Treatment Centers in District of Columbia That Accept Humana

Humana covers drug and alcohol rehab in Washington, DC through two lines: Humana Medicare Advantage plans, sold in the District for 2026 and 2027, and TRICARE East, which its subsidiary Humana Military administers for military families. Humana left employer group medical coverage after 2023 and runs no DC Medicaid plan, so those members use other carriers.

Each listing below shows a program’s phone number, levels of care and accreditation, drawn from government treatment registers and District licensing records, and the filters sort by neighborhood, setting and medication. A Humana Medicare or TRICARE card tells a program which rules apply, so it helps to read the plan name aloud on the first call.

Does Humana Cover Rehab in Washington, DC?

Yes, for District members of Humana Medicare Advantage and for TRICARE beneficiaries whose East Region coverage Humana Military administers. Humana sells Medicare Advantage in 46 states and Washington, DC for 2026 and announced 45 states and the District for 2027, and both lines pay District drug rehab programs under Medicare or TRICARE rules.

Humana announced on February 23, 2023 that it would leave employer group commercial medical coverage, including fully insured, self-funded and Federal Employees Health Benefits plans, over 18 to 24 months. It kept Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE lines, but its Medicaid states exclude the District, where AmeriHealth Caritas DC and MedStar Family Choice DC serve Medicaid members.

Which Humana plans cover DC residents?

Humana’s Medicare Advantage families are Humana Gold Plus HMO plans, HumanaChoice PPO plans, Humana Choice private fee-for-service plans and special needs plans, with plan availability set county by county. Humana USAA Honor Giveback, a veteran-focused PPO, is listed for 46 states and DC in 2026 and added no-cost in-network mental health services that year.

Humana Medicare members in the District should read the plan’s Annual Notice of Change this fall. Humana is not renewing a group of Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, with nonrenewal notices due by October 2, 2026 and coverage in those plans ending December 31, 2026, and it has not published which counties are affected.

Does Humana Cover Inpatient Rehab in Washington, DC?

Yes. Medicare Part A covers inpatient mental health care in a general or psychiatric hospital, and Humana Medicare Advantage plans must cover at least what Original Medicare does, so Medicare inpatient rehab applies to District members. TRICARE covers inpatient substance use care and TRICARE residential rehab when medically necessary.

How long does Humana cover inpatient care for a DC member?

Humana’s Medicare materials name one hard limit: Medicare’s 190-day lifetime cap on care in a freestanding psychiatric hospital, a limit that applies only in freestanding psychiatric hospitals. Beyond that, a District member’s stay continues while it remains medically necessary, and TRICARE stays face concurrent review within 24 to 72 hours of an emergency admission.

Does Humana need prior authorization for rehab in the District?

Yes, for TRICARE East members, Humana Military requires prior authorization for nonemergency inpatient psychiatric and substance use admissions and for residential treatment centers, and it handles behavioral health referrals itself through its portal and 800-444-5445. Emergency admissions, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and opioid treatment programs go through concurrent review instead.

Does Humana Cover Detox in Washington, DC?

Yes. TRICARE lists detoxification, which it calls withdrawal management, among covered substance use services, and Original Medicare covers inpatient care that Humana Medicare Advantage plans must match. TRICARE detox programs and Medicare detox options are separate filters, which helps when a household has both kinds of coverage.

Does Humana Cover Outpatient Rehab in Washington, DC?

Yes. Medicare Part B covers outpatient therapy, counseling, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, family counseling and partial hospitalization, and TRICARE covers intensive outpatient and partial hospital care. Medicare IOP programs and TRICARE partial hospitalization are listed, and TRICARE Prime outpatient visits usually need no referral for non-active-duty members.

Medicare also covers mental health counseling by phone or video, and Humana says some Medicare Advantage plans charge nothing extra for that while others charge a copay. Humana Behavioral Health, the company’s own subsidiary once called LifeSynch, supports these benefits, and Medicare telehealth programs treat substance use remotely.

Does Humana Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in DC?

Yes. Opioid treatment program services appear as a covered benefit in Humana’s Medicare Advantage plan documents, and TRICARE covers medication-assisted treatment, office-based opioid treatment and opioid treatment programs. Part D drug coverage follows each plan’s formulary, and Humana notes that Part D plans must also cover antidepressants, anticonvulsants and antipsychotics, with limited exceptions.

Does Humana cover methadone in Washington, DC?

Yes. Methadone for opioid use disorder is delivered through opioid treatment programs, which Humana Medicare Advantage documents and TRICARE both cover, and Original Medicare charges no copay for those services after the Part B deductible. TRICARE methadone programs and methadone maintenance clinics show which District sites accept each card.

Does Humana cover Suboxone for District members?

Yes. Medicare pays for buprenorphine through enrolled opioid treatment programs and Part D may cover some prescriptions, while TRICARE covers office-based opioid treatment. Medicare Suboxone programs and TRICARE Suboxone providers appear as filters, and a member checks the tier on the plan’s own drug list.

Does Humana cover naltrexone in the District?

Yes. Medicare covers naltrexone with counseling and drug testing through enrolled opioid treatment programs, so Humana Medicare Advantage members in Washington have that route, and TRICARE lists medication-assisted treatment among covered services. Naltrexone treatment options can be filtered by the insurance each District program accepts.

Humana Rehab Centers by Anacostia Park, the Southwest Waterfront and Rock Creek

Humana’s Medicare and TRICARE rules are the same across the District, so the setting is a personal choice. Washington offers the long riverside stretch of Anacostia Park east of the river, the marinas of the Southwest Waterfront and Washington Channel, and the wooded valley of Rock Creek Park running toward Maryland.

Humana rehab near Anacostia Park

Anacostia Park runs along the east bank of the Anacostia River from the 11th Street bridges toward the Maryland line, with Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens at its northern end. River-adjacent rehab centers and Congress Heights treatment programs nearby take Humana Medicare Advantage on plan terms, and TRICARE families there use Humana Military for authorization.

Humana rehab near the Southwest Waterfront

The Southwest Waterfront and the Washington Channel marinas sit just below the National Mall, a short walk from Capitol Hill and the Navy Yard along the riverfront trail. Rehab programs near marinas and Capitol Hill drug rehabs follow the same Medicare coverage rules, and HMO members should confirm the program is in the plan network first.

Humana rehab near Rock Creek Park

Rock Creek Park reaches the District line near Takoma and Brightwood, where the park’s northern trails begin and the creek crosses into Montgomery County, Maryland. Takoma rehab options list the insurance they take, and HumanaChoice PPO members there may also use programs across the line in Maryland, usually at a higher cost than in network.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Humana in Washington, DC?

Browse the listings on this page. Each one is a District program that lists Humana, with the program’s phone number, levels of care and accreditation, and filters narrow results by neighborhood and treatment type. Rehabs that take Humana nationally have their own page, and Washington treatment programs are sorted by level of care.

Admission runs differently for each line. A Humana Medicare Advantage member’s program checks network status and any plan authorization through Humana Medicare Customer Care, while a TRICARE East program contacts Humana Military, which makes behavioral health authorization decisions itself. Medicare HMO plans generally need network providers except in emergencies.

Humana rehab in Downtown and Dupont Circle

Downtown and Dupont Circle hold many of the District’s offices, but Humana no longer sells employer coverage there, so its members in these areas are Medicare or TRICARE beneficiaries. Downtown rehab centers and programs in Dupont Circle show whether they take Humana Medicare.

Humana rehab in Brookland and Petworth

Brookland and Petworth are rowhouse neighborhoods in Wards 5 and 4, Brookland along the Red Line and Petworth along Georgia Avenue. Humana Medicare Advantage members there choose among HMO and PPO options, and Brookland rehab programs and Petworth recovery centers state their accepted Medicare plans.

Humana rehab in Anacostia and Deanwood

Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling sits along the Potomac in Ward 8, south of Anacostia, and Deanwood lies to the northeast in Ward 7. TRICARE families east of the river use Humana Military, and Anacostia addiction programs and Deanwood rehab centers list whether they accept TRICARE.

Can I use Humana for rehab outside Washington, DC?

Yes, depending on the plan. HumanaChoice PPO and USAA Honor Giveback PPO plans allow out-of-network providers who agree to treat the member, usually at higher cost, while Humana Gold Plus HMO plans need network providers except in emergencies. TRICARE East covers 24 states and the District, so Maryland and Virginia programs fall under the same region.

How much does rehab cost with Humana in DC?

The cost depends on the plan. Humana Medicare Advantage plans set their own copays for inpatient days and therapy visits, some with no-cost mental health visits, and Original Medicare charges nothing for opioid treatment program services after the Part B deductible. TRICARE costs depend on the plan option and beneficiary group.

Humana is one of several ways District residents pay for treatment. TRICARE rehab programs across the country are listed together, and veterans who also qualify for VA benefits can look at VA Community Care rehabs, since the Department of Veterans Affairs authorizes that care separately from Humana.
