Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centres in Egypt

Drug and alcohol rehab in Egypt is delivered through private psychiatric hospitals and addiction clinics in Cairo, with further options on the Red Sea coast at Hurghada, El Gouna and Sharm El Sheikh, where the warm climate draws patients from Europe and the Gulf. The Red Sea resorts are within 55 miles of each other, while Cairo sits about 240 miles inland. Private psychiatric and addiction services are licensed through the National Council for Mental Health. We try to check listed providers against those records and the Ministry of Health and Population. Scroll down to browse by city.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions about Egypt

Answered from what is listed here.

Who licenses rehab centers in Egypt?

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population licenses the mental health facilities that treat addiction, under Law No. 71 of 2009, the country's mental health law. Each license runs for five years and a registered psychiatrist must manage the facility, while the National Council for Mental Health, a national government body, sets the standards and the ministry closes unlicensed rehabs.

Do I need a visa to go to rehab in Egypt?

Visa needs for Egypt depend on nationality, and the government's official e-Visa portal offers a tourism visa to nationals of the countries it lists, at 30 US dollars for a single entry or 65 US dollars for a visa allowing repeat entry.

The portal gives no permitted length of stay and no medical visa, so the Egyptian embassy or consulate in a person's own country is the place to raise a longer program.

Can I get opioid substitution treatment in Egypt?

Opioid agonist treatment is being rolled out in selected hospitals of Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population, according to a United Nations agency, under the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, the ministry's national office for addiction care.

Methadone and buprenorphine are the two medicines the agency names for this kind of treatment, though its report does not say which of them Egyptian hospitals use.

Drug and alcohol rehab in Egypt runs on two tracks: licensed private facilities that people mostly pay for themselves, and free public treatment through a state addiction fund and the national health ministry. Outpatient care is listed at nearly all of the rehabs in Egypt, detox at most, and residential treatment at about half.

Within the country, rehabs are listed in Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and El Gouna. Licensing is national, so the same health ministry rules apply to a facility wherever it operates in Egypt, and the same laws on involuntary admission and medical confidentiality cover every city.

Egyptian listings are compiled from government treatment registers, licensing records, accreditor listings and information that providers give about their own services. Arabic is the treatment language at nearly all of them, and German is listed at a few.
