Top Mission Valley Drug and Alcohol Addiction Centers

Mission Valley follows the San Diego River through the middle of San Diego, and this page lists addiction and mental health services in the valley and on its rim. Hillcrest and Mission Hills sit on the southern rim, and Allied Gardens lies farther east, up the river.

Mission Valley listings include licensing from the California Department of Health Care Services, Joint Commission or CARF accreditation, and whether the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration lists a facility nationally. Medi-Cal members here often enroll with Community Health Group. North Park and Normal Heights lie to the south. Scroll through the listings below.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Mission Valley, San Diego, CA

Mission Valley runs east to west along the San Diego River, the corridor that separates the older city from the northern mesas.

Mission San Diego de Alcalá stands at the eastern end. Founded in 1769 on Presidio Hill and moved here in 1774, it was the first of the twenty-one California missions.

For most of the twentieth century the valley was dairy farms and flood plain. Development began in earnest with the shopping centers in the 1960s, and the valley now carries a substantial share of the city’s retail, hotels and newer apartment housing.

Snapdragon Stadium opened in 2022 on the former Qualcomm Stadium site, alongside San Diego State University’s expanding campus in the valley.

Interstate 8 runs the length of it, with State Route 163 and Interstate 805 crossing, and the trolley Green Line following the river.

San Diego County recorded 340 fentanyl-caused deaths in 2025, down from 802 in 2022, and overall overdose deaths fell 21 percent between 2023 and 2024.

The valley’s position is its clinical advantage. Every part of the city is within twenty minutes, and the trolley makes a great deal of it reachable without a car.

Methamphetamine remains San Diego County’s longest-tracked substance, addressed through a strike force running since 1996.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

The city of San Diego carries around 73 listed treatment programs — roughly 12 detox, 24 residential, 12 partial hospitalization, 17 intensive outpatient and 52 outpatient — a different scale from anywhere else in the county. Mission Valley sits at the geographic center of the city, which makes almost all of it accessible. Counts come from the federal SAMHSA treatment locator.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation across several days. Around 12 detox programs operate across the city, four offering residential detox and five hospital inpatient detox.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care means living on site for weeks or months. Around 24 residential programs operate across the city, the widest choice anywhere in San Diego County.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you keep working while attending sessions. Around 52 outpatient, 17 IOP and 12 partial hospitalization programs operate across the city, and the trolley Green Line puts many of them within walking distance of a stop.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than one after the other. Around 16 city programs treat co-occurring serious mental illness, of roughly 45 across San Diego County.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide substance-free housing after formal treatment ends. The valley’s newer apartment stock makes transitional arrangements more available than in the older neighborhoods. California residences are certified by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

Being central is worth real money, because it means the whole of the city’s public provision is genuinely reachable rather than theoretically available.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Mission Valley

Outpatient care across the city runs roughly $1,200 to $5,000 a month and IOP $3,000 to $10,000, with PHP at $7,500 to $15,000, detox at $7,000 to $24,000 and residential at $6,000 to $45,000. Around 41 city programs accept Medicaid and 25 run sliding fee scales.

Transport is a real cost and belongs in the comparison. The Green Line runs the valley from Santee to Old Town and connects to the Blue and Orange lines, which removes the driving problem for a substantial share of the city’s programs.

Around 33 city programs offer services tailored to young adults, relevant with San Diego State’s valley campus and a substantial student rental population here.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Mission Valley, San Diego

San Diego County provides publicly funded treatment through the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, which places people by assessed clinical need rather than address.

The city holds the majority of that capacity.

The County Access and Crisis Line on 888-724-7240 is free, confidential and staffed around the clock, and refers anywhere in the county. Dialing 2-1-1 reaches the same network.

Around 43 county programs run sliding fee scales, 25 of them within the city, and A New PATH distributes free naloxone and fentanyl test strips across San Diego County under county contract.

More Help and Recovery Support

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest are both designated trauma centers around ten minutes south, with Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa a similar distance north.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily throughout the valley and the surrounding neighborhoods through the San Diego Central Office, with the trolley making a wide choice reachable without a car.
