Wave of Clearwater – Clearwater Reviews and Ratings
Families searching for treatment in Clearwater often start with reviews. If you were a patient at Wave of Clearwater, or supported one, sharing how it went gives them something real to go on.
I spent 47 days at The Wave International, and my experience was extremely mixed. I genuinely learned a lot and met some incredible people, but I also witnessed and experienced things that I believe need serious… attention. On my first day, I had to leave yoga after 20 minutes because I had undergone emergency back surgery only three weeks earlier. When I explained this to tech Kya, she responded, “Well, I’ve had back surgery and I still do yoga.” I found this dismissive and lacking compassion. On my third day, I accidentally bumped into tech Sophia, who turned around and said, “Whoa, big Allysun.” Having been bullied about my size for most of my life, this was extremely triggering. When I addressed it, I was told she “didn’t mean anything by it” and that calling people “big” was part of her culture. Regardless of intent, I believe mental health staff should be mindful of comments about residents’ bodies. There was also a Walmart outing where Kya and Sophia left the residents in the Ubers and drove away in Kya’s personal vehicle, despite staff being expected to accompany residents for safety. I later learned Kya is the director’s daughter and Sophia is Kya’s childhood best friend. I cannot say whether that affected anything, but it certainly creates the appearance of favoritism/conflict of interest. Food safety was another major concern. Dinner was sometimes left sitting at room temperature for 5–6 hours before being refrigerated as leftovers, including chicken, which residents were then allowed to eat. Tech Amy also frequently escalated minor issues rather than addressing them directly. For example, after I accidentally left cigarette butts outside, she reported it to my therapist rather than simply asking me to pick them up. I was also discharged after a resident reported that I had sexually harassed her by smacking her butt. I understand now that I should not have made physical contact without explicit consent, regardless of how comfortable I believed our relationship was, and I took accountability and apologized. I also received donations from residents through my GoFundMe before learning that exchanging money between residents was prohibited. Once I learned the rule, I respected it. However, I was ultimately discharged and felt I received little meaningful aftercare planning, referrals, or guidance for continuing treatment. I also found it concerning that there were no working security cameras in common areas. While privacy must absolutely be protected, appropriate cameras could provide an objective record of incidents and improve safety and accountability. That said, there were some truly exceptional people at The Wave. Gigi and Jen were incredibly compassionate and supportive, and I am genuinely grateful for them. The therapists—especially Tori, Nouel, Phoebe, and Emma—gave me tools and insight that I will carry with me. Raisa’s Reiki sessions and teaching about TCM and holistic approaches were also incredibly meaningful. Ultimately, The Wave gave me valuable tools and relationships, but it also left me with serious concerns about staff conduct, food safety, resident supervision, boundaries, documentation, discharge planning, security, and potential conflicts of interest. There are people there who genuinely care and do wonderful work, but I believe the program has significant areas that need improvement.
Any Owner that will only reply to 5 star reviews says a lot about the integrity of this Business.
My partner enrolled in a program at the Wave attended approximately 36 hours of the program and left and the wave is withholding a $10,000 refund. Ashlee Bryant will not return calls or emails and this facility is… anything but what it seems.
My daughter was a pt there on 2 different occasions between 4/25 and 7/25. She was admitted there for ptsd and child hood trauma. I did have high expectations. She did end up, loving her Therapist, autumn, the… relationship was very inappropriate. My daughter called her sissy and she gave her personal opinion of me, her mother, to her. Also, she went in there on one medicine, an anti-anxiety and came home on 5 to 6 different medicines. With no follow up made to see any counseling or psychiatry.Endind up trying to OD on one of those meds a few weeks later. There was a lot of money spent on the wave and actually I’m still paying for it and I don’t have one good word for it. She was also a vegan and they would provide food such as lettuce, cold tofu and green beans frequently. Just very disappointing that this is a facility that claim to help women out.
For my daughter, this place was a Godsend. It is unlike any facility you have ever come across. My daughter was terrified of seeking help due to additional trauma she had experienced in the many, many facilities she had… been in before. All the websites of other facilities in Pinellas, Hillsborough, or Pasco County looked so promising, and it took a lot for us to help her decide to go to them. Unfortunately, once she was admitted, it felt more like a lockdown unit, and it was nearly impossible to actually receive help when so much trauma was being formed on the unit itself. Trauma caused her to dissociate as a coping mechanism in the first place. For seven years, we tried so many different facilities that ultimately made her worse. We even traveled to other states seeking care. As a mother, I felt ashamed continuing to place her in these settings when she deteriorated each time. I have been a nurse for over 20 years and have worked in psychiatric care for about 20% of my career, and I could have never imagined that such a wonderful place existed. She learned so much there—and has taught me so much as well. They provided all the necessary tools to cope with everyday situations, as well as more complex challenges. They were not solely medication-focused. The teaching methods went far beyond simple handouts. Group activities were frequent and extremely useful. This is definitely not a “churn and burn” facility focused on money instead of patients. The information wasn’t just presented—it was reinforced and revisited whenever real-life situations arose. For example, when situations occurred between patients where irritation or conflict developed, staff intervened not by punishment, but by providing tools to navigate the situation. They taught patients how to express their needs appropriately, how to consider another person’s feelings, and how to communicate effectively. I really could go on and on. I am a real person and a real mom trying to navigate life. This is not a program that just anyone can enter—you are actually interviewed to ensure a good fit. It took two trips to the facility for my daughter to agree to go. Once there, she stayed for close to a month without even asking to come home early. This was such a change from the frequent calls I received from other facilities, where she begged me to help her get out—though my hands were often tied. Thank you to all of the Wave Program staff for truly caring. I also want to thank the people who created this beautiful, genuine, unique, safe, multifaceted, and truly unparalleled program. Brandi K
Very disappointed in this facility. Their concern for financial gain is disheartening. I have been repeatedly ignored for 5-6 weeks now yet they still continue to charge my credit card for services that were not… provided to me. I spent less than 24 hours at this facility and will have dropped $1,000 for nothing. $1,000 that could be going towards actually getting mental health I need/deserve. As a medical provider myself, this place is truly discouraging. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere. It’s not worth it here.
I've been here twice and both times were honestly amazing in their own ways. The sta? treat you like family. The techs are always around to check on you or just talk if you need someone. The therapists really care and… give you tools that actually work. I loved the outings, the art room and the fact that we could still have some normal things like our phones. It doesn't feel like a hospital, it feels more like a community that pushes you to get better. If you're thinking about coming here, do it. It's not perfect but it's real and it helps.
I didn't end up staying but the admissions team was awesome. They answered every question, helped me sort out travel and were just really kind. You can tell they want to help.
This place surprised me. Everyone is kind, patient and they actually listen. The vibe isn’t like a hospital at all, more like a safe space where you can breathe again. The weekend trips were the best part for me.
I came to The Wave not really sure what to expect, just hoping for some peace. It honestly turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. The staff actually care. Like genuinely care, not just doing their jobs… because they have to.The groups helped me a lot and I loved spending time in the art room and the gym. The food was decent and they even work with people who have different diets which is nice to see. It’s not perfect but it feels real and safe.
My therapist recommended this place to me when I was ready to be baker acted. I was nervous after seeing some of the most recent reviews but I decided to still go. I’ve been here for a week now and I love it here!! I… feel cared for by the nurses and techs, they're so friendly. (by cared for I mean that they actually care about me and aren’t /just/ doing their jobs) Also my therapist and psych here are so sweet and great. But it’s good to remember that the staff here are people just like you are and it won’t be 100% perfect. I like the food but I’m not a picky eater. Other clients here are hit-or-miss on the meals. But they accommodate for celiac which warms my heart because many places don’t. I’ve personally seen that they also accommodate for diabetes, vegetarian, and vegan. I love the “classes” because I learn ways to grow/heal. I also love using the art room and the gym and sauna. The other girls here are so friendly and I’m happy I got here at a time that I got to meet them! I’m sure you will get along with whoever is here for your stay too! I love that I can use my phone and my laptop so it’s not like a prison. You can order yourself food on doordash or items too! It’s almost like living in a dorm. Definitely bring ear plugs and an eye mask. Also the plushies and throw blanket are mine they don’t come with the room. And this is out of their control but currently the construction next to the facility is kinda annoying. Another thing is that we go on outings to Walmart or target or five below. Also scenic nature places like tarpon springs. I’ve decided to write this so other girls can find this place and see a more recent review that is positive because I’m so glad I came here. It’s okay to accept help. (also everyone gets one of those jeans bag on my desk in the photo for free so that's awesome)
Run as fast as you can away from here. Was here for a total of ten weeks over a 3 month period, Jan-April 2023. Just discovered this past April that the cause for my emotional distress/ anxiety were the very poisons my… trusted doctors put me on and led to a suicide attempt and forced hospitalization/ Baker Act. What do they do here? Pump you with more “meds”, and attend group therapy and private therapy with student interns….the “ nurse” was a grouchy LPN who made you feel worse with her attitude, and was always in a hurry to give you your nighttime meds- forced, actually, even if you wanted to take them later to maybe help you sleep, so she could leave early, or go outside to smoke… Saw cockroaches , termites…. Cheap Walmart linens and towels, very uncomfortable . Very cliquey. They advertise field trips but only if they have transportation—-our trip to the Dali Museum was canceled because the other Wave facility was using the bus-// so they ordered ice cream instead. And the cost- then it was on line as 37K a month which they assured me several times that insurance would cover it 100%. They lied… I could go on and on, but grateful to have survived my doctor induced hell…
Currently here I absolutely love it the techs are all amazing and truly care about your mental health and well being. I came from South Dakota all the way down for this and wish I had came sooner they truly care about… your mental health. My therapist Markia has been amazing and every single tech makes you feel welcome and like you matter which matters when you are going through mental health crisis highly would recommend love it here! I don’t usually leave reviews but the wave has been life changing for me you are not judged or made to feel bad about your mental health issues one day at a time.
Very helpful during a very hard time in my life.
I didn't end up coming here, but they (Debbie, in particular) were so helpful in answering a ZILLION questions I had and helping me get all set up to go. I was traveling and they were willing to pick me up at the… airport and everything. My prescriptions must come from a certain place and they were willing to accommodate that. They were willing to give everything I needed. While I didn't attend, the facility seemed like it was going to be great! I don't have anything negative to say about it. And they made the arrangements INCREDIBLY easy. I can't 100% recommend it having never gone, but I'd definitely say to put it on your list. They seemed incredible.
I’m so grateful for my experience at The Wave in Clearwater—it has been much better than I ever anticipated. The therapy here is truly the heart of the program, and it’s exceptional. The therapists are skilled,… compassionate, and incredibly supportive, which is why I’ve decided to extend my stay. The tech staff is equally amazing—each and every one of them goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and cared for. The senior management is actively involved, approachable, and always available if needed. They create a welcoming and safe environment where you feel almost at home. The accommodations are excellent, with private rooms, shared bathrooms, and a very clean facility overall. I highly recommend The Wave for anyone seeking a supportive, therapeutic space to focus on healing and growth. This version is polished and captures your positive experience in a way that would stand out as a thoughtful review. Let me know if you’d like to add or change anything!
I wouldn’t recommend this place. After a traumatic experience, I came here on a friend’s recommendation without much research. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right fit. Healing chakras, learning how to drink tea, or… exploring healthy eating are great additional tools, but they’re not enough for serious trauma recovery. The lack of group therapy and more personalized sessions with therapists felt like a big gap. I was fortunate to leave and find another place where I could engage in group work, speak with professionals, and do daily homework that truly helped me process my past. This place may work for some, but it’s not suitable for those needing deep, trauma-focused healing.
I had every intention of attending the inpatient program at The Wave and was working closely with Debbie, who was incredibly patient, kind, and understanding about both my needs and my concerns regarding the process.… After some thoughtful reflection, I decided to postpone, realizing that committing to 30 days of inpatient care isn't feasible for me at this time for several personal reasons. However, thanks to Debbie's exceptional support throughout this process, I am confident that I will be working with her on alternative options, such as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or perhaps Partial Hospitalization (PHP), which may better suit my current situation. And when the time is right, I will consider inpatient care again. I cannot express enough gratitude for Debbie's guidance in helping me navigate this decision. With staff like her, it's clear why The Wave has such a stellar reputation. I look forward to meeting the rest of the team soon.
I'm on my last week of the Residential portion of The Wave. This is a long review, I know, but for what The Wave has done in 3 weeks, they deserve every word. I was nervous, didn't know what to expect, or even how to… arrange my cats would be taken care of. My insurance company actually referred me based on looking them up while checking coverage. I'd been asking for over a year from my pyschiatrist and gotten no where. From the first moment I spoke with Debbie many months ago, I knew that of i could make it work she would be the one to help me. I wasn't able to get in when I wanted for various reasons, but Debbie was always there. She cared about my wellbeing more than getting a new patient. Two years after my life changed forever, The Wave, it's team, and my fellow participants from each level of the program, have again changed my life. This change was for the better. I hand never felt as good as I do now. I now have people who understand me and support me. Some will truly be friends for life. The therapist i was assigned to is perfect for me and my needs. The psychiatrist takes an interest in you as a whole, seriously considers medicine before she makes any decisions on prescribing anything. As a resident the pampering you get access to is amazing! Haircut, nails, massage.... all included. Fun outings are planned for the weekend and grocery during the week. After next week I transfer to the PHP program, you live at home, but come to the facility each day M-F 9:30-5 for the group sessions. I can't praise Debbie enough for her support throughout the process, the decision, and sometimes just the need to talk. She and everyone at The Wave have given me help and more importantly hope in knowing who I am and what I'm worth.
I am not at all ashamed to say that I have been an inpatient resident at the Wave twice. I went in March of ‘23 for PPD and PPA. I was not ready to do the hard work and I spent my time unwisely. I left the program… completed but I was angry and frustrated all the time - and that was on ME. I just completed my second stay. I emailed Kathy and Karen, who I knew from before - and within an hour I received a kind and loving email saying of course you can come back. I hope people read this and know what a special thing that happened then, because that email kept me from going through with a plan that would have devastated all of those I love. It saved my life the same as if you shocked a flatline back to life. I entered broken and so very sick and suffering. Every single person there loved me through 35 of the hardest but most healing and beautiful days of my life. The women there, the staff, are the most amazing people in this field. Unfortunately I know that from other experiences. THEY are the gold standard. THANK you and I love you, too: Karen 🫂 , Kathy 🙌🏻, Debbie, Kristin, Jodi 🌭 Ann 💫 , DOCTOR Raisa Jill, Shelby 💃🏽 , Nouel 🧘♀️ , Lorrina, Lauren, Judy, Sandy 💚 , Noelle, Tina 💙 , Jenna, Toni 👓 Tiff, Jen, Dawn, Susan, Bre, Megan 💜, Marcae, Akhila, JAYDAH!!, and I know I’m missing some - but every single one. I walked in broken and I left, whole again, with a positive and loving energy, brave enough to face anything. I am eternally grateful.
I’ve been given back my life with happiness, I was shown so much love and kindness from staff, therapists, clinical staff and nurses, i left there yesterday in tears of happiness, I’ve had over 50 plus years of abuse… and seen my brother murder and they helped me through my trauma, I can’t put into words the gratitude I have for them, my sisters whom I call them they are the TECHS are amazing and strong with their support, I’ll recommend riding the wave to anyone I know !
Horrible place. First of all im told how terrible the food has been and how often it is late, how long it takes to wait in the med line. The difference in temperatures between rooms. Some way too hot and some way too… cold, uncomfortable for the residents. Someone actually left the property and nobody knew where she was. My girl has me down as emergency contact. She was taken away in an ambulance to the emergency room with chest pains and a hard time breathing, we live 4 hours away, nobody called me to tell me she was in the hospital!! I waited 15 minutes after a 4 hour drive at the front door dying of heat and needing a restroom. Nobody let me in, thankfully someone left and I was able to get inside. Toilet didn't flush and no paper hotel in the bathroom. Knowing I was coming to get her things and see her in the hospital the luggage was not packed as she was told it would be and I sit here and wait for it extremity anxious to see my girl at the hospital. These are just some of the reasons for my disappointment in this facility. I DO NOT recommend the wave in any way
The WAVE saved my life. God bless this facility and the beautiful people who run it. I came in at rock bottom, completely debilitated by my PTSD and in desperate need of help. I kept an open heart mind which was key to… my healing. I connected with the most amazing women I’ve ever met, and my life has been forever transformed by the perspective offered to me by the fellow clients, therapists, nurses and techs. Shoutout to Patricia, Stacy, Karen, Jenna, Mae, Jericha, and Jill - I can’t thank you enough.
Before coming here I was crippled with fear. Where fear was now is curiosity and light again. The anxiety, ocd, depression, it was part of me not my entirety I learned. Every staff member and therapist had part in my… healing, even the coy fish… I am proud to have been part of this place that helped me save myself.
I am a transgender woman in DESPERATE need of mental health treatment for Bipolar, depression, anxiety & PTSD. I asked the woman on the phone if they treated transgender women and I told her that I was medically… transitioning only. She told me that in order to get help, I had to be fully transitioned. I cannot tell you how much of a blow this is after all I have been through in the past few months.
My daughter was admitted to the wave in Oct and just finished her out patient program. As a family want to say than you to all of the amazing staff that helped her and us through the entire process. The therapist have… been crutial to helping guide us with the treatment plans.we have learned a lot about her diagnosis and how we can as a family help her continue the work.they helped us to better understand what she was feeling and how much we could learn in helping. I am forever grateful for the Wave.
My sister left the wave two weeks ago when she completed the program and she has been doing so good. We have been able to talk about things related to our parents and childhood that she was never able to open up about… before and would cause her to self sabotage. She has made me want to get help to deal with my childhood also. I don’t know how but I feel like I have my sister back. Thank you guys please let me know if you help men also.
My mother was struggling with divorce and retirement. My sister and I looked everywhere and we were about to give up. The wave was amazing from the first phone call with Kristin in admissions to weekly updates. They… helped us with insurance and got us the best cost. Most importantly our mom has her smile back. She is still working on the things she learned and we just had the best holiday we have had as a family in a long time. I would recommend the wave to anyone looking for help for a loved one.
