Rehab in Bali follows Indonesia’s national narcotics law, so the Ministry of Health’s designated institutions and BNN, the National Narcotics Board and the government’s narcotics agency, form the public route, while private programs fill most of the listings. Residential rehab and outpatient programs are each listed at most of the rehabs in Bali.

What rules govern rehab in Bali?

Rehab in Bali is governed by Indonesia’s Law No. 35 on Narcotics, and only facilities that the Ministry of Health designates as mandatory-reporting institutions, or that hold an operating permit as medical rehabilitation institutions, may provide medical rehabilitation. Such a facility needs trained doctors and nurses and outpatient facilities that meet the national standard.

A private provider on the island applies first through its regency or city health office. The national narcotics board runs rehabilitation separately, through its provincial office for Bali and regency offices, including assessment, referral and an online rehabilitation service. A person can approach either route, and the ministry lists its designated institutions by province in the appendix to a decree published in its regulation database.

How can someone get assessed for treatment in Bali?

Getting assessed in Bali works through self-reporting: under Indonesia’s narcotics law, an adult with narcotics dependence may go to a community health center (puskesmas), a hospital or a designated rehabilitation institution, or a relative can report for them. The institution then assesses the person and sets out a medical rehabilitation plan.

Nobody needs a doctor’s referral to take this step. The national narcotics board’s offices in Bali accept voluntary clients too, and its national call center on 184 can point a caller toward the nearest office.

Is rehab in Bali ever compulsory?

Rehab in Bali can be compulsory in a criminal case, because Indonesia’s narcotics law says people with narcotics dependence must receive medical and social rehabilitation, and a judge may order rehabilitation whether or not the person is convicted. Outside criminal cases, the voluntary reporting route is how a person on the island enters treatment.

A person arrested in a narcotics matter on the island should seek legal advice on how these articles apply to them.

Who pays for addiction treatment in Bali?

Addiction treatment in Bali is mostly paid by the person, since self-pay is accepted at nearly all listed rehabs and Presidential Regulation No. 82 excludes drug and alcohol dependence from National Health Insurance, which BPJS Kesehatan, Indonesia’s state health insurer, runs. Government pays for medical rehabilitation at designated public facilities for people who cannot afford it.

Government-paid care is limited to two treatment periods and uses the criteria for premium assistance to low-income members. State-funded places, foundation funding and private insurance are each listed at a few rehabs in Bali.

What happens with teenagers and treatment records in Bali?

Teenagers in Bali come under Indonesia’s narcotics law, which makes parents or guardians responsible for reporting an underage child with narcotics dependence to a health center, hospital or designated institution. No age of independent consent to treatment has been identified, and teen rehab is listed at a few of the rehabs in Bali.

Personal records from treatment fall under Law No. 27 on Personal Data Protection, which counts health data as specific personal data.

What types of rehab are available in Bali, and what drives the price?

Bali’s rehabs offer residential care, outpatient programs and detox, with detox listed at about half of them and intensive outpatient care at some. What a person pays is driven by the level of care, the number of weeks and the accommodation, because public insurance does not cover addiction.

A short residential stay followed by outpatient sessions costs differently from a long stay, so asking for the full plan in writing helps. Hospital-based care costs differ again: hospital addiction treatment is listed at a few rehabs in Bali, for people whose withdrawal or health needs closer medical watch. Telehealth is listed at some rehabs on the island.

How long do residential programs in Bali last?

Residential programs in Bali mostly come in fixed blocks, with 14-day, 21-day and 30-day programs each listed at about half of the rehabs. Longer stays of 45, 60 or 90 days appear at some, and the table shows the wider mix.

Which substances and conditions do Bali rehabs treat?

Treatment for alcohol use is listed at about half of Bali’s rehabs, and opioid rehab at about half as well. Medication-assisted care for alcohol appears at about half, while methadone maintenance is offered at a few of them on the island.

Co-occurring mental health conditions are treated at about half, and trauma-informed care and couples rehab at a few. Programs for older adults are listed at some of the island’s rehabs, and HIV and hepatitis care at a few, which matters for anyone who needs medical support beyond the addiction itself.
