Top Albany Drug and Alcohol Addiction Centers

Albany is a small East Bay city on the shore of San Francisco Bay in northern Alameda County, and this page lists drug and alcohol rehab centers nearby. Albany residents look at treatment programs in Oakland, just to the south along the Interstate Eighty corridor, and across the bay in San Francisco, where the choice is wider.

Each Albany listing shows licensing from the California Department of Health Care Services and any Joint Commission or CARF accreditation. Alameda County Medi-Cal members are served through Alameda Alliance for Health, and Kaiser Permanente is common. San Rafael adds options. Browse the listings below.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions about Albany

Answered from what is listed here.

Are there treatment options in neighboring areas of Albany?

Outpatient and telehealth are what is listed in Albany, and the wider Alameda County and Northern California listings are where people look for anything beyond that. San Francisco is the closest large city with deeper provision.

Sacramento and San Jose also carry listings, and both are reachable for someone willing to travel for a level of care that is not offered within Albany itself.

Rehabs in Northern Californiahttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/california/northern-california/
Can treatment be done remotely from Albany?

Telehealth appointments are listed in Albany, which suits people keeping a job or study schedule in Alameda County while attending sessions. Licensing for the providers behind these listings sits with the California Department of Health Care Services, and Medi-Cal is accepted at listed facilities here.

Online Rehab and Telehealthhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/online-rehab-and-telehealth/
Where can adolescents in Albany find substance use treatment?

Treatment for adolescents is listed in Albany, delivered through outpatient scheduling and remote sessions rather than a live-in setting. Co-occurring mental health care is flagged here too, which often matters for younger people being referred by a school or a family doctor.

Medi-Cal is accepted at listed facilities, and sliding scale fees and state-funded places are also flagged for families in Alameda County working without private coverage.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Albany, CA

Albany occupies a little under two square miles of the East Bay shoreline, wedged between Berkeley to the south and El Cerrito to the north, with San Francisco Bay along its western edge.

It incorporated in 1908 under the name Ocean View and took its present name the following year, after the New York city where its first mayor had been born.

Albany Hill rises behind the town and the bay frontage below it is now shoreline park, while the flatland grid in between is almost entirely residential.

Interstate 80 runs along the waterfront, which puts Berkeley minutes south, Oakland fifteen minutes down the bay and San Francisco across the bridge.

Albany lists standard outpatient care and telehealth, and Medi-Cal and Medicare are both accepted.

Nothing beyond that is available in the city. Detox, residential treatment and co-occurring care all sit in the surrounding East Bay, though none of them is far.

Alameda County runs the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, which entitles a Medi-Cal member to an assessment against American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria and a referral to the level of care that assessment indicates, anywhere in the county.

Because the local listings already take public coverage, that countywide referral extends what is here rather than substituting for it.

Which Level of Care Do You Need?

Albany covers outpatient care locally and relies on the surrounding East Bay for the rest. The sections below set out each level.

Medically Supervised Detox

No provider in Albany offers detox. Berkeley immediately south carries it, Richmond has it a few minutes north, and Oakland holds the most in the East Bay.

Medically supervised detox manages the physical withdrawal that comes with stopping alcohol, opioids or benzodiazepines. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can be dangerous without clinical supervision, which is why it belongs under medical care rather than at home.

It usually runs a few days to a week and is the beginning of treatment rather than treatment in itself. If you or a loved one has been drinking heavily every day, this is the first call to make, and the county line can arrange it directly.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential treatment is not available in Albany. Oakland carries the most within reach, with Berkeley and Richmond both offering it minutes away and San Pablo adding another option.

Residential treatment means living at a program for thirty, sixty or ninety days, with clinical support available through the day rather than at scheduled appointments.

Because the East Bay cities run into one another, a residential placement from here rarely means leaving the area, which removes one of the common reasons people decline this level.

It suits people who have completed detox, who have tried outpatient care without it holding, or whose home circumstances make stopping difficult. That last one describes a household rather than a person.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Standard outpatient care and telehealth are available in Albany.

For intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization, Berkeley and Oakland both carry intensive outpatient nearby, and San Pablo offers partial hospitalization a short drive north.

Partial hospitalization runs most of the day several days a week, intensive outpatient a few hours several times a week, and standard outpatient is lighter again. Telehealth being available locally removes the transport problem that often decides whether someone finishes a course of treatment.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Co-occurring treatment is not available in Albany. San Francisco across the bay carries by far the most within reach, with Oakland, Berkeley and San Pablo all offering it closer to hand.

Around half of people with a substance use disorder also have a diagnosable mental health condition, and treating one while leaving the other alone rarely holds.

Say at the first call if depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress or bipolar disorder is part of what you or your loved one is dealing with. It changes which programs are appropriate, and it is better raised at the start than discovered in week three.

Because the East Bay is well provided at this level, being without it locally is less of a constraint here than it would be somewhere more remote.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide drug-free housing after formal treatment ends. This directory does not list recovery residences separately. California certifies recovery residences through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals and regional affiliates of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences.

Recovery housing is not available in Albany but appears across the East Bay and the city, with Berkeley and San Francisco both carrying options within a short journey.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

With outpatient care available locally and the East Bay immediately around, cost here comes down to which funding route applies rather than what is reachable.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Albany?

Detox reachable from Albany runs roughly $7,000 to $24,000 a month, residential $6,000 to $45,000, PHP $7,500 to $15,000, IOP $3,000 to $10,000 and outpatient $1,200 to $5,000. Luxury and executive programs elsewhere in California reach $30,000 to $90,000 or more.

Those ranges describe the private market and will not apply to most people reading this page. Medi-Cal carries no premium and no copay for substance use treatment, and if you or a loved one is uninsured an eligibility check costs nothing.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Albany?

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care, which means a plan cannot impose stricter limits on addiction treatment than on comparable medical care. Alameda Alliance for Health and Kaiser Permanente deliver Medi-Cal managed care in Alameda County.

Albany listings accept Medi-Cal and Medicare, so the local option is genuinely open to people on public coverage. For every other level, the county referral is the route.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Albany, CA

Free and state-funded care is arranged through Alameda County rather than through the city, and it costs nothing to ask.

Alameda County Behavioral Health assesses eligibility, matches to a level of care and makes the referral. There is no charge for the assessment and no obligation attached to making the call.

Placing countywide opens Berkeley, Oakland and Hayward rather than only what sits in Albany — which matters most for detox, residential and co-occurring care.

If you are looking into this for a loved one rather than yourself, an eligibility check takes one call and commits them to nothing.

The California Naloxone Distribution Project supplies naloxone free to community organizations, and Never Use Alone on 800-484-3731 stays on the line with people using alone.
