Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Sherman Oaks, CA

Sherman Oaks was subdivided in 1927 and named for Moses Sherman, the railway magnate whose interurban lines opened much of the San Fernando Valley to building.

The Sherman Oaks Galleria opened at Ventura and Sepulveda in 1980 and became a cultural shorthand for the Valley within a couple of years, though the mall itself was rebuilt as offices after the 1994 earthquake.

The neighborhood runs from the flats along Ventura Boulevard up into the hills toward Mulholland, and the housing changes character sharply as it climbs.

The 405 and 101 meet here at one of the busiest freeway interchanges in the country.

Encino lies west, Studio City east and West LA over the hill.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

One figure from that analysis stands apart. While overdose deaths fell across almost every age group in 2025, deaths among adults aged 65 and over rose 14 percent.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Los Angeles County holds around 609 listed treatment programs, 286 of which accept Medicaid and 35 of which are licensed opioid treatment programs — by a wide margin the deepest publicly funded provision in Southern California. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation, and in older adults alcohol or benzodiazepine withdrawal can complicate existing cardiac and hepatic conditions. Around 122 detox programs operate across the county, with eight in Tarzana fifteen minutes west.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. The county carries around 222 residential programs, and medication management is worth raising at assessment rather than after admission.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you sleep at home, which most older adults strongly prefer. The county carries around 395 outpatient programs, 203 of which accept Medicare.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Bereavement, isolation and late-onset depression are common drivers in later life, and around 187 county programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. They are rarely the relevant option for long-settled homeowners here, though transitional housing exists across the Valley.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Los Angeles County carries 203 Medicare-accepting programs, far more than any neighboring county, and that matters given the rise in older-adult deaths.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Sherman Oaks

Outpatient care across the county runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 203 county programs accept Medicare, including 13 in Tarzana and 13 in Van Nuys nearby.

Medicare Part A covers inpatient treatment and Part B covers outpatient, both subject to deductibles and coinsurance. Dual eligibility for Medicare and Medi-Cal is common on a fixed income and opens more doors than either alone.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Sherman Oaks

Yes. Medicare covers substance use treatment, and federal parity law requires most other plans to cover it on terms comparable to medical care. Across the county around 286 programs accept Medicaid, 203 accept Medicare and 173 accept TRICARE.

Prescribed medication should be raised with a physician rather than stopped abruptly. Benzodiazepine withdrawal in particular should be medically managed, and a supervised taper is safer than a sudden stop.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Sherman Oaks, CA

Los Angeles County delivers publicly funded treatment through its Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, administered by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.

Dual eligibility for Medicare and Medi-Cal opens the widest set of options.

The LA County Help Line on 800-854-7771 is free, confidential and staffed 24 hours a day, and also handles mental health referrals — relevant where drinking and depression travel together.

Around 181 county programs run sliding fee scales, and the LA County Aging and Disabilities Department can help with arranging care for an older adult.

More Help and Recovery Support

Sherman Oaks Hospital is in the neighborhood with a full emergency department, and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center is around fifteen minutes west.

Alcoholics Anonymous runs daytime meetings along Ventura Boulevard and across Encino through the San Fernando Valley Central Office, which suit retired members better than evening groups. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Southern California Region, and Al-Anon meets across the Valley for spouses and adult children.
