Top Arts District Drug and Alcohol Addiction Centers

The Arts District occupies the warehouse blocks between Alameda Street and the Los Angeles River, on the eastern edge of Downtown LA. This was the industrial quarter until lofts and galleries reshaped it from the 1990s. Listings here are reviewed against SAMHSA data, state DHCS licensing and any Joint Commission or CARF accreditation a provider carries. If a detail looks wrong, tell us and we will check it again. Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in the Arts District, CA

The Arts District occupies the warehouse blocks between Alameda Street and the Los Angeles River, on the eastern edge of Downtown LA.

This was the industrial heart of the city — freight depots, canneries and cold stores served by the rail lines along the river — and it emptied out through the 1970s as manufacturing left.

Artists moved into the vacated buildings, and the city legalized live-work occupancy in 1981 through an ordinance that made the district possible.

The Southern California Institute of Architecture occupies a quarter-mile-long former Santa Fe freight depot on Santa Fe Avenue, and the Sixth Street Viaduct reopened across the river in 2022.

The 10 and 101 run either side, with the Metro A and E lines a few blocks west.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

The district now houses a mix of long-established artists and newer arrivals in converted lofts, with a substantial bar and restaurant trade along Traction and Industrial.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Los Angeles County holds around 609 listed treatment programs, 286 of which accept Medicaid and 35 of which are licensed opioid treatment programs — by a wide margin the deepest publicly funded provision in Southern California. The city of Los Angeles alone carries around 137. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation, and alcohol withdrawal in particular carries real medical risk without it. The city carries around 26 detox programs, of roughly 122 across the county.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. Around 39 residential programs operate in the city, of roughly 222 countywide.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep working while attending sessions, and partial hospitalization delivers close to residential intensity without an overnight stay. The city carries around 99 outpatient, 30 IOP and 21 partial hospitalization programs.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Around 54 city programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness, of roughly 187 across the county.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. Loft living in a district with an active bar trade is a real consideration early in recovery. Certification is by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Self-employment and freelance work are the norm here, which makes the county’s public provision more relevant than the loft prices suggest.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in the Arts District

Outpatient care across the city runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with PHP at $7,500 to $15,000, detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 72 city programs accept Medicaid and 44 run sliding fee scales.

Medi-Cal is assessed on income, and self-employed or irregular earnings do not disqualify anyone. Los Angeles County provides no-cost substance use treatment at any provider in its network for anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of immigration status, and an intake appointment should be scheduled within ten calendar days of a screening.

Around 95 of the city’s 137 programs offer telehealth, which removes one of the more common obstacles for people whose work does not follow fixed hours.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in the Arts District, CA

Los Angeles County delivers publicly funded treatment through its Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, administered by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.

Being uninsured or between contracts does not mean being without options.

The LA County Help Line on 800-854-7771 is free, confidential and staffed 24 hours a day, and requires no insurance to talk to someone.

Around 181 county programs run sliding fee scales, and naloxone distribution has expanded substantially across the county.

More Help and Recovery Support

LAC+USC Medical Center is around ten minutes northeast and is one of the busiest public hospitals in the United States, with a Level I trauma center. California Hospital Medical Center sits southwest of downtown.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily throughout the Arts District and Downtown LA through the Los Angeles Central Office, with more meetings within walking distance than almost anywhere in the county. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Southern California Region, and SMART Recovery offers a secular alternative across the city.
