The name is a portmanteau, from Ed Fletcher and William Gross, who developed the hill together. Listings are reviewed against SAMHSA data, DHCS licensing and Joint Commission or CARF accreditation where a provider has sought it. Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Grossmont, La Mesa, CA

Grossmont occupies the summit and slopes on the northeastern side of La Mesa, where the city meets El Cajon.

The name is a portmanteau. Ed Fletcher and William Gross developed the hill together in the early 1900s, and Gross plus mont produced a name that has since attached itself to a hospital, a shopping center, a high school and a community college district.

Grossmont High School opened in 1920 and is the oldest secondary school in East County. Grossmont Center followed in 1961, one of the first open-air shopping centers in the county.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital sits at the northern edge — the largest hospital in East County, with a full emergency department and a behavioral health unit.

Interstate 8, State Route 125 and the trolley Orange Line all pass through, which makes this one of the better-connected districts in the eastern half of the county.

San Diego County recorded 340 fentanyl-caused deaths in 2025 against 802 in 2022, with overall overdose deaths falling 21 percent between 2023 and 2024.

The combination available here is genuinely unusual: hospital-based behavioral care in La Mesa, outpatient depth and two licensed opioid treatment programs in El Cajon, all within fifteen minutes.

Methamphetamine remains San Diego County’s longest-tracked substance, addressed through a strike force running since 1996.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Grossmont sits between La Mesa and El Cajon, which between them carry sixteen listed programs. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. Around three detox programs sit within fifteen minutes, of roughly 39 across San Diego County, with three hospital inpatient options in La Mesa for medically complicated withdrawal.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. Around four residential programs sit within reach alongside the hospital inpatient capacity — a fuller range of intensive options than most of the county offers locally.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep living at home. Around 13 outpatient and two IOP programs sit within fifteen minutes, with roughly four partial hospitalization programs. El Cajon’s two licensed opioid treatment programs put methadone within ten minutes.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Around four programs within reach treat co-occurring serious mental illness, and Sharp Grossmont operates a unit for people with both medical and psychiatric needs.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. East County rents sit well below coastal levels, which makes a longer stay achievable. California residences are certified by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

This is one of the broadest coverage pictures anywhere in San Diego County — strong on Medicaid, Medicare and TRICARE at once.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Grossmont

Outpatient care within reach of Grossmont runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with PHP at $7,500 to $15,000, detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 11 programs within fifteen minutes accept Medicaid, 11 accept Medicare and ten accept TRICARE.

Very few neighborhoods in the county carry double figures across all three public programs simultaneously. Whatever coverage you hold, something within fifteen minutes is likely to take it.

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care. Within fifteen minutes, around 11 programs accept Medicaid, 11 accept Medicare and ten accept TRICARE, alongside broad private insurance acceptance.

Medi-Cal carries no premium and no copay for substance use treatment, including methadone through a licensed program and buprenorphine through an office-based prescriber.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Grossmont, La Mesa

San Diego County provides publicly funded treatment through the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, which places people by assessed clinical need.

East County holds a substantial share of that capacity.

The County Access and Crisis Line on 888-724-7240 is free, confidential and open around the clock, and refers anywhere in the county. Dialing 2-1-1 reaches the same network.

Around 43 county programs run sliding fee scales, three of them in El Cajon, and A New PATH distributes free naloxone and fentanyl test strips across San Diego County under county contract.

More Help and Recovery Support

Sharp Grossmont Hospital is minutes away on Grossmont Center Drive, the largest hospital in East County, and it operates a unit combining medical and psychiatric inpatient care. Alvarado Hospital Medical Center is around ten minutes west.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily across La Mesa and El Cajon through the San Diego Central Office, with the trolley Orange Line making meetings accessible without a car. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the San Diego–Imperial Counties Region, and Al-Anon runs family meetings throughout East County.
