Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Sylmar, CA

Sylmar sits at the northern tip of the San Fernando Valley, where the San Gabriel and Santa Susana ranges meet.

The name means sea of trees, taken from the olive groves planted here in the 1890s — at their height the largest olive grove in the world, and the Sylmar Olive Festival still marks the connection.

On 9 February 1971 the Sylmar earthquake killed 64 people, most of them when the Veterans Administration hospital collapsed. The disaster led directly to the Alquist-Priolo Act and to modern Californian seismic building standards.

The Nethercutt Collection on San Fernando Road holds one of the more significant automobile and mechanical music collections in the country.

Interstate 5, the 210 and the 14 all converge here, and Sylmar is the last Valley neighborhood before the Newhall Pass.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

The county’s own analysis found fentanyl overdose death rates nearly four times higher in its least affluent areas — those where more than 30 percent of families live below the federal poverty level — than in its most affluent, at 39.1 against 10.0 per 100,000 in 2024.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

Sylmar carries around four listed programs, two of which treat co-occurring serious mental illness. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. Sylmar carries one residential detox program, with more across the Valley corridor south, of roughly 122 across the county.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. Around two residential programs operate in Sylmar, of roughly 222 countywide.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep working while attending sessions. Sylmar carries around two outpatient and one intensive outpatient program, with considerably more in Van Nuys and Reseda to the south.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Around two local programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness, of roughly 187 across the county.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. Certification of California recovery residences is by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals rather than the state.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center gives this end of the Valley hospital capacity that the neighborhoods around it lack.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Sylmar

Outpatient care within reach runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Two Sylmar programs accept Medicaid and two provide services in Spanish.

Los Angeles County provides no-cost substance use treatment at any provider in its network for anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of immigration status, and an intake appointment should be scheduled within ten calendar days of a screening. Medi-Cal is separately open to income-eligible adults regardless of immigration status, and applying does not affect immigration proceedings.
