Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Rehab in California?

Yes. Molina Healthcare covers drug and alcohol rehab in California for its Medi-Cal members, and its Medi-Cal benefit list names both mental health and substance use help. Under California’s Medi-Cal design the county, not Molina, delivers the addiction treatment itself, so California drug and alcohol rehabs taking Molina members are reached through the county line.

Molina Healthcare of California holds three Medi-Cal contracts with the California Department of Health Care Services plus a Los Angeles County subcontract, all starting January 1, 2024. The parent company, Molina Healthcare, Inc., is based in Long Beach, where it was founded in 1980, and Molina Healthcare plans in California also include Covered California HMOs.

Which California counties does Molina Medi-Cal serve?

Five: Molina is a Medi-Cal plan in Riverside, San Bernardino, Sacramento and San Diego counties, and in Los Angeles County it serves half of Health Net’s Medi-Cal members as Health Net’s partner. All five counties run the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, so every Molina Medi-Cal member has the full county continuum of Medi-Cal rehab coverage.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Inpatient Rehab in California?

Yes. Molina Medi-Cal members get residential addiction treatment from their county at ASAM levels 3.1, 3.3 and 3.5, because Riverside, San Bernardino, Sacramento, San Diego and Los Angeles are all organized delivery counties. Molina’s Covered California HMO members are covered for hospital inpatient rehab, with residential treatment charged at the plan’s inpatient cost sharing.

How long will Molina Healthcare pay for residential rehab?

Molina’s Medi-Cal members have no fixed residential limit, because their counties follow the organized delivery system rule: a residential stay continues while a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts finds more time clinically needed. The 30-day statewide figure is an average goal set by the state, and a member in San Bernardino or Sacramento can stay longer when needed.

Does Molina Healthcare need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes, but for Molina Medi-Cal members the county gives it: Riverside, San Bernardino, Sacramento, San Diego and Los Angeles authorize residential and inpatient rehab and answer the provider within 24 hours. Molina’s national Medicare behavioral health form lists residential treatment, inpatient detox, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient among the services providers request approval for.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Detox in California?

Yes. As a Medi-Cal managed care plan, Molina covers voluntary inpatient detoxification as emergency stabilization, and the county covers ongoing medical detox under Medicaid, which no Molina county may place under prior authorization. Molina’s 24-hour Nurse Advice Line, (844) 563-8044 in English and Spanish, answers medical questions.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Outpatient Rehab in California?

Yes. Molina Medi-Cal members receive outpatient addiction treatment and intensive outpatient under Medicaid from county-contracted programs, and Molina itself covers individual, family and group therapy and medication management with no referral. Molina does not cover couples counseling, and specialty mental health needs are referred to the county.

Molina points California Medi-Cal members to digital supports too: Soluna and BrightLife Kids through CalHOPE for people under 25, and WEconnect Health Management for members 13 and older with a provider referral. Molina’s national Marketplace page says its plans place no limits on essential health benefits, which include substance use treatment.

Does Molina Healthcare Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Molina Medi-Cal members get medications for addiction treatment through Medi-Cal Rx, the state pharmacy program, at 1-800-977-2273, while methadone comes from county programs. All five Molina counties also run the Recovery Incentives Program, the state’s contingency management program using low-value gift cards for people with stimulant use disorder, alongside naltrexone treatment under Medicaid.

Does Molina Healthcare cover Suboxone?

Yes. For Molina Medi-Cal members, Suboxone and buprenorphine through Medicaid are paid by Medi-Cal Rx rather than by Molina, and buprenorphine is also available through county Narcotic Treatment Programs and organized delivery providers. Molina’s Covered California members are covered under the four-tier drug design every Covered California plan uses.

Does Molina Healthcare cover methadone?

Yes, through the county. Molina Medi-Cal members in Los Angeles, San Diego or the Inland Empire receive methadone maintenance clinics through licensed Narcotic Treatment Programs, which also offer buprenorphine, naloxone and disulfiram and provide at least 50 minutes of counseling each month. Every Molina county must cover dosing out of network for a member temporarily away.

Molina Healthcare Rehab Centers by the Beach, in the San Bernardino Mountains and in the Desert

Molina’s California counties stretch from the Pacific at Long Beach to the Mojave and Colorado deserts, and the plan’s mountain coverage centers on the San Bernardino National Forest. The county decides how rehab runs in each setting, while Molina’s Covered California regions decide which individual members are covered.

Molina Healthcare rehab near Long Beach and the Los Angeles coast

Long Beach is Molina’s home city, and some Medi-Cal members there are assigned to Molina as Health Net’s partner, with ID cards showing both plan names. Coastal rehab programs in Long Beach recovery centers and Santa Monica follow Los Angeles County’s organized delivery rules, and Molina’s Covered California HMO remains in Region 16 for 2027.

Molina Healthcare rehab in the San Bernardino Mountains

Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead, inside the San Bernardino National Forest, lie in San Bernardino County, where Molina, Inland Empire Health Plan and Kaiser offer Medi-Cal. San Bernardino County also runs the Recovery Incentives Program, and national forest rehabs above Redlands treatment programs are authorized through (800) 968-2636.

Molina Healthcare rehab in the Inland Empire deserts

Victorville and Hesperia in San Bernardino County’s high desert, and the Coachella Valley in Riverside County, both sit inside Covered California Region 17, where Molina keeps its HMO for 2027. For Molina Medi-Cal members near desert treatment centers and Victorville rehab programs, each county’s line authorizes care.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Molina Healthcare in California?

Browse the listings on this page. Molina members can filter the programs shown by city, treatment setting and substance, and each listing gives a direct number for the facility. Because Molina Medi-Cal rehab is run by counties, many programs also appear among Medicaid rehab programs on a separate page.

Admission for Molina Medi-Cal members runs through the county substance use line, which screens the member and authorizes residential care; the facility can start that call. Molina Medi-Cal member services, (888) 665-4621, helps with plan questions and therapy, and Molina’s California mental health page lists the same county lines shown below.

Molina Healthcare rehab in Riverside and San Bernardino

Riverside and San Bernardino are Two-Plan counties where Molina is the commercial Medi-Cal plan beside the local Inland Empire Health Plan, with Kaiser also available. Riverside joined the organized delivery system on February 1, 2017 and San Bernardino on March 1, 2018, covering Riverside County rehab centers and San Bernardino County programs.

Molina Healthcare rehab in San Diego

In San Diego County, a Geographic Managed Care county, Molina is one of four Medi-Cal choices beside Kaiser, Community Health Group and Blue Shield Promise, and the county’s (888) 724-7240 line covers both substance use and mental health. Molina Healthcare rehab in Sacramento

Sacramento County is Molina’s one Northern California Medi-Cal county, where it is one of four plans and the county line, (888) 881-4881, authorizes rehab. Molina Healthcare rehab in Orange County

Orange County is not a Molina Medi-Cal county, since CalOptima Health and Kaiser serve Medi-Cal there, and Molina’s Covered California HMO in Region 18 ends after 2026. Molina Marketplace members in Orange County rehab centers and Santa Ana programs need a new carrier for 2027.

Can I use Molina Healthcare for rehab in a different county?

Yes, if the member’s own county has no provider who can deliver the needed care. A Molina Medi-Cal member’s rehab is paid by the county that holds the case, and an organized delivery county must cover medically necessary care out of network when its own providers cannot deliver it, including methadone dosing while the member is away.

How much does rehab cost with Molina Healthcare?

Nothing for most Molina Medi-Cal members: members whose income is under the Medi-Cal limit owe nothing for behavioral health care, and Molina, as a managed care plan, charges no copays. Molina’s Covered California HMO members pay the standard Covered California cost sharing for their metal tier, the same at every carrier, with residential care at the inpatient rate.

Undocumented adult Molina Medi-Cal members, and some other immigrant members, move from health plans to fee-for-service Medi-Cal on January 1, 2027, while county specialty behavioral health services continue. Southern California treatment programs and county-funded rehab remain open to them through the same county lines.
