Sweeten Creek Mental Health/Wellness – Asheville Reviews
Patient reviews of Sweeten Creek Mental Health/Wellness cover ground that official records leave out, from the admissions call to aftercare planning. Read them in this section alongside reviews gathered from around the web.
I feel like the reviews don’t reflect that this is a mental institution after all…. it’s not suppose to be a vacation. I recently went here and I was treated with respect and transparency. The staff was amazing the… whole time! Overall it wasn’t a good experience, but it’s exactly what I needed to get better.
This place absolutely sucks dont recomend only one staff member i liked and thats kayla
I visited my niece here, very nice people from the minute we went in. Anytime employees are cutting up and laughing with visitors, it's a real good sign. Going through the facility, I noticed how bright and clean,… beautiful pictures on the walls of nature. A horticulture area outside with raised beds. I definitely want to learn more about that when I go back. The area my niece is in was comfortable, a big table for doing art work and word puzzels, very laid back, couches, chairs a big tv. Nurses station right there for supervision. Private room for family visiting. I slept much better last night after visiting her and seeing for myself.
I was absolutely floored by the complete lack of professionalism, interpersonal skills, care and heart that one of my husbands doctors (Dr Curry) had during his extremely brief 5 day stay in patient at Sweeten Creek… mental hospital. She was extremely rude, absolutely unprofessional, cursed under her breathe while speaking to me on multiple occasions, insulted me outright claiming I was "manipulative", appeared to have extreme biases surrounding my husband and his story and condition, and overall a horrendous doctor. I honestly thought I was speaking to someone's angry teenager with a bad attitude posing as a doctor. I'm still shook and will be reporting her to the medical board. This was all during a conversation I attempted to have regarding next steps for my husband's psychiatric care once discharged. She also discharged my husband with zero plan in place for his next steps in care and treatment and zero regard for my worries and concerns about his safety and well being. He went from a jail cell to 5 days of inpatient at sweeten creek and is now home, completely on his own, with no next steps on how to continue his care. He said being at Sweeten Creek was a nightmare that he's glad is over at least. And I'm shocked to my core by the way in which an alleged doctor spoke to me for 30 minutes when all I was asking for was information on how to best support my husband with his mental health moving forward. AVOID this place at ALL COSTS
Do not take your loved one here. My partner has been stuck in psychosis for months and openly admitted to telling them what they want to hear and even threatened on the phone minutes before talking to his doctor of… wanting to kill anyone that thinks they are helping him once he’s out, and his doctor said well he’s doing everything he needs to do right in here and I can’t hold him. Released as stable!!!!! Wanted me to come and get him!
Not the best place to go for long periods of time, as intended for stays of less to a month. This place doesn't change behavior, all it does is allows you to learn skills to get through life and hard moments, as well as… dealing with anger.
DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE…… this is an awful place. My daughter was in crisis and all they wanted to do was medicate her with the same medication that she’s claiming to have an addiction to! The nurses and doctors… are negligent when I bucked them on certain medications for my child and I repeat CHILD they called DSS on me and was trying to discharge my daughter home when she is stating she’s not ready and I wasn’t ready for her to come home. I’m a nurse myself so I know quite a bit about taking care of someone and this place doesn’t give a shit about anybody. It’s really sad. I hate DSS and all of that did was fuel the fire and make things worse but they don’t care they just wanna turn the next bed that’s Mission Hospital for you. You should see some of my patients that come from this place with wounds that are god-awful. They even send me people who have been sitting waiting for discharge for hours. They haven’t had meds or their dinner. And they transport people at all hours of the night and all kinds of weather. It’s ridiculous.I wouldn’t recommend mission hospital for my dog. I wouldn’t even send my ex-husband there and I can’t stand him and all their little comments are the same. They don’t care they just don’t want us to put it on the Internet.
I was hospitalized here during one of the hardest periods of my life. This was like 2 years ago, but there are staff members I still remember clearly because of the impact they had on me: Dawn, Rachel, Mike, Stephanie,… Robby, Lauren, and McKenzie. They treated me like a human being, not a problem. They helped me feel less alone and gave me moments of hope when I didn’t have much. That matters more than people realize. There were many others who helped that I wish I remembered by name, and I’m grateful to them too. That said, I want to be honest — not all staff were good. Some didn’t listen, didn’t believe me, or made assumptions that felt unfair and harmful. That part of the experience was frustrating.
This place changed my life and I will continue to pray for everyone working there as well as everyone that is getting the help they need. Thank you all so much
Staff was great on the peds b unit Sonny Sam and all the staff were great I wanna give a big shout out to Dr Bennett for all of his help to get my mental health under control I recommend this place
If you have a teen in crisis, this is NOT the place to go. I'd give it negative stars if I could. There was 1 doctor who was helpful, but the other is a nightmare to deal with. I will never back down when advocating for… my child, and Dr Nylund was not willing to listen at all. She issued discharge when my son was still having behaviors that landed him there to begin with. Her actions put my son, and the rest of my family, in danger. There's NO excuse for that level of negligence. My son's CCA states he needs PRTF level of care, and she still discharged before we could find placement that would accept an aggressive child with Autism. Also, the counselor we had was extremely unprofessional and rude. Avoid this place if at all possible.
Left my mom who has schizophrenia outside in the courtyard to cook in the sun while they forgot about her inside. Staff don't even know who's enrolled. She had 2nd degree burns. She didn't know where she was or who she… was. She went there for the people at mission to make sure they could care for her when she couldn't do it herself, and she was left for presumably hours to BAKE. IN. THE. SUN. Mission has to do better. Slapping a basketball court and cafeteria on top of the same old staff who isn't getting paid enough to even care is not working. This was a year and a half ago but I'm still fuming.
This facility doesn't care about your personal recovery, its abunch of people with records who never really got rid of there lackadaisical functions. I voluntary went to thos place to recieve help and the whole time I… was th free re I was harassed, when I asked for proof or paperwork they couldn't provide it. I looked them to search me, drug screen me and question me several times to there being no results for them. Then when I went to sit on a swinging seat om a porch of the river house that hasn't been serviced or worked on in decades, it flipped over me as I hit the floor then nocked me out. When I I formed them of this I was told either go to hospital or leave facility. So I went and all screens come back they said they think I should leave to avoid legal problems..... this facility is very unprofessional most staff just come for a check and leave my sobriety means nothing to them
DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! If I could give it zero stars I would. They are trying to discharge my dad when it is not safe for him to come home. We’re fighting the discharge with Medicare and we’ve won the first… appeal. Now we are getting an attorney. The doctors are horrible are we are suing for medical malpractice, pain and suffering. I repeat: DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! Go somewhere else. Update: we filed a SECOND appeal with Medicare against Sweeten Creek and won again! To Mission Health/Sweeten Creek: my mother called that number last Thursday, left a message and no one has called us back. Shocker. 2nd update: my Dad died June 29.
My husband was a patient here, the doctors and staff were great, I would recommend it to anyone they care about there patient's and there wellbeing. The doctors are in contact with the family about treatment which means… so much, you don't feel left out about the treatment of your loved ones care.
I had a family member who was placed there and they received excellent care from the staff and doctors. He was treated with care and respect. The staff communicated well with the family and kept us informed of what was… best for my family member.
I had a family member receive excellent care at this facility. Communication with nurses and the psychiatrists was excellent. All of our questions were answered in a timely manner. Staff took the time to meet with… myself and family to come up with a good safety plan for discharge. They helped to set us up for the best possible outcome.
I got called stupid by a nurse in a hot pink thong cause i missed a volleyball.
They’ve made my partner worse and won’t listen to him saying the isolation is making him go insane. They keep pushing the release date back by a day. Originally it was Tuesday. On Tuesday they told us Wednesday and… today I’m told Thursday. There keeping people there for money and until they snap due to being under funded. Most of the staff is friendly but they’re hurting a lot of people around them.
Very disappointed. Terrible communication and service. If you or a loved one is recommended (or made) to go, do everything possible to get out of it and get somewhere you can get real help and therapy. Especially if… you’re a parent of a young “adult “ . You will get nothing but the bill.
Staff on North unit was wonderful caring and would see to all your needs. Dr Holloway was the same. The cafeteria food was excellent. The only complaint, is that my phone got messed up behind the nurses station the… problem was supposed to be resolved and I was supposed to be reimbursed for my phone I have been waiting since January I have not yet to received any payment nor have I heard from anyone so North unit has my phone number and I would really really appreciate somebody reaching out to me to let me know what's going on thank you.
Freedomen good doctor
Some REALLY kind and caring people working there. They want what’s best for you, even if that’s not always the way it seems during a hard mental health crisis
Extremely kind & caring staff, more then you’d expect them to be. My favorites were nurse Kathy, she helped me through a meltdown and was so incredibly nice, & the techs Callie & Quinton, they were the most… outstandingly patient and really went out of their ways to help us. Even the cafeteria staff were great and went out of their way to help me when I was having problems eating the food. A much better experience here then the one other place I went to a few years ago. It’s really the staff who make it as great as it is.
Sweeten Creek has been there when I needed them and they have always supported me in any of my endeavors. Is there a team of staff is dedicated to helping you right that which is wrong in your life. They saved my life… twice and I have eternity to be thankful to them for it exclamation point these guys are awesome trust in the process!
My sister is in here and is getting released when she is still having delusions and she is pregnant and relapsed and they know all this and are saying she is fine to go home tomorrow I'm not sure why anyone especially a… doctor could look at her and say she is safe to go home but apparently they think having delusions is an okay thing
I Was There For Almost 2 Weeks. I Kinda Wish I Would've Stayed Just A Little Longer!
