Top Tarzana Drug and Alcohol Addiction Centers

Tarzana is named after a fictional character, which is not true of anywhere else in Los Angeles. Edgar Rice Burroughs bought a ranch here in 1919 with the proceeds of the books and named it after his creation. Our team checks listings against SAMHSA data, California DHCS licensing and any Joint Commission or CARF accreditation. Licensing and accreditation are separate, and a provider may hold one without the other. What is currently listed for Tarzana appears below.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Tarzana, CA

Tarzana is named after a fictional character, which is not true of anywhere else in Los Angeles.

Edgar Rice Burroughs bought a ranch here in 1919 with the proceeds of his novels and called it Tarzana after his creation. When the surrounding land was subdivided in the late 1920s, residents voted to keep the name.

Ventura Boulevard runs the length of the neighborhood, and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center sits on it — a major Valley hospital with a full emergency department.

The flats north of the boulevard give way to hillside streets running up toward Mulholland and the Santa Monica Mountains.

The 101 connects it, with Encino east and Woodland Hills west.

Los Angeles County recorded 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in 2025, a 6 percent fall from the previous year and the third consecutive annual decline, according to the county Department of Public Health. Deaths are down nearly 30 percent from the 2022 peak of 3,220, driven by a more than 40 percent reduction in fentanyl-related deaths.

Tarzana carries around 19 listed treatment programs, making it one of the larger concentrations in the San Fernando Valley — and unusually, 15 of them run sliding fee scales.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

The local provision is genuinely deep and unusually accessible. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. Tarzana carries around eight detox programs, three of them residential detox and three hospital inpatient — one of the stronger detox concentrations in the county.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. Around eight residential programs operate in Tarzana, with 13 more in Woodland Hills minutes west.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep working while attending sessions. Tarzana carries around 13 outpatient, seven intensive outpatient and two partial hospitalization programs, with a licensed opioid treatment program in the neighborhood.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Around three Tarzana programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness, with the hospital providing psychiatric capacity alongside.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. Certification of California recovery residences is by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals rather than the state.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Fifteen sliding fee scales in one neighborhood is exceptional, and it is the single most useful fact about treatment here.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Tarzana

Outpatient care in Tarzana runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 13 local programs accept Medicaid, 13 accept Medicare and 15 run sliding fee scales.

A sliding scale sets the fee against your income rather than a fixed rate. It exists for people who earn too much for Medi-Cal and too little to absorb a full private fee, and few places in Southern California offer this many in one neighborhood.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Tarzana

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care. Locally around 13 programs accept Medicaid, 13 accept Medicare and 15 accept TRICARE, with 13 providing services in Spanish.

Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE and sliding scales all being well represented in the same neighborhood is rare. Whatever coverage you hold, something here is likely to take it. Los Angeles County provides no-cost substance use treatment at any provider in its network for anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of immigration status, and an intake appointment should be scheduled within ten calendar days of a screening.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Tarzana, CA

Los Angeles County delivers publicly funded treatment through its Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, administered by the Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.

Thirteen local programs accept Medi-Cal, so an assessment does not require leaving the neighborhood.

The LA County Help Line on 800-854-7771 is free, confidential and staffed 24 hours a day, with translation available.

Around 181 county programs run sliding fee scales, and naloxone distribution has expanded substantially across the county.

More Help and Recovery Support

Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center is in the neighborhood with a full emergency department, and West Hills Hospital is around fifteen minutes west.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily throughout Tarzana and Encino through the San Fernando Valley Central Office, with Spanish-language groups available. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the Southern California Region.
