Treatment Centers in Alabama That Accept Cigna

Alabama’s Cigna Healthcare members have drug and alcohol rehab coverage through their jobs, and Evernorth Behavioral Health, part of the same corporate family, makes the behavioral care decisions. No Cigna individual plan is sold in Alabama, no Alabama Medicaid plan carries Cigna’s name, and the Medicare plans Cigna once sold here now belong to HCSC under the HealthSpring brand.

Each Alabama program here is listed with a direct phone number and the treatment it provides, from medically managed detox to outpatient counseling and medication. Any CARF or Joint Commission credential a program holds is shown too. The entries come from Alabama licensing files and federal treatment registers, and you can filter the list by city or service.

Does Cigna Cover Rehab in Alabama?

Yes, for Alabama workers and families on a Cigna employer plan. On its employer pages Cigna describes the substance use benefit as inpatient and outpatient treatment followed by case management, with each employer’s plan setting what the member pays. Programs listed as rehabs that take Cigna appear alongside other addiction treatment across Alabama.

Cigna’s Alabama business is employer coverage, built on the Open Access Plus and PPO networks that span the country, with sales for Alabama handled from Cigna’s Atlanta office. Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc., Cigna’s own behavioral company, runs behavioral care for those plans instead of an outside vendor; its number for Cigna benefits is 1-800-433-5768.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Alabama?

Yes. Cigna’s behavioral health guidance lists inpatient detox, inpatient rehabilitation after detox and residential treatment as levels of care its plans can cover. Evernorth requires authorization before admission to inpatient addiction treatment and short-term rehab with insurance, and employer plans add no separate behavioral deductible to the medical one.

Cigna designates behavioral Centers of Excellence in four categories, one of them substance use, for facilities that meet its quality and cost-efficiency standards. Alabama employers buying Cigna coverage can also add inpatient and outpatient care management, substance use intervention and complex psychiatric case management, all listed among Cigna’s behavioral programs for employers.

How long will Cigna pay for residential rehab?

Cigna does not publish a day count; Evernorth decides the length of stay based on medical necessity. Since November 2024 its reviews for adults use The ASAM Criteria, Fourth Edition, with the Third Edition for members 17 and under, so a stay continues while the assessed level of care still fits the member’s needs.

Does Cigna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. An Alabama member needs Cigna authorization before residential treatment, an inpatient detox stay, inpatient rehab for substance use or a dual diagnosis admission. Facility staff assess the member face to face, gather clinical details and call the plan at the number on the card; Evernorth’s provider line, 800-926-2273, takes clinical emergencies at any hour.

Does Cigna Cover Detox in Alabama?

Yes. Cigna covers hospital-based detox programs with 24-hour medical care after authorization, and outpatient detox care, which Evernorth calls ambulatory detox, with no authorization at all. On Evernorth’s authorization grid, inpatient detox is grouped with inpatient rehab and residential care, while ambulatory detox is grouped with routine outpatient services.

Does Cigna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Alabama?

Yes. No authorization is needed for a Cigna member’s outpatient psychotherapy, family or group therapy, diagnostic evaluation or medication management visit. In Cigna’s guide, intensive outpatient programs run three to four hours a day on three to five days a week, and whether one needs authorization varies by plan under Evernorth’s grid.

In Cigna’s description, partial hospitalization programs run six to eight hours a day, five to seven days a week, and authorization again depends on the plan. Evernorth Behavioral Care Group, in network for Cigna employer plans, offers virtual outpatient therapy for adults in all 50 states, though it provides no psychiatry or medication management.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Express Scripts handles Cigna pharmacy claims. The lowest-cost tier of Cigna’s national Standard 3-Tier list, updated September 2026, includes acamprosate and generic buprenorphine with naloxone; Zubsolv and Lucemyra are one tier higher, and brand Suboxone is on Tier 3. An Alabama employer may pick a different list, which can change the tier for acamprosate covered by insurance.

Does Cigna cover Suboxone?

Yes. A 2016 settlement with New York’s attorney general led Cigna to drop prior authorization for buprenorphine medications on its commercial plans that October, in a change described as national. Evernorth’s grid adds no step for the first buprenorphine dose, so Suboxone programs that take insurance can begin care, though the generic is on a lower tier than the brand.

Does Cigna cover methadone?

Yes. Evernorth’s authorization grid lists methadone maintenance, billed as an outpatient behavioral service, as needing no authorization, so methadone treatment clinics in a Cigna network can begin dosing after intake. Cigna also sells employers opioid disorder management and narcotics therapy management programs, so an Alabama plan may include them.

Does Cigna cover Vivitrol?

Yes, on many plans. Express Scripts’ 2026 National Preferred Formulary lists Vivitrol, the monthly naltrexone shot, as a specialty injectable, and Cigna sends specialty drugs through Accredo. Alabama members looking at Vivitrol shots through insurance should look up their own plan’s list in myCigna first.

Cigna Rehab Centers by the Bay, in the Mountains and Near Waterfalls

For Cigna employer plans in Alabama, the plan design matters more than the location. An Open Access Plus or PPO member keeps out-of-network coverage at a bigger member share, but a SureFit member is paid only for network care except in emergencies, so one coastal or mountain program can mean very different bills.

Cigna rehab on Mobile Bay and the Gulf

Cigna members around Mobile Bay, from Daphne and Spanish Fort on the eastern shore down to Gulf Shores, can browse rehab programs near bays and treatment centers in Daphne. A residential stay on the coast needs the same Evernorth authorization as one inland.

Cigna rehab near Cheaha and the Appalachian foothills

Cigna members in Calhoun and Talladega counties live below Cheaha Mountain, the highest point in Alabama, at the southern end of the Appalachians. Rehab centers near mountains and programs around Oxford are listed; each program’s own Evernorth contract decides whether it is in network.

Cigna rehab near Noccalula Falls

Cigna members in Etowah County know Noccalula Falls, the waterfall on Black Creek at the edge of Gadsden. Rehabs near waterfalls and treatment options in Gadsden appear here; an Open Access Plus card still pays toward an out-of-network program there, at a higher member share, if none in network fits.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Cigna in Alabama?

Begin with the Alabama listings on this page. Each entry shows a number to call and the levels of treatment offered, and filters narrow the list by town or insurer. Cigna tells members to ask a program whether it participates before booking, and the programs taking private insurance listed here are a good place to start.

Cigna admission to detox, residential or inpatient care starts with the facility’s own assessment, after which the facility requests authorization from Evernorth. A member can also call the behavioral line on the Cigna card and name the program. The table below lists each Cigna plan line in Alabama for 2026 with its status and contact.

Cigna’s PPO network can also be the network behind self-funded Alabama plans run by administrators such as Health Plans, Inc., which lists the Cigna PPO beside the Alabama Premier Network among its member networks. A Birmingham member on such a plan should call the number on that card before choosing rehab programs in Birmingham or Vestavia Hills treatment centers.

Cigna rehab in Huntsville and the Tennessee line

Cigna sold individual plans in more than 80 Tennessee counties for 2026 but none in Alabama, and those Tennessee plans end with 2026. Huntsville residents with Cigna therefore hold employer coverage, which uses the national network on both sides of the state line, including Huntsville addiction treatment and programs near Athens.

Cigna rehab in Mobile and southwest Alabama

Cigna retirees in Mobile County who had Cigna Medicare were moved to HealthSpring, whose 2026 True Choice PPO covers 29 Alabama counties including Mobile, Jefferson, Madison and Montgomery. HealthSpring’s behavioral provider network is still administered by Evernorth, which matters when comparing treatment programs in Mobile for a retiree.

Cigna rehab in Montgomery and Phenix City

Cigna sells individual plans in 74 Georgia counties for 2026, ending at year’s end, but they are not open to Alabama residents in Phenix City or Montgomery. Their Cigna coverage comes through work, and plan type decides whether Montgomery drug and alcohol rehabs or Phenix City recovery programs are in network.

Can I use Cigna for rehab in a different state?

Yes, for Alabama members holding Open Access Plus or PPO cards: the network crosses state lines, and the out-of-network benefit pays non-network programs at a higher member share. SureFit and other network-only designs pay outside the network only in an emergency. The member’s own plan still sets authorization, so call Evernorth before a stay in Georgia, Tennessee or Florida.

How much does rehab cost with Cigna?

Cigna costs depend on the employer’s plan. Cigna plan documents tend to charge a flat copay for each therapy visit, frequently before the deductible applies, while a residential stay, a hospital bed or a day program usually means coinsurance once the deductible is met. Out-of-network programs on Open Access Plus or PPO plans cost the member more.

Cigna coverage in Alabama is tied to a job, so a change of employer can mean a change of network. Members between plans, or whose plan leaves out a level of care, can look at sliding scale treatment programs alongside the Cigna-listed programs here.
