Common questions about Solana Beach

Answered from what is listed here.

How far is treatment if someone is traveling in to Solana Beach?

Listed facilities in Solana Beach sit about 31 miles from San Diego International Airport, which is the practical arrival point for anyone flying into San Diego County for treatment rather than driving south from Los Angeles or Orange County.

People traveling in are usually arriving for residential care, and each listing carries its own airport distance, so transfer time can be worked out before a flight is booked.

Are there addiction treatment programs for teens in Solana Beach?

Teen treatment is listed in Solana Beach, and adolescent placements sit alongside residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient care across San Diego County, so a young person can shift between levels of care without leaving the area they live in.

Families using TRICARE or a private plan will find both routes shown, and dual diagnosis support appears where a mental health condition sits behind the substance use.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs in Solana Beach, CA

Solana Beach sits on the coast in north San Diego County between Del Mar and Encinitas, around three and a half square miles.

Colonel Ed Fletcher sluiced away the bluff here in the 1920s with high-pressure water to create Fletcher Cove, still the main beach access.

The Cedros Design District occupies the old industrial strip beside the rail line, and Solana Beach was the first city in the United States to ban single-use plastic bags, in 2012. The bluffs here are actively eroding and repeatedly reinforced.

Interstate 5 and Highway 101 both serve the town, putting Del Mar five minutes south and Encinitas five minutes north.

California recorded a drug overdose death rate roughly 6 percent below the national figure in 2024, and Southern California drove much of the improvement.

Los Angeles County recorded a 22 percent fall in overdose deaths that year, from 3,137 to 2,438, the largest single-year drop in its history, and fentanyl deaths fell below methamphetamine deaths for the first time in years.

Methamphetamine was involved in 62 percent of accidental overdose deaths in Los Angeles County in 2024, up from 60 percent, while fentanyl involvement fell to 52 percent from 64 percent.

San Diego County participates in the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, live since July 2018, which covers a full continuum of care assessed against American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria. Every Southern California county runs the system, which is not true across much of the north.

Which Level of Care Do You Need

The sections below set out what each level of care involves and how it is funded locally.

Medically Supervised Detox

Detox manages withdrawal under clinical observation, usually across several days, and is where treatment begins for anyone physically dependent on alcohol, opioids or benzodiazepines. It typically runs three to seven days for alcohol and five to ten for opioids. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can be dangerous without medical supervision, which is why this level exists.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Residential care provides a structured live-in setting for weeks or months, usually 30, 60 or 90 days. It suits people who have completed detox, who have tried outpatient care without it holding, or whose home circumstances make recovery difficult.

Outpatient, IOP and PHP Treatment

Outpatient care lets you live at home while attending sessions. Partial hospitalization runs most of the day several days a week; intensive outpatient runs a few hours several times a week; standard outpatient is lighter still. Most people step down through these rather than stopping after residential care.

Dual Diagnosis and Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Dual diagnosis care treats a substance use disorder and a mental health condition together rather than in sequence. Around half of people with a substance use disorder also have a diagnosable mental health condition, and treating one without the other tends not to hold.

Sober Living Homes and Transitional Living

Sober living homes provide drug-free housing after formal treatment ends. This directory does not list recovery residences separately. California certifies recovery residences through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals and regional affiliates of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences.

Addiction Treatment Cost and Insurance Coverage

The north San Diego coast holds a dense cluster of private residential programs, and prices along this stretch sit at the top of the range.

How Much Does Addiction Rehab Cost in Solana Beach

Detox in Solana Beach runs roughly $7,000 to $24,000 a month, residential $6,000 to $45,000, PHP $7,500 to $15,000, IOP $3,000 to $10,000 and outpatient $1,200 to $5,000. Luxury and executive programs elsewhere in Southern California reach $30,000 to $90,000 or more. Medi-Cal covers substance use treatment with no premium and no copay for most members.

Because the county runs the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System, a Medi-Cal member is assessed against American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria and referred to the level of care that assessment indicates, rather than to whatever happens to be contracted locally. The county access line handles that referral free of charge.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Solana Beach

Yes. Federal parity law requires most health plans to cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to medical care. Molina Healthcare, Blue Shield Promise and Community Health Group are the Medi-Cal managed care plans across San Diego County.

Ask whether a program bills your insurer directly or expects you to pay and reclaim afterward. Out-of-network reimbursement is the norm along this coast and the difference up front is substantial. Be cautious of any program offering to cover your travel, waive your deductible or pay you to attend.

Free and State-Funded Addiction Rehab in Solana Beach, CA

Publicly funded care is narrower along this coast than inland.

An eligibility check for Medi-Cal costs nothing, and El Cajon has twenty-nine accepting facilities inland.

San Diego County’s access line assesses and refers under DMC-ODS at no charge, on 888-724-7240.

The California Naloxone Distribution Project supplies naloxone free to community organizations, and Never Use Alone on 800-484-3731 stays on the line with people using alone.

More Help and Recovery Support

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas serves this stretch of coast. UC San Diego Health operates the region’s level one trauma center at Hillcrest, around 25 minutes south.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets daily along the north San Diego coast. Narcotics Anonymous operates through the San Diego region. Refuge Recovery and SMART Recovery both meet locally. Adjacent Del Mar, Encinitas, Carlsbad and San Diego carry further options.
