Cal Poly Pomona sits on the former Kellogg Arabian horse ranch, given to the state by the cereal magnate in 1949, and the horses are still bred and shown there.

Pomona College was founded in the city in 1887 before moving to Claremont the following year, taking the name with it.

The 10, 57 and 71 all cross here, with Claremont east and San Dimas north.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

The county’s own analysis found fentanyl overdose death rates nearly four times higher in its least affluent areas — those where more than 30 percent of families live below the federal poverty level — than in its most affluent, at 39.1 against 10.0 per 100,000 in 2024.
