Whether a visitor needs a visa, and how long a visa-free stay lasts, depends on nationality, so the nearest Thai embassy or consulate is the place to ask.

The Department of Consular Affairs, part of Thailand’s foreign ministry, sends travelers to their own Thai mission, which may add requirements. Can I bring my medication to a Bangkok rehab?

Medication brought to Bangkok follows Thai Food and Drug Administration rules: up to 30 days of a prescribed psychotropic medicine in Schedules II to IV is allowed with a doctor’s certificate or prescription, and 31 to 90 days needs FDA permit Form IC-2, obtained at least 15 days before travel.

Methadone and other narcotic medicines need a separate permit from the FDA’s Narcotics Division, applied for online, before the flight. Ordinary prescription medicines can come in at up to 30 days’ supply, in their original labeled packs, with a doctor’s letter.

Who do I call in Bangkok in an emergency?

If someone in Bangkok needs urgent help, call 1669 for an ambulance through the National Institute for Emergency Medicine, Thailand’s emergency medical service, or 191 for the police. The national drug hotline, 1165, gives advice and referral, and the Tourist Police answer on 1155 for visitors who run into trouble.
