Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Crescent City, CA

Crescent City sits on the far north coast a few miles below the Oregon line, the seat of Del Norte County and the most remote city in California.

The 1964 Alaska earthquake sent a tsunami into the harbor that killed eleven people and destroyed twenty-nine blocks of the town; Crescent City remains the most tsunami-exposed community on the American west coast and the harbor was struck again in 2006 and 2011.

Redwood National and State Parks surround it, holding the tallest trees on earth. Pelican Bay State Prison operates north of the town.

Highway 101 runs the coast, putting Eureka around 90 minutes south and Grants Pass, Oregon, two hours north-east over the mountains.

California recorded a drug overdose death rate roughly 6 percent below the national figure in 2024.

Methamphetamine was involved in around 57 percent of California overdose deaths that year, more than any other substance, while fentanyl drives the opioid share.

County rates in 2024 ranged from 11.3 per 100,000 in Napa County to 91.5 in Lake County, both in Northern California.

Del Norte County does not participate in the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System. Medi-Cal members here receive the narrower State Plan Drug Medi-Cal benefit rather than the full ASAM continuum available in the 40 counties that do, which is worth knowing before you start calling. This is the most remote county in California and the nearest counties running the full system are several hours away.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

The counts below reflect the 1 Crescent City facility listed in this directory.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation, usually across several days, and is where treatment begins for anyone physically dependent on alcohol, opioids or benzodiazepines. The Crescent City facility does not offer detox, and there is none in Del Norte County. Eureka has one around 90 minutes south, the only detox on the north coast.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care provides a structured live-in setting for weeks or months. The Crescent City facility does not offer it. Eureka has three around 90 minutes south, which is the nearest provision.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you live at home while attending sessions, and it is all that is available locally. The Crescent City facility offers outpatient services and IOP with telehealth. It does not offer PHP, and there is none anywhere on the north coast.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than in sequence. The Crescent City facility does not currently indicate it treats co-occurring disorders, which is worth establishing directly. Three Eureka facilities do.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide drug-free housing after formal treatment ends. This directory does not list recovery residences separately. The California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals certifies residences statewide.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

The single facility here accepts Medi-Cal and Medicare, though the county is outside DMC-ODS.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Crescent City

IOP in Crescent City runs roughly $3,000 to $10,000 a month and outpatient $1,200 to $5,000, both available locally. Detox, residential and PHP all mean 90 minutes or more south, at $7,000 to $24,000, $6,000 to $45,000 and $7,500 to $15,000 monthly. The Crescent City facility accepts Medi-Cal and Medicare.

Del Norte County sits outside DMC-ODS, so the Medi-Cal benefit here is the narrower State Plan version. Combined with the distances, that makes planning any higher level of care well in advance genuinely important.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Crescent City

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care. The Crescent City facility accepts Medi-Cal and Medicare. Partnership HealthPlan of California is the Medi-Cal managed care plan across Del Norte County, which offers the narrower State Plan Drug Medi-Cal benefit.

Medi-Cal carries no premium and no copay for substance use treatment. If you are uninsured, an eligibility check costs nothing.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Crescent City, CA

Publicly funded care is available locally, though narrower than in DMC-ODS counties.

The listed facility accepts Medi-Cal, and an eligibility check costs nothing.

Del Norte County Health and Human Services administers State Plan Drug Medi-Cal locally and can advise on what is covered.

The California Naloxone Distribution Project supplies naloxone free to community organizations, and Never Use Alone on 800-484-3731 stays on the line with people using alone.

More Help and Recovery Support

Sutter Coast Hospital serves Del Norte County. There is no trauma center within several hours; serious cases are flown to Eureka, Medford or Portland, and coastal weather regularly grounds aircraft. That distance is worth understanding before a crisis rather than during one.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets in Crescent City, and for the whole of Del Norte County these are the nearest regular meetings. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Northern California region. The Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation and Elk Valley Rancheria both operate health services locally. Given the isolation and local telehealth, online options serve a genuine purpose here. Adjacent Eureka and Arcata carry further options.
