Treatment Centers in Connecticut That Accept Cigna

Cigna Healthcare, the health benefits arm of The Cigna Group of Bloomfield, covers drug and alcohol rehab for Connecticut members of employer plans it insures or administers. Behavioral care, from a detox admission or residential stay to weekly counseling and prescriptions, is handled by Evernorth Behavioral Health, a fellow Cigna Group business.

Each Connecticut program here shows a number to call and the treatment it offers: a detox unit, residential beds, a day program or counseling. Programs with CARF or Joint Commission accreditation are marked. Listing details are taken from Connecticut licensing files and government treatment registers. Filter the list, then ask each program about Cigna.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Cigna Cover Rehab in Connecticut?

Yes, on Cigna Healthcare employer plans. Cigna says substance use care on those plans covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment, with case management afterward, and members pay whatever share their plan normally sets. The Connecticut addiction treatment centers shown below are programs that bill Cigna Healthcare plans.

The Cigna Group is headquartered at 900 Cottage Grove Road in Bloomfield, and its oldest insuring company, Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, dates from 1865. In Connecticut, Cigna is an employer-plan company: Open Access Plus and PPO plans on its national network, plus self-funded plans run by Allegiance, a Connecticut General subsidiary. Evernorth Behavioral Health administers behavioral care.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Connecticut?

Yes, where the plan includes it. Evernorth’s authorization grid lists inpatient substance use rehabilitation, inpatient dual diagnosis care and residential treatment as levels Cigna plans pay for after authorization. Cigna’s own treatment guide describes residential addiction programs as stays of 28 days or more and inpatient acute care as the step after detox.

How long will Cigna pay for residential rehab?

Cigna publishes no residential day limit. Evernorth measures each stay against The ASAM Criteria, using the fourth edition for adults, adopted in November 2024, and the third for anyone 17 or younger, so a stay at short-term rehabs taking insurance continues as long as the member meets that standard.

Does Cigna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. Cigna plans need authorization for inpatient detox, inpatient rehabilitation and residential treatment. Intake clinicians assess the member face to face and then call Cigna at the number on the card; Evernorth Behavioral Health takes provider calls on 800-926-2273, with clinical emergencies handled 24 hours a day.

Does Cigna Cover Detox in Connecticut?

Yes. Cigna covers medical detox programs taking insurance in two forms: round-the-clock medical detox as an inpatient, which Evernorth must authorize, and ambulatory detox while living at home, which its grid lets programs start without a request. Cigna’s own treatment guide treats inpatient detox as the usual first step before inpatient acute or residential care when withdrawal needs medical supervision.

Does Cigna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Connecticut?

Yes. Under Evernorth’s grid, Cigna members need no authorization for individual, family or group therapy, psychiatric evaluations or medication visits. By Cigna’s own account, intensive outpatient programs taking insurance run several hours a session on most weekdays, and authorization for them varies by plan.

In Cigna’s description, partial hospitalization programs are the fuller day option, taking up most of the day on most days of the week, and each plan again sets its own authorization rule. Behavioral care on Cigna employer plans has no deductible of its own, and a licensed clinician can be reached by phone day or night, crises included.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Express Scripts, part of Evernorth, runs Cigna pharmacy benefits, with home delivery through Cigna Home Delivery Pharmacy. Cigna’s Standard 3-Tier list puts acamprosate and generic buprenorphine-naloxone in the lowest tier, Lucemyra and Zubsolv on Tier 2, and brand Suboxone film on Tier 3. Cigna’s employer programs add opioid disorder management for addiction medication treatment.

Does Cigna cover Suboxone?

Yes. A settlement with New York’s Attorney General in October 2016 led Cigna to stop requiring prior authorization for buprenorphine across its commercial plans, a change reported as national. Starting buprenorphine is also on Evernorth’s list of services with no authorization step, so Suboxone clinics taking insurance can begin treatment directly.

Does Cigna cover methadone?

Yes, as an outpatient service. Methadone maintenance is one of the services Evernorth lets network clinics begin without asking first, so a Cigna member can start at a methadone treatment clinic in the network without a separate request. Cigna also sells employers a narcotics therapy management program, so a Connecticut plan may include it.

Cigna Rehab Centers Along the Farmington River, Near Ski Areas and on the Sound

For Cigna members, plan design matters more than scenery. Members on Open Access Plus or a PPO can use the national network and also get reduced payment for programs outside it; SureFit and HMO members are limited to network programs unless it is an emergency. Evernorth manages the behavioral benefit for every one of these plan designs.

Cigna rehab along the Farmington River

Connecticut’s Farmington River winds through Simsbury, Avon and Farmington before joining the Connecticut River at Windsor, a few miles from Cigna’s Bloomfield campus. Riverside treatment centers and Bloomfield recovery programs in this valley use the same Evernorth authorization as programs anywhere else in the state.

Cigna rehab near Connecticut ski areas

Connecticut’s ski areas sit in the hills at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, Ski Sundown in New Hartford and Powder Ridge in Middlefield. Cigna members who want rehabs near ski resorts or treatment programs in Winsted should find out first whether a program there is in the Open Access Plus network.

Cigna rehab on Long Island Sound

Connecticut’s Long Island Sound beaches line Westport, Fairfield, Milford and Madison. A Cigna member considering beachside rehab centers or Westport treatment options follows the same rules as inland: authorization for residential care, none for routine outpatient therapy, and a lower out-of-network payment where the plan has one.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Cigna in Connecticut?

Browse the listings on this page. Every one of them takes Cigna, and each entry lists a phone number, the care offered and accreditation details. You can sort by town, care level or substance, and residential programs taking insurance have a separate page.

For detox, inpatient or residential care, the program assesses the member, then contacts Cigna with clinical details to get authorization. Members with benefit questions can call the behavioral line on their card or Cigna Healthcare’s national behavioral benefits number, 1 (800) 433-5768. The table below shows the Cigna plans Connecticut residents still hold.

Cigna rehab in Bloomfield and Greater Hartford

Cigna’s headquarters on Cottage Grove Road in Bloomfield is the home base of the company that formed in 1982 from Connecticut General and INA. Hartford-area members use the same national Evernorth network as anyone else and can compare North End Hartford rehab programs with options across the Capitol Region. The myCigna portal shows what each member’s own plan covers.

Cigna rehab in Danbury and Western Connecticut

Connecticut small employers, Danbury’s included, can buy Trustmark Small Business Benefits, level-funded plans for five or more employees that can run on the Cigna PPO network. A member on one of these plans should call Trustmark, 800-522-1246 nationally or the number on the card, before entering Danbury treatment centers or New Canaan recovery services.

Cigna rehab in New Haven and the Shoreline

Evernorth Behavioral Care Group, Evernorth’s own therapy practice, had clinicians in every state by late 2025 and is in network for Cigna employer plans. It treats adults 18 and over in outpatient therapy only, without medication management, so a New Haven member would use Downtown New Haven treatment programs for higher levels of care.

Cigna rehab in Middletown and the Lower Connecticut River Valley

Any Middletown-area retiree who had Cigna Medicare Advantage now holds a HealthSpring card. Health Care Service Corporation bought the business from Cigna in March 2025 and renamed the plans HealthSpring on the first day of 2026. Authorizations granted before that date stayed valid for Downtown Middletown rehab options until they expired.

Can I use Cigna for rehab in a different state?

Yes, for Cigna members with Open Access Plus or PPO coverage. Their national network reaches other states, and these plans also pay some share for out-of-network programs. SureFit plans and Cigna HMO designs cover out-of-network care only in an emergency. Inpatient and residential stays need authorization in every state, and a program outside Connecticut requests it the same way.

How much does rehab cost with Cigna?

Cigna costs depend on the employer plan. Cigna’s documents usually show a set copay for therapy visits, not subject to the deductible, and coinsurance after the deductible for residential stays, hospital care, day programs and intensive outpatient groups. One deductible covers medical and behavioral care, and Clearity plans use copays only, with no deductible or coinsurance.

Is Cigna still in Medicare in Connecticut?

No. Cigna no longer sells Medicare Advantage or stand-alone drug plans anywhere, after the March 2025 sale to Health Care Service Corporation. Former Cigna Medicare members in Connecticut became HealthSpring members on January 1, 2026, and HCSC lists Connecticut among its 2026 HealthSpring Medicare Advantage states.

Cigna coverage is not the only way Connecticut residents pay for treatment. Where the employer buys one, a Cigna EAP adds free, confidential counseling sessions for anyone in the household, up to a limit the employer sets. Listings here also show sliding scale rehab programs and treatment that takes Medicaid for addiction care.
