Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Northridge, CA

Northridge gave its name to the earthquake that struck at 4.31 in the morning on 17 January 1994.

The magnitude 6.7 shock killed 57 people, injured thousands and caused damage across Southern California measured in tens of billions of dollars — the costliest earthquake in United States history at the time. Its epicenter was actually beneath Reseda, but the name stuck.

California State University, Northridge sits at the center of the neighborhood with around forty thousand students, and its campus was severely damaged in the quake and substantially rebuilt afterward.

The area was called Zelzah and then North Los Angeles before taking its present name in 1938.

Reseda Boulevard, Nordhoff Street and the 118 connect it, with Granada Hills north and Reseda south.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

A campus of this size changes the clinical picture. Young adults between 18 and 25 carry distinct patterns of use, and confidentiality is usually a greater worry than cost.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Los Angeles County holds around 609 listed treatment programs, 286 of which accept Medicaid and 35 of which are licensed opioid treatment programs — by a wide margin the deepest publicly funded provision in Southern California. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. Around 122 detox programs operate across the county, with four in Reseda and eight in Tarzana within fifteen minutes.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months, which for a student means a formal leave of absence the university has a process for. The county carries around 222 residential programs.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets a student stay in class. The county carries around 395 outpatient and 113 intensive outpatient programs, with 442 of its 609 offering telehealth — which suits a term-time timetable better than fixed afternoon sessions.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Anxiety, depression and ADHD frequently present alongside substance use in student populations, and around 187 county programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends, and for a student they can be a genuine alternative to shared accommodation where use is normalized. Certification is by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Cost is usually solvable for students. Confidentiality is the thing that actually stops people asking.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Northridge

Outpatient care across the county runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 286 county programs accept Medicaid and 181 run sliding fee scales.

Low income makes Medi-Cal eligibility straightforward for many students independently of a parent’s plan, and anyone under 26 may still sit on that plan as well. Los Angeles County provides no-cost substance use treatment at any provider in its network for anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of immigration status, and an intake appointment should be scheduled within ten calendar days of a screening.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Northridge

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care, including for dependents on a parent’s plan up to age 26. Across the county around 286 programs accept Medicaid and 203 accept Medicare.

Substance use treatment records carry specific federal protection, stronger than general medical records. A program cannot notify a university, an employer or a family member without consent from an adult patient, and using a parent’s insurance does not by itself override that.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Northridge, CA

Los Angeles County delivers publicly funded treatment through its Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, administered by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.

No insurance is required to talk to someone.

The LA County Help Line on 800-854-7771 is free, confidential and staffed 24 hours a day, handling referrals for young people as well as adults.

Around 181 county programs run sliding fee scales, and naloxone distribution has expanded substantially across the county.

More Help and Recovery Support

Northridge Hospital Medical Center is in the neighborhood with a full emergency department, and West Hills Hospital is around fifteen minutes southwest.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily around the campus and across Northridge through the San Fernando Valley Central Office, including young people’s groups. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Southern California Region, CSUN runs student health and counseling services, and SMART Recovery offers a secular alternative many students prefer.
