UAB Medical West – Bessemer

I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding my recent experiences at your facility. During a visit in January, I suffered the theft of my wallet and jewelry while under your care; unfortunately, this matter… remains unresolved, and I have received no compensation. When I returned this September for the same medical issue, I was unexpectedly charged a $300 co-pay despite having active insurance coverage. Furthermore, the administrative process was inefficient, resulting in a four-hour wait for triage due to system failures. Upon finally seeing a physician, I felt the clinical evaluation was dismissive, as I was discharged with only a prescription despite the severity of my condition. The lack of professional accountability and the focus on financial transactions over patient well-being are deeply concerning. I hope you will address these systemic failures to ensure other patients do not encounter similar neglect and administrative incompetence.

Great experience for a medical procedure. Can not say enough about all medical staff involved. Very professional and courteous.Very nice facility also, top notch. Highly recommend Dr. Prime and all the UAB professionals… at UAB West.

They suckkkkkkk !!!!!! How yall build a new hospital yet the emergency room wait time is still the same, slow as hell. My husband was in pain all day and we get to the emergency room just for us to wait for over a hour… and still not be seen. They lazy and don’t wanna work. Why are we calling people back 1 at a time like it’s only 1 doctor back there ? Like how is the the only emergency room in Bessemer/Mccalla ? They need new people ASAP !

I don’t remember all the people who interacted with me for my procedure, but Scotty and Joe and Robin and all the RN’s in the operating room were top notch. Dr. Chen was very professional. I can only tell you how… impressed my wife and I were with the staff at UAB West. Everyone, from the greeters to other staff were most cordial and helpful. A great experience for us. Thank you.

Judgemental, rushed, and biased care experience in the ER. Please train your staff on how to provide culturally competent care.

This is the best new facility! I took my Dad to get a heart cath. test and the nurses were fantastic! Specifically, Frances and Scott! Both are RN’s on the second floor. They were great! If you have to go to the… hospital, ask to go to this one if you can!

I only write reviews when I’m really wowed by a person or place. I was in UAB Med West for a few heart procedures in the Cath Lab. Everyone working there was friendly, upbeat, and seemed confident & competent in their… work. Nevertheless I feel lucky with RN Craig who assisted with my procedures. Craig made me feel confident and relaxed from the start. We talked as he set up the equipment; his competence was so evident! I enjoyed the brief time talking with him even under such circumstances. He is awesome with people!

Everyone was wonderful. Made me comfortable, gave complete explanations, and were extrmely caring. Joe is a fantastic personable nurse. I will definitely recommend UAB West cath lab to others.

I had the best care from my nurses Joe, Scott, Craig, Katherine, Nathan and Robin. They were very kind and caring. Making my stay very pleasant.

Best service I have ever had. All were very helpful and knowledgeable.

Joe and Scott were excellent nurses took really good care of my husband Brenton Mccurry. Would recommend this hospital and staff . Thank you very much for your care.

My wife’s been to the ER six times and they still let her go home today with no diagnosis no explanation what’s going on in no fix for her symptoms or whatever’s going on with her do not recommend

Had surgery & an overnight stay & I must say from beginning to end, was a very pleasant experience. All staff extremely nice, facilities clean, room was spacious & food was good. No complaints at all.

Typically it’s my secondary when I can’t immediately get to my doctors at Grandview. Recommended my friend here whom is from NY; still currently sitting in the waiting area with severe chest pain from high bp and… diabetes.

The wifi is awful! I can't even get Fox News!

DO NOT BOTHER going here or the one in Hoover! I had to deal with them for at least 5 MONTHS because they do not know how to direct people to the right place for financial assistance. Then they sent my bills to… collections after giving me a run around with no proper answers. We are half way into 2026 and they asked for a copy of our 2025 tax returns and determined that income being relevant to our current situation. The bill is $731 and that is not including the Physican bill nor the x-ray bill. In what world does that make any sense??? No real income since January and they consider this ideal?

I was impressed by the by the professional / caring staff at the intake area. I was greeted, completed an intake form and promptly taken to a room after answering only a few questions.

Nurse are horrible. U have to clean ur room yourself and everytime you order food it's always wrong worst care i have ever had at hospital

Emergency room treated my 3 year old like a prince, very grateful to the nurses and doctors for their care and helpfulness from drawing bloods to his CT scan results. Thank you UAB Medical West team!

I would travel again to UAB West from Tuscaloosa anytime. We were there last night(8-3-26) and the way they immediately took care of my son was amazing. From the security men, the front desk young lady, the triage… nurse, and the main nurses and doctor who came in his room to take care of him… absolutely amazing. I give them 10000/10! Continue to put your patients’ care first UAB West staff. Job well done! God bless the each of you!

Maygan has been amazing. She has done an amazing job. The best RN, we have had. Hands down!

the service is very slow for an emergency.. i waited 4 hours just for an xtray…the service is very slow and bad!!!!
