Treatment Services at University of New Mexico Hospital

Hospital inpatient care and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated in the same building rather than split across providers. Ask what happens at the end of the program as well as the beginning, since that is where plans usually thin out. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

My wife sat in this hospital ER room lobby for 4 days. 3 days to get admitted and once admitted continued to sit in the lobby so they can then do a spinal tap which in turn caused excruciating back pain to her that went… on for months. When talking to the RN's and Dr's she was only told a spinal tap wouldn't hurt. Come to find out they caused her to acquire a pocket with fluid in her back beside her spine. Their method of correcting their mistake is to say someone will come with information soon. I've never seen a "great and only trauma center in NM" work so slow and lack of proper care. My wife is scared of returning here due to the issues she's had. This place needs to get their staff from standing, talking, or even showing unrelated photos to each other when on the clock. Then to stand and here a vitals nurse get upset with Admin who just stand at the reception desk talking about unrelated crap. Horrible experience and now I know why I seen people just leaving with the AMA's (against medical advice)

I’ve never been there and he has never been there, but they stitched him up and did a beautiful job and completely worked up his health condition. Multiple doctors saw him a plastic surgeon stitched him a beautifully a… resident doctor. It’s a crazy waiting room full of very strange people, but they were kind and took care of us. Highly recommend.

Got here Sunday night at 8pm we are still here at 6:16 am Monday morning and still waiting, these people take to long, they don’t respect anything at all, haven’t even had a room been in the lobby the entire time, it… took 4 hours just to get me checked and it still an extra 4 hours for results. Don’t come here if you wanna get checked and leave Lovelace is where we wanted to go but ambulance said here don’t listen to ambulance go to your designated hospital don’t come to unm main hospital. I will give an update. Update we left at 7am was very upset with that place had no food in our stomachs, I felt bad for the guy in front of us he was tired and he didn’t hear anyone calling him. They discharged him without him knowing I’m sure he was there longer.

I was taken to UNM ER after an accident about a month ago. A lady ran a red light off the I-40 Frontage Rd & 6th Street and totaled our car. They have a lot of fast drivers, drunk drivers and inattentive drivers here in… ABQ so be careful. Thats another story. Google stats on drivers and fatalities in ABQ and while you are there google ABQ cart thefts. Positives: I was pretty shook after the accident and although nothing was broken they did a total evaluation on me. The ER was really B.U.S.Y.!.. being Memorial Day weekend...but despite this they were very attentive. Besides some random trails of blood on the floor from some other patient(which was quickly cleaned up)the place was clean and organized. For example visitors are escorted from the waiting lounge by a hospital employee every 15 minutes. They answered call lights promptly. There was a TV in the room. They monitored my vitals the whole time I was there. The downside is that you are tethered to the medical bedside monitor and they want you to stay put...for as long as it takes to get to see a doctor. Each Medical professional explained thoroughly what they were going to do before they did it. I was grateful for their high level of care and expertise especially for an ER. I did have to wait about 6 hours to see a Doctor get some XRays and be formally released after a total of 7 hours so I was pretty hungry. The restaurant had closed. All I had was a smoothie for breakfast as we were on our way to lunch before the accident. Luckily I had a really good nurse and PA. They brought me food which was really nice of them and honestly it wasn't too bad. A turkey sandwich, some coleslaw, baked chips, fruit and cookies. The negatives beside the long wait which is not unusual for a busy ER: I do remember being so cold in my little room in the Triage. Not a good thing if you are already shaking with teeth chattering and chills from shock and aching all over from a MVC. I wanted to sit up in the bed but it kept falling down to where I would be laying flat again in a matter of minutes. The cervical collar was very uncomfortable in a laying down position especially when your neck hurts. I cant say I want to ever see the inside of an ER again but everyone was very professional, friendly and I felt I was in good hands. UPDATE: I had to downgrade the stars to a 4. I have been waiting for my itemized final bill since last May. They lost the check the insurance company sent directly to them although it was cashed by them. So unfortunately my bill still reflects the higher amount without the insurance payment subtracted. I spoke with the same girl in billing about a dozen times. She still doesn't understand or perhaps she is unable to follow through to send me the much needed itemized bill minus the payment. in addition, I was planning to go through their system to see a surgeon but they had me on the phone for about an hour and a half sending me to different departments that didn't know whether or not I needed XRays first or needed to have a referral. I would say please dont waste too much time going here unless you have to. There are other hospitals and clinic systems in ABQ.

Desiree receptionist in labor and delivery is a ray of sunshine at 3am in the morning. I forgot about how true customer service and bed side manners matters in times like these. She heard my concerns and made a… justified decision to put a grandma like me in perfect peace. She quench my thirst with a tall cup of water. Her care and observation for me was on point. I'm not even the patient. With that being said, I know my daughter and grandson is in the right hands. Thank you Desiree for being who you are!❤️

If you or your loved one is ever here for any length of time on the main hospital side, make sure you get a patient advocate immediately. Make sure someone is able to sit with them all day long. I have heard call lights… going off for more than 15 minutes at a time. The hourly rounding that is supposed to be getting done doesn't. Oh and not to mention they may intubate you, wake you up, and then make you wait for 2 hours to get the tube out. They also do nothing to help your loved one eat or drink. They may get you to work with physical therapy once or twice and then assume you walk on your own because apparently taking a few assisted steps means you are now independent. Then act shocked when you say you haven't been up and moving on your own. Then tell you well we better get you in to an inpatient rehab center here for an additional three week period. Oh it might be important to understand we are from Colorado not New Mexico. So yes it is a big deal for me to stay here another 3 weeks. Overall, find somewhere else to go if you need any length of stay.

My son had a neurological event. He was taken by ambulance to the new pavillion Emergency Room. WHAT A JOKE. The nurses were absolutely rude to a disgusting level. The BRAND NEW EMERGENCY ROOM waiting area reeked of… urine and fentanyl. I watched a woman in a wheelchair have a seizure TWICE and NO ONE responded. I walked in and out twice without security wanding me. I reached out to patient advocates and was told I would be receiving a phone call...48 hours later still nothing.

This is nothing but a circus. My husband was taken on Sunday night because he had a vein/blood vessel erupt from a surgery he had on his leg 2 weeks ago. The paramedics recommended we go there because of the trauma… center and the urgency for the amount of blood he had lost. The attended to him right away and sutured the problem. He was given on pain medication at 330 a.m. for this procedure. I arrived shortly after and I was told he couldn't have visitors in the trauma center. That's fine I understand that. After shift change I was finally able to see him. I couldn't believe the nasty conditions he was left in. He stated the room was like that when he arrived after his surgery. It had blood all over the floor used materials all over the place. It looked like a crime scene. We were moved to another room in the er where it wasn't much cleaner. They had the podiatrist on call come to look at his wound. It was decided he would not need any other surgerys. This was at 930 am. We asked repeatedly for some pain medication to help ease his discomfort. His nurse has to request it. Ok fine . He came back 2 hours later no pain medication and said he had the release papers. Ummmm what ? Not one doctor ever came by to check on him. Just the on call podiatrist. My husband is wheelchair bound and cannot move well. We asked for a wheelchair to take him to the vehicle they brought one but offered no assistance in transferring him to it. I had heard some good and bad things about unm hospital. Well this was absolutely horrendous. The waiting room full of people. The unhoused people outside doing their usual thing was unsettling. I will never send my husband or anyone else here. The nurse he had on Monday morning and the podiatrist wete the only nice people I encountered. The others were rude as hell. We are people also and we have feelings. Being nice to people doesn't hurt. Please think twice before you consider this hospital. I know unm hospital won't read this review but I don't care because patients should know what happens here. Rethink the choices.

I know it is popular to hate on UNM and I do know that they are understaffed and overwhelmed at times, but when it comes to the specialists, they are second to none in Albuquerque. A rheumatologist and a pulmonologist… basically saved my wife's life. She has also been in the ICU hospital several times and received excellent care.

Would give zero stars this place is horrible. My mom has been in this hospital for DAYS for emergency surgery and they STILL HAVEN'T EVEN DONE THE PROCEDURE! They are also neglecting her! They don't feed her or check on… her! She keeps asking them for food! And drinks! She said she's hungry! If they're not doing surgery they should at least feed her!!! And if they are going to do surgery which they cannot even say or give exact details/dates/time and she can't have certain foods let her know and communicate with her family if that's the case!!
