Outpatient Rehab Centers in Connecticut

Outpatient rehab here means treatment for drug and alcohol use that you attend while living at home. It does not mean physical therapy after an injury or surgery. In Connecticut, listed outpatient programs are most often in New Haven, Waterbury, Bridgeport, Stamford, Hartford and New Britain. The rural northeast and northwest corners have fewer.

Listings are built from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details the providers send us. Each listing shows the levels of care, payment types, languages and groups a program reports serving, so you can compare options before calling intake staff.

Common questions about Outpatient Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are outpatient rehabs in Connecticut?

New Haven, Waterbury, Bridgeport, Stamford and Hartford are where outpatient rehab listings in Connecticut cluster. Scheduled sessions in these cities let people keep living at home and continue working or going to school during treatment.

Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven are the larger cities near these listings, which affects bus routes, parking and travel time to regular appointments. Intake staff can explain session schedules, including evening options where a program offers them.

Rehab Centers in New Havenhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/connecticut/new-haven/
Do outpatient rehabs in Connecticut take HUSKY Health?

Nearly all of the outpatient rehabs in Connecticut record accepting HUSKY Health. Behavioral health benefits run through the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership, a collaboration of the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Department of Children and Families and Department of Social Services. Ask the admissions team to confirm coverage before intake.

Rehab Centers in Connecticut That Accept HUSKY Healthhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/connecticut/husky-health/
Are there outpatient rehabs near a river in Connecticut?

Nearly all of the outpatient rehabs in Connecticut sit within 25 miles of a river, at a median of about 1.7 miles from the nearest river to each facility. Named rivers start with the Quinnipiac River, then the Pequonnock River and the Mad River.

Nearby water can matter to people who like a walk before or after a session. Admissions staff can describe the surroundings of a program and the easiest way to reach it.

What does outpatient treatment for substance use look like in Connecticut?

Outpatient treatment in Connecticut is scheduled counseling and medical care for a substance use disorder that you attend during the day or evening, then go home. Most programs combine individual and group counseling. Many add family sessions and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. The Department of Public Health licenses programs, and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) funds much of the public system.

Connecticut’s outpatient programs sit almost entirely in towns rather than remote areas. Every listed program is within 25 miles of a river, at a median of 1.7 miles, and that river is most often the Quinnipiac River. In addition, 96 percent are within 30 miles of an airport, most commonly Tweed New Haven Airport.

Medications for opioid use disorder in outpatient care include buprenorphine and naltrexone. Methadone comes only from opioid treatment programs, which DMHAS lists. For alcohol use disorder, prescribers may use naltrexone, acamprosate or disulfiram. Listings note the medications each provider reports, on pages for Suboxone clinics and methadone clinics in Connecticut.

Connecticut law lets a minor of any age consent to alcohol or drug treatment. Treatment details stay private from parents unless the minor agrees (C.G.S. 17a-688(d)). Programs serving teens in Connecticut appear in the listings, alongside those reporting services for veterans and pregnant women. DMHAS also funds Women’s Specialty Programs for pregnant and parenting women, and Spanish-speaking programs are listed separately.

How many hours a week is outpatient care compared with IOP and PHP?

Standard outpatient care is usually fewer than 9 hours of treatment a week for adults. Intensive outpatient (IOP) is 9 to 19 hours, and partial hospitalization (PHP) is 20 hours or more, following the ASAM Criteria levels. Teen IOP starts at 6 hours a week. Connecticut licensing rules govern each program type, so ask intake staff which level a program is licensed for and what a typical week looks like.

Level of careTypical weekly hours (adults)What a week often includes
Standard outpatient (ASAM 1)Under 9One or two counseling sessions, plus medication visits if needed
Intensive outpatient (ASAM 2.1)9 to 19Several group and individual sessions, often in the evening
Partial hospitalization (ASAM 2.5)20 or moreMost of the day, most weekdays, with medical and psychiatric access

To compare levels, see IOP in Connecticut and PHP in Connecticut, or read the national guide to outpatient treatment.

Does HUSKY Health or private insurance pay for outpatient treatment in Connecticut?

HUSKY Health, Connecticut’s Medicaid and CHIP program, pays for outpatient substance use treatment for eligible members of HUSKY A, B, C and D. The Department of Social Services runs the program. Connecticut expanded Medicaid, so HUSKY D covers low-income adults without dependent children. HUSKY has no managed care plans. Behavioral health runs through the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership, and live video sessions for covered behavioral health services are paid at the in-person rate.

Medicare Part B covers outpatient substance use treatment from enrolled providers. Federal parity law bars most private plans from limiting substance use care more tightly than medical care. Without coverage, look at DMHAS-funded and sliding-scale programs. Each listing shows the payment types and insurers a provider reports taking, including Medicaid. Ask the admissions team about your plan before the first visit.

How can I find out if an outpatient program in Connecticut is licensed?

Look the program up in the records of the Connecticut Department of Public Health’s Facility Licensing and Investigations Section, which issues state licenses for substance use treatment facilities. Ask intake staff for the license number and the levels of care it covers. Accreditation from the Joint Commission or CARF is a separate, voluntary credential worth asking about. A RehabSeekers.com listing reflects what a provider reports. It is not a license record or a recommendation.

When is outpatient care not enough?

Outpatient care may not be enough in three situations: when withdrawal could be dangerous, when earlier outpatient treatment was followed by a return to use, or when home is not a stable place to recover. Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines after heavy use can cause seizures, and opioid withdrawal can be severe. Get an assessment first. An assessment can point you to medically managed withdrawal or residential care before you step down to outpatient.

Connecticut’s Substance Use Services Access Line, 1-800-563-4086, answers 24 hours a day. Staff refer callers to walk-in assessment, outpatient care, detox and residential beds. Dial 211 for local services, call or text 988 in a crisis, and call 911 for a medical emergency. More programs and payment pages across the state start at Connecticut rehab listings.
