Top Boyle Heights Drug and Alcohol Addiction Centers

Boyle Heights sits on the bluff east of the Los Angeles River, and has been an arrival neighborhood for successive communities for over a century. Jewish, Japanese, Russian and Mexican Los Angeles all took root here. We aim to check each provider against SAMHSA records, California DHCS licensing and Joint Commission or CARF accreditation where it applies. Verification is continuing rather than a one-off check. What is currently listed for Boyle Heights appears below.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Boyle Heights, CA

Boyle Heights sits on the bluff east of the Los Angeles River, and it has been the arrival neighborhood for successive communities for well over a century.

Jewish, Japanese, Russian Molokan, Armenian and Mexican families all settled here, and by the 1930s it was among the most ethnically mixed neighborhoods west of the Mississippi. Restrictive covenants elsewhere in the city were a substantial reason why.

Mariachi Plaza on First Street has been a hiring spot for musicians since the 1930s, and Self Help Graphics on East First has printed for Chicano artists since 1970.

The neighborhood was cut through by five freeways in the middle of the century, more than any other in the city, and lost thousands of homes to them.

The Metro E Line runs beneath First Street, with the 5, 10, 60 and 101 all crossing.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

The county’s own analysis found fentanyl overdose death rates nearly four times higher in its least affluent areas — those where more than 30 percent of families live below the federal poverty level — than in its most affluent, at 39.1 against 10.0 per 100,000 in 2024.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Los Angeles County holds around 609 listed treatment programs, 286 of which accept Medicaid and 35 of which are licensed opioid treatment programs — by a wide margin the deepest publicly funded provision in Southern California. The city of Los Angeles alone carries around 137. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. The city carries around 26 detox programs, 18 of them residential detox and five hospital inpatient, with LAC+USC Medical Center on the neighborhood’s northern edge.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. Around 39 residential programs operate in the city, of roughly 222 countywide.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep working while attending sessions. The city carries around 99 outpatient and 30 intensive outpatient programs, with six licensed opioid treatment programs providing methadone.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Around 54 city programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness, of roughly 187 across the county.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. Certification of California recovery residences is by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals rather than the state.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Los Angeles County provides no-cost treatment through its network, and 86 city programs work in Spanish.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Boyle Heights

Outpatient care across the city runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 72 city programs accept Medicaid, 44 run sliding fee scales and 86 provide services in Spanish.

Los Angeles County provides no-cost substance use treatment at any provider in its network for anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of immigration status, and an intake appointment should be scheduled within ten calendar days of a screening. Medi-Cal is separately open to income-eligible adults regardless of status, and applying does not affect immigration proceedings or a future green card application.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Boyle Heights

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care. Across the city around 72 programs accept Medicaid, 47 accept Medicare and 86 provide services in Spanish — the deepest Spanish-language provision of any county in Southern California.

Federally qualified health centers across Boyle Heights provide primary care on a sliding scale and can refer directly into substance use treatment, which is frequently a lower-barrier route than calling a program cold.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Boyle Heights, CA

Los Angeles County delivers publicly funded treatment through its Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, administered by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.

Treatment through the county network is provided at no cost to anyone meeting the criteria, regardless of immigration status.

The LA County Help Line on 800-854-7771 is free, confidential and staffed 24 hours a day, with translation available.

Around 181 county programs run sliding fee scales, and naloxone distribution has expanded substantially across Los Angeles County.

More Help and Recovery Support

LAC+USC Medical Center sits on the northern edge of the neighborhood — one of the busiest public hospitals in the United States, with a Level I trauma center — and White Memorial Medical Center is on Cesar Chavez Avenue.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily throughout Boyle Heights through the Los Angeles Central Office, with Spanish-language groups widely available. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Southern California Region, and federally qualified health centers across the neighborhood provide primary care on a sliding scale.
