Online Rehab and Telehealth in Colorado

Online rehab in Colorado means substance use treatment delivered by video or phone from clinicians who can legally treat you where you live, whether that is Denver, Pueblo or a mountain town hours from the nearest clinic. Programs listing telehealth here lean toward the Front Range: 62 percent sit in urban areas, 23 percent in rural ones, and their median elevation is 5,410 feet.

Listings on RehabSeekers.com draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details sent in by the providers themselves. Use the listings as a starting point, then confirm services, insurance and start dates with intake staff before you enroll.

Common questions about Telehealth Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Colorado cities have online rehab programs?

Online rehab programs in Colorado cluster around providers based in Denver, followed by Aurora, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Holly Hills, in that order of concentration.

Fort Collins is another larger city with nearby providers. Because sessions happen by video or phone, a provider's home city matters less than its license, its hours and whether occasional in-person visits are available when needed.

Online Rehab and Telehealth in Denverhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/colorado/denver/telehealth-rehab-denver/
Does Health First Colorado cover online rehab in Colorado?

Colorado Access, Colorado Community Health Alliance and Northeast Health Partners are among the Regional Accountable Entities managing Health First Colorado behavioral health benefits, and coverage for online rehab runs through whichever one a member is enrolled in.

Most of the online rehab programs in Colorado accept Health First Colorado. Confirming with intake staff that a program bills the member's own plan, and that video sessions are covered, avoids surprises.

Rehab Centers in Colorado That Accept Health First Coloradohttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/colorado/health-first-colorado/
Are there online rehab programs near a river in Colorado?

A median of about 16.2 miles from listed facilities separates online rehab programs in Colorado from the nearest river, and most of the online rehab programs in Colorado sit within 25 miles of one. Listings name the North Fork South Platte River first, followed by the Burgess River and the Saint Charles River.

What does online addiction treatment look like in Colorado?

Online addiction treatment in Colorado is clinical care, such as video counseling, a virtual intensive outpatient program or medication treatment, delivered by licensed staff over a secure connection. Most programs start with an assessment by video, then build a schedule of individual sessions, group therapy and check-ins.

Intensity varies from one program to the next. A virtual intensive outpatient program in Colorado usually means several group sessions a week, while lighter outpatient care may be one or two appointments. Online peer meetings sit outside this picture, since mutual-help groups have no clinician leading them and do not count as treatment.

Licensing follows the patient, not the office. A clinician seeing you by video generally needs a license that is valid in Colorado while you are in the state, and the Behavioral Health Administration licenses programs through a base license with add-on authorizations for particular services. Ask intake staff for both the program’s license and your clinician’s Colorado license number.

Telemedicine for behavioral health is a covered benefit under Health First Colorado, the state’s Medicaid program, with most of it handled by regional plans such as Colorado Access and Rocky Mountain Health Plans. Phone-only visits are less clear-cut, so check with your plan before relying on them. Medicare and private insurers set their own telehealth rules and copays.

FormatWhat it usually includes
Video counselingOne-to-one therapy with a licensed clinician
Virtual IOPScheduled group sessions several days a week
Medication treatmentPrescriber visits, lab or pharmacy coordination

Online peer support meetings are a different thing. Mutual-help groups can be a real source of support, but no clinician runs them and they are not treatment. Telehealth is listed in Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and some programs also note Spanish-language sessions; see Spanish-speaking rehab in Colorado. For how online care works nationally, see online rehab and telehealth.

Do online treatment providers need a Colorado license?

A clinician treating you online generally needs a license valid in Colorado while you are located in Colorado, even when the program’s office is in another state. Colorado’s Behavioral Health Administration licenses behavioral health programs through a Behavioral Health Entity base license with added endorsements for specific services. Ask the admissions team two plain questions: which Colorado license does the program hold, and what is your clinician’s Colorado license number? State licensing records let you look both up. Some national sales pages never say where their clinicians are licensed, so the question is worth asking every time.

Does Health First Colorado or my insurance pay for telehealth addiction treatment?

Health First Colorado, the state’s Medicaid program, covers telemedicine for behavioral health. Most of that benefit runs through Regional Accountable Entities: Rocky Mountain Health Plans, Northeast Health Partners, Colorado Community Health Alliance and Colorado Access, with Denver Health’s Elevate plan operating separately. The state’s telemedicine manual includes billing codes for audio-only visits, but it does not say plainly that phone-only sessions are paid for every substance use service, so ask your regional plan or the program before relying on phone visits. More on coverage is at Medicaid-accepted programs.

Medicare and private plans each set their own telehealth rules, copays and network lists. Call the number on your card and ask whether telehealth substance use care is covered and whether the program is in network. Programs that take Medicare are gathered at Medicare rehab in Colorado.

Can I start medication for opioid use disorder through telehealth in Colorado?

Starting buprenorphine by telehealth is possible in some cases, but it depends on federal Drug Enforcement Administration rules that have been extended and revised several times since 2020. No separate Colorado rule on telehealth buprenorphine starts was found, so the federal rule in force on the day of your first visit is the one that matters. Ask the prescriber which rule they follow and whether an in-person visit will be needed later. Methadone works differently: it is dispensed through opioid treatment programs, which Colorado’s State Opioid Treatment Authority oversees. Compare options at Suboxone clinics in Colorado.

When is in-person care the safer choice?

In-person care is often the safer choice when withdrawal could be medically risky, such as stopping heavy alcohol or benzodiazepine use, or when home is not a safe or private place to recover. Those are reasons to get an assessment, not reasons to give up on treatment. A clinician can say whether you need supervised detox in Colorado first and then move to online care. Colorado’s naloxone standing orders let agencies give naloxone to anyone at risk of seeing or having an overdose, which is worth having at home during treatment.

Distance still shapes the choice. Programs listing telehealth sit a median of 14.3 miles from the nearest airport, most often Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, and 69 percent are within 25 miles of a river, most often the North Fork South Platte River, per our rivers data. People far from those corridors may lean on video care between occasional in-person visits.

Technology and privacy basics

A steady connection, a device with a camera and a room where nobody can overhear are the practical basics. Ask whether the platform is HIPAA-compliant and how session notes are stored. Headphones help in shared homes. Under Colorado law, a minor of any age may consent to substance use treatment from a Colorado-licensed physician; see teen rehab in Colorado.

If you need help right now

Calling or texting 988 reaches 988 Colorado, which now handles what Colorado Crisis Services used to; the state lists no separate substance use helpline. For all treatment types statewide, browse Colorado rehab listings.
