Via Linda Behavioral Hospital Reviews and Ratings
Before contacting Via Linda Behavioral Hospital, it can help to read how patients and their families describe the program. Their reviews are collected in this section, along with reviews from around the web.
I had a really bad experience for my wife while she was here. They advertise that they have women's program for postpartum women diagnosed with psychosis, but they were complaining that she exhibit those symptoms. The… whole reason we chose this place was so that I am aware of everything including her treatment, but there was no communication from her social worker or provider. They didn't even bother to connect with her current Psychiatrist even though we provided all the details to them before she was admitted. After 3 days one of the nurse was able to give me her updates and mentioned she's doing ok and taking her meds etc. The next day, her discharge planner called me to say that she's being petitioned to be involuntary admission. They were just informing me when she is already petitioned and that was the second petition they tried, the first one was rejected. They did all that while keeping me in dark about her what was happening. Had they informed me all of these before I would have tried to bring her home and care for her at home and follow up with her psychiatrist for her meds which she was taking regularly every day. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Rose is the best patient advocate in this hospital and she does a lot for you
I’ve been here 4 times there is always elder abuse, lack of treatment for physical issues, threats if someone puts in an ama, if we complained the staff retaliated, showers have bugs, most soap dispensers had no soap no… one refilled them, just general ignoring patients voicing their needs, they have patients who are detoxing off of hard drugs that they just leave in their room acting like they’re not there and when they’re throwing up on the floor they choose not to clean it up I could go on
I never thot I’d be truly happy but after leaving here i am now. And I have to thank Dr.Shah for that. He is the first doctor to actually try to help me. He listened to me , advocated for me and was actually there for… me. And I am extremely grateful. If you ever need to go inpatient I highly recommend coming here. It’s the best hospital I’ve ever been to. Thank you Dr. Shah for all your help. I truly appreciate it.
Rose the patient advocate is an amazing person she goes above and beyond for patients which is amazing she definitely deserves a thank you 🙏
As a patient who has Bipolar Disorder and Autism, I have needed Via Linda’s services several times. The caring, compassionate staff has never shamed me for this, and they are always eager and determined to provide the… best possible treatment. The nurses, techs, therapists, and doctors assist their patients in their respective fields, going above and beyond the call of duty to do so. Rose, the Patient Advocate, though exceptionally busy, is never too occupied to help with any special needs and does so swiftly and efficiently. Thank you, Via Linda Behavioral Hospital, for all you do!
Have had two experiences here and both were great. They are caring and have stuff to do throughout the day that makes the time go by faster. I would highly recommend this place .
I was in this program from October 2026 – December 2026. For the past 8 months, I have attended as alumni. Typically, with outpatient programs once you graduate, there might be a facilitated support chat–type group.… Here at Via Linda it is done differently and I have found it to be extremely useful. Once you graduate from Via Linda, You are able to come back one day a week of your choice and participate in the program just as you had before. This structure is helpful for several reasons: 1) You still have a connection to an outpatient and even an inpatient location if you should need it, 2) You still get to benefit from the actual group therapy sessions, 3) You're still in contact with the people that you were in group with before and the natural support is there. My only criticism at this point is that because they are understaffed, therapists sometimes get pulled away from the group that they're supposed to be running. This is usually to do intakes, for example. Though I understand why this happens and that it is also good for the interns tohave experience running the group, it is unfair to the patients who are there 3 to 5 days a week. If their group happens to have the lowest enrollment, then those patients are either moved to another group or the therapist is booted from the group to cover for the staff that they don't have. It has been this way probably for at least a month now so it is my belief that a different technique should be used. Since it is usually intakes that need to be covered in these situations, and there is not presently an intake specialist, perhaps intakes should be limited to a different time of day. If, and only if, it is absolutely necessary for a therapist to be used elsewhere during group time, then the role should at least be rotated among them.
This place commits atrocities and violates people's rights. They coerce people into signing things they dont know they are signing. Then hold them against their will with threats of sending them somewhere worse. They… use leading tricks to course buzz words that they can use later. Then when they get called out on it they use threats of forcible removale to shut them up. They even go to the patients and tell them to call their family and tell them to leave before they have them forcibly removed.
My stay at Via Linda was not by choice, but somehow, it became one of the best experiences of my life in the least likely place. The staff—especially everyone on 1 West—were kind, patient, compassionate, and truly… remarkable at what they do. I watched them navigate staff shortages while still showing up for us, caring for us, and sometimes saving us from ourselves. I am deeply grateful for every one of you on 1 West. The work you do matters more than you may ever realize. You do God’s work every day, and you do it with such grace, compassion, and dedication. Thank you for making an unexpected chapter of my life one I will never forget. ❤️
They are kinda rude and when you are sick they don’t let you in your room if you don’t have a room order
Had a great - helpful stay All staff very helpful, especially rose
the staff here really have heart I recommend this place if you are searching for healing. A staff member here will genuinely sit down with you and talk to you and help you get back on track, my sister died after taking… care of her for months and then my step brother committed suicide the following year. This hospital is probably the only reason i m still alive god bless you guys.
My Experience at Via Linda Behavioral Hospital I don't know if this is what a review of a behavioral hospital is supposed to sound like, but I'm going to tell it the way I feel it. Sometimes being alone feels like the… safest place I can be. I can be completely quiet, completely still, and just try to get my mind right. But there comes a point where I know being alone isn't enough anymore. That's usually when I start thinking about Via Linda. And honestly, that might sound crazy to some people. Who says they want to go back to a behavioral hospital? Me. Because I've built real connections there. Not the kind where somebody is just doing their job and checking a box. I'm talking about people I remember. People who remember me. People who made me feel like I wasn't just another patient walking through the doors. There is something about Via Linda that is hard for me to explain. I've been in a place mentally where I needed somewhere to go just to breathe, reset, and figure out what was happening inside of me. And when I think about where I'd choose to go again if I needed to heal, Via Linda Behavioral Hospital in Scottsdale is honestly the first place that comes to mind. The staff have personalities. They're real. They're full of life. Some of them are funny, some are serious, some will challenge you, and some will make you laugh when you probably didn't feel like laughing. But what stood out to me was that they cared. And when you're struggling, genuine care means everything. There were moments when it felt like I was watching miracles happen in real time. Someone would come in one way and, somehow, start leaving as someone different. A little stronger. A little more hopeful. A little more willing to keep going. I'm a person of faith, so sometimes I think about it like this: maybe God is the one who ordains the healing, but He uses people to carry it. Maybe that's what the staff at Via Linda were for me. Vessels of hope. People who showed up at a time when I didn't always know how to show up for myself. I'm not saying Via Linda magically fixes everything. It doesn't. Healing isn't that simple. There are still distractions. There are still hard days. There are still things you have to face when you walk back out those doors. But sometimes you need a place where you can stop running from yourself long enough to start finding yourself again. For me, Via Linda became that place. That's why, if I ever reach a point where I know I need to step away from everything and heal again, I already know where I'd want to be. Via Linda Behavioral Hospital in Scottsdale. Because somewhere in those halls, among the staff, the conversations, the difficult days, the laughter, and the people trying to put themselves back together, I remembered what it felt like to be alive. And for that... I'll always be grateful. Thank you, Via Linda. -Justice
My experience was horrendous! My unique situation of being from Idaho, having to cancel airline reservations and make new airpline reservations, getting a rented car back to the airport, and arranging for longer care… for my animals in my home wasn't taken into consideration when I inquired about the length of my stay. Even though I went to the hospital voluntarily it was clear that I could not leave when I wanted. Trying to get help to work out my unique situation was beyond frustrating. I was stressed out the whole time I was there. I wasn't given my regular meds until the second full day I was there which caused my blood pressure to be very high and I began to have withdrawal symptoms from missing 4 doses of my antidepressant. I left the hospital much worse off than when I arrived. The whole experience was an absolute nightmare!
Well the stay was nice but when I got home and opened up my bag I realized my meds were not in there. Apparently they had taken them to their pharmacy but upon letting them know they filled the meds that I needed right… away. They also replaced a few items I was missing from my bag. They truly care about your stay at their center it shows in their actions and how quickly they handle situations. I would highly recommend Via Linda to anyone in mental or substance needs.
Time has a way of bringing clarity. Now that several weeks have passed since my stay at Via Linda, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect without the emotions of being freshly discharged. Looking back, what stands out most… is not a particular group, conversation, or difficult day. It’s the people. Like any hospital, Via Linda is not perfect. There are areas that could be improved, and there are staff who, in my opinion, would benefit from additional training. Even so, those moments don’t define the facility. They’re outweighed by the compassion, professionalism, and genuine care shown by the vast majority of the staff. The nurses, behavioral health techs, therapists, physicians, activity therapists, and so many others all played a role in creating an environment where healing could begin. It’s rarely the result of one person. It happens because a whole team chooses, day after day, to treat people with dignity and patience. I especially want to recognize Matt. From my first call through discharge, he never made me feel like just another number. He listened, advocated for me as a veteran, and genuinely cared about my recovery. His kindness set the tone for my entire stay. One of the biggest surprises was the sense of community. Complete strangers from different backgrounds encouraged one another. That culture doesn’t happen by accident. It reflects the example set daily. Weeks later, I still use what I learned. I live with PTSD and anxiety, but now I have practical tools and hope I didn’t have before. Via Linda gave me a foundation to build on. If you’re considering treatment, I know it’s hard. Walking through those doors was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made. Looking back now, it was also one of the best. To everyone at Via Linda, thank you. You cared for me in a dark season, and that impact lasts long after discharge.
The staff Mrs. B, Zee and Yussef were really sweet and treated me with care. They made my stay better.
It has been just under three weeks since I left Via Linda, and I intentionally waited before writing this review. I wanted to see whether what I learned would actually hold up once I returned to everyday life. Life is… not magically easier. I still struggle with anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares, and learning how to be vulnerable. I certainly do not have everything figured out. But I can honestly say I feel less afraid of the journey because Ciera helped me understand where to begin. Ciera is, without question, the most impactful therapist I have ever worked with. Her education, experience, and genuine passion for helping people are evident in every process group and every conversation. She has an incredible ability to ask difficult questions without making anyone feel judged. Instead, she creates an environment where people feel safe enough to be honest with themselves, often for the first time. She helped me recognize that many things I had always viewed as random facts about myself had quietly shaped the way I saw the world and my place in it. Her process groups became the highlight of my stay. Patients constantly recommended them to every new arrival, and I found myself doing the same. One session centered entirely around music. Each of us chose a song that meant something to us, and by the end nearly everyone in the room had cried. Through thoughtful questions and gentle guidance, Ciera helped us discover why those songs mattered and what they revealed about us. She did not force emotion or manufacture breakthroughs. She simply created a space where healing happened naturally. I will never forget sitting beside another veteran, both of us crying together. Before coming to Via Linda, I never would have believed I was capable of that kind of vulnerability. The true measure of a therapist is not only what happens inside the therapy room. It is what happens after the patient leaves it. Three weeks later, I can already see the impact of Ciera’s work throughout my life. She encouraged me to create a structured daily check in with my wife, and after refining it together, it has become one of the healthiest habits in our marriage. That idea eventually grew into check ins we now use as parents to better understand and connect with our daughter, who has high functioning autism. I genuinely believe we are stronger as a family because of it. I still use the Light Stream technique when I begin slipping into panic, anxiety, or anger. It does not make everything disappear, but it helps me regulate enough to move forward. Since leaving Via Linda, I have written a song about my mental health journey, started a blog to encourage others, and even tried equine therapy despite years of PTSD surrounding animals, especially horses. With medication from Dr. Wilson and changes I have made since becoming an inpatient, I am also sleeping in the same bed as my wife again after years of sleeping on the couch because of PTSD related nightmares. The nightmares have not disappeared, but they no longer control my nights the way they once did. Healing hurts sometimes because I am finally allowing myself to feel what I spent years trying to avoid. Oddly enough, that feels like progress. I still have a long road ahead, but I no longer feel like I am walking it alone. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for Ciera. Through both her words and her example, God used her to help me discover a purpose beyond my career, beyond my titles, and beyond simply surviving. She did not walk the journey for me, but she showed me where it began. That has changed my marriage, my parenting, my faith, and the way I see myself. I will always be grateful.
The place saved my life. It was a great place to detox and get my mental health in order and my meds. My health and recovery is my own business and I’d like everyone to respect that but publicly this place is an amazing… place to take your loved ones and get the help they need that’s all I can really say;)
I honestly can’t recommend Via Linda Behavioral Hospital enough. After experiencing other behavioral health facilities, especially in some of the rougher parts of San Antonio, TX, this place honestly felt like a dream… in comparison. From the moment I got there, I felt like I was treated like a human being instead of just another patient. The staff truly cares, and you can feel that. A huge thank you to the Patient Advocate because you went above and beyond to actually advocate for us, and when you’re in one of the hardest seasons of your life, that kind of support is truly a Godsend. No place is ever going to be 110% perfect, but I can confidently say this place is 100% recommendable. I would genuinely tell anyone who’s struggling and needs help to come here—even if they have to travel. Thank you to every single member of the Via Linda staff for your kindness, your patience, and for helping people when they need it most. God bless all of you. ❤️
I was not eager to participate in IOT but gained a great deal from the experience and will continue to participate as an alumni…
It is very difficult to be in a hospital like this. It is an institution with lots and lots of rules. But most of the staff I interacted with were very competent and professional and helpful for my situation. There are… negatives, many listed in other reviews. But this place deserves compliments as well. Techs in our unit were excellent, and my therapist was so good I wish I could see her outside the hospital as my therapist. The receptionist at the front desk needs help. She is completely overwhelmed with activities and therefore does not give good service to those who need receptionist assistance.
