Rehabs by setting in Bakersfield

Where each part of the area sits, and what is on its doorstep.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source. From an official register, or added and checked by our team.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Do you run a treatment service?

If it is already listed, claim it to correct details, add photographs and reply to reviews. If it is not listed, add it.

Free, wherever you are. Nothing you do here changes where you appear.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Bakersfield, CA

Bakersfield sits at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, where the Kern River leaves the Sierra and the valley floor meets the Tehachapi mountains.

Colonel Thomas Baker drained the marshland here in the 1860s and planted an alfalfa field for travelers to graze their stock; the settlement that grew around Baker’s field took his name.

Oil was struck at Kern River Field in 1899 and the county still produces the largest share of California’s crude. Dust Bowl migration from Oklahoma and Arkansas in the 1930s reshaped the city, and Buck Owens and Merle Haggard built the Bakersfield Sound out of that population in the honky-tonks along Edison Highway.

Highway 99 and Highway 58 cross here, putting Los Angeles around two hours south over the Grapevine and Fresno an hour and a half north.

California recorded a drug overdose death rate roughly 6 percent below the national figure in 2024, and Southern California drove much of the improvement.

Los Angeles County recorded a 22 percent fall in overdose deaths that year, from 3,137 to 2,438, the largest single-year drop in its history, and fentanyl deaths fell below methamphetamine deaths for the first time in years.

Methamphetamine was involved in 62 percent of accidental overdose deaths in Los Angeles County in 2024, up from 60 percent, while fentanyl involvement fell to 52 percent from 64 percent.

Kern County participates in the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, live since March 2019, which covers a full continuum of care assessed against American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation, usually across several days, and is where treatment begins for anyone physically dependent on alcohol, opioids or benzodiazepines. Only around 1 of the 13 Bakersfield facilities offers detox, with 2 more offering hospital inpatient care. For a city of 400,000 that is the thinnest first step of any market this size in the directory.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care provides a structured live-in setting for weeks or months. About 3 Bakersfield facilities offer residential care, with 1 offering rehab transfers.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you live at home while attending sessions. Around 11 facilities offer outpatient services, 6 offer IOP and 3 offer PHP. Ten offer telehealth, though only 1 offers medication-assisted treatment — which in a county with this much opioid burden is worth establishing directly.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than in sequence. All 13 Bakersfield facilities indicate they treat co-occurring disorders. Universal local coverage is rare anywhere in this directory.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide drug-free housing after formal treatment ends. This directory does not list recovery residences separately. California certifies recovery residences through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals and regional affiliates of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Ten of thirteen facilities accept Medi-Cal, so cost constrains access here far less than the range of levels does.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Bakersfield

Residential rehab in Bakersfield runs roughly $6,000 to $45,000 a month, PHP $7,500 to $15,000, IOP $3,000 to $10,000 and outpatient $1,200 to $5,000, all available locally. Detox at $7,000 to $24,000 sits with a single provider. Of the 13 facilities, 10 accept Medi-Cal, 9 accept Medicare and 6 accept TRICARE.

Universal co-occurring treatment alongside one detox provider and one offering medication-assisted treatment is an unusual shape. If you need to withdraw safely first, or need buprenorphine or methadone, start with the county access line rather than working through the outpatient providers.

Standard rehab and detox, Bakersfield and the wider California market

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Bakersfield

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care. Among the 13 Bakersfield facilities, 10 accept Medi-Cal, 9 accept Medicare and 6 accept TRICARE. Kern Health Systems and Health Net are the Medi-Cal managed care plans across Kern County.

Ask about Spanish-language provision when you call. Bakersfield has a large Spanish-speaking population, much of it tied to agriculture and oil field work, and treatment works considerably better in a first language. California extended full-scope Medi-Cal to income-eligible adults regardless of immigration status in 2024.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Bakersfield, CA

Publicly funded care is the main route for most people here.

Ten of the 13 facilities accept Medi-Cal, and an eligibility check costs nothing.

Kern Behavioral Health and Recovery Services runs a 24-hour Substance Use Disorder Access Line on 866-266-4898, which assesses and refers countywide at no charge.

The California Naloxone Distribution Project supplies naloxone free to community organizations, and Never Use Alone on 800-484-3731 stays on the line with people using alone.

More Help and Recovery Support

Kern Medical is the county hospital and the only trauma center between Fresno and the Los Angeles basin, serving a catchment across the southern valley and the Tehachapi mountains. Adventist Health Bakersfield and Bakersfield Memorial also operate here, and Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital provides specialist psychiatric and addiction inpatient capacity.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily across Bakersfield with a substantial Spanish-language schedule. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Central California region. Celebrate Recovery is widespread in valley churches. Adjacent Downtown Bakersfield, Oleander and East Bakersfield carry further options.
