Emergency Room For Painful-Aggressive Condition! Next, I Was greeted by The Triage Nurse And Also Took My Information And She Was Excellent! Next, I Met Dr Wyckoff Explained My Condition And She Came to The Rescue And Was Outstanding! Next, Vince Who Works With The Docter's Was Excellent! Next, The Entire Crew Here is Impressive!
They have taken excellent care of me for four days now. I’ve been suffering from a fever, a stomach bug, migraines, and a stomach virus. They are great providers and nurses. They are also ready to provide a sign… language interpreter for my accessibility needs. I trust this hospital.
Our experience at Suburban Hospital was excellent. We arrived at the ER at 3am. Processing took time since my husband wasn’t in their system. There were comfortable chairs in the waiting room, and we were checked on… frequently. By 4am my husband was in an examining room. Again nurses made sure we were comfortable and examined my husband’s hand which was infected. He was Xrayed. At 5:30 am the ER doctor examined him, and explained he was to be admitted for 2 to 4 days to administer IV antibiotics, which were started immediately. There was a several hour wait for a room, which was unavoidable. Once there, his treatment continued, and he was released after 48 hours. At all times my husband, who has Alzheimer’s, and I as his wife and caretaker, were treated with respect and caring. I honestly had no complaints about any aspect of care. We had a traumatic ER experience at a different hospital a couple of years ago, and were really pleased with the very different and positive experience at Suburban Hospital.
Maria is a fantastic nurse in the emergency dept.
The emergency room was clean and quiet when we arrived. We were taken back quickly and assessed. Tests, etc moved along but upon discharge my husband was given a medication that was a duplicate of what he had already… taken at home. He realized and was then told "good catch...don't take it." He was also supposed to be given a medical device to take home and was not given it. We didn't realize until we were home. We won't return because of these issues.
ER staff have been particularly cruel ignoring my mom. We’ve been here for almost 12 hours. They’ve left her in dirty diapers for literally hours. She was supposed to have medication at 8 pm. It’s 11:46 pm, and my mom… is still waiting.
Not sure why the low ratings. Layout is easy to figure out, convenient location, and excellent staff Really couldn’t be more proud of the visit
