Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Santa Clarita, CA

Santa Clarita incorporated in 1987 by merging four communities — Newhall, Saugus, Canyon Country and Valencia — into what is now the third largest city in Los Angeles County.

Newhall is the oldest. Oil was first drilled commercially in California at Pico Canyon above it in 1876, and the refinery that followed was the first in the state.

On 12 March 1928 the St. Francis Dam collapsed above the valley, sending a wall of water down the Santa Clara River and killing around 431 people. It remains the second greatest loss of life from a disaster in California history, and it ended the career of William Mulholland.

Six Flags Magic Mountain opened in 1971, and CalArts has been in Valencia since 1971 as well.

Interstate 5 and the 14 meet here, with the San Fernando Valley over the Newhall Pass.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

Santa Clarita carries around six listed programs, five of which treat co-occurring serious mental illness — the highest proportion of any city of its size in the county.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

The local provision is outpatient and dual-diagnosis focused. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. None operate in Santa Clarita; the nearest sit in Sylmar and across the San Fernando Valley, around 25 minutes south.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. None are listed locally — around 222 operate across Los Angeles County, with clusters in the Valley over the pass.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep working while attending sessions. Santa Clarita carries around six outpatient, two intensive outpatient and three partial hospitalization programs — a strong partial hospitalization showing for a city with no residential provision.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Five of the city’s six listed programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness, which is unusual and useful.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. Certification of California recovery residences is by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals rather than the state.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Partial hospitalization delivers close to residential intensity without an overnight stay, which matters where no residential provision exists locally.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Santa Clarita

Outpatient care in Santa Clarita runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with PHP at $7,500 to $15,000, detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000 meaning travel south. Around three local programs accept Medicaid, five accept Medicare and three accept TRICARE.

Two Santa Clarita programs offer services specifically for adolescents, which is worth knowing in a city with a large school-age population and no residential provision of its own. Los Angeles County provides no-cost substance use treatment at any provider in its network for anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of immigration status, and an intake appointment should be scheduled within ten calendar days of a screening.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Santa Clarita

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care, including for dependents. Locally around three programs accept Medicaid, five accept Medicare and two offer adolescent services.

Where telehealth forms part of a plan, confirm the program is licensed to deliver that level of care remotely. Outpatient and intensive outpatient commonly are; detox and residential are not.

Los Angeles County delivers publicly funded treatment through its Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, administered by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.

More Help and Recovery Support

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is in the city with a full emergency department and a trauma center — the only hospital serving the Santa Clarita Valley — and Providence Holy Cross in Sylmar is around twenty minutes south.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily throughout Santa Clarita through its own central office, with a wide choice of times across the valley. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Southern California Region, and CalArts and College of the Canyons both run student wellbeing services.
