Teen Rehab Centers in Georgia

Teen rehab in Georgia ranges from weekly outpatient counseling to intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and residential care built for adolescents. Programs are listed from metro Atlanta out to Augusta, Savannah, Columbus and Macon. Half of the state’s teen listings sit in towns rather than big cities, with 31% urban and 20% rural. A family in Gainesville or Covington may find adolescent care closer to home than downtown Atlanta.

The listings draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details sent in by the providers themselves. Use them to compare age ranges, levels of care, payment and family services, then call the programs that fit.

Common questions about Teen Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are teen rehabs in Georgia?

Teen rehab listings in Georgia are found in Covington, College Park, Gainesville, East Point and Dunwoody, in that order of clustering. Families can start by comparing programs in those places.

Larger cities nearby include Atlanta, Athens and South Fulton. Families based in any of them can compare programs in nearby towns and ask admissions teams about intake before making the trip.

Rehab Centers in Covingtonhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/georgia/covington-ga/
Is teen rehab covered by Georgia Medicaid?

Most of the teen rehabs in Georgia record accepting Georgia Medicaid. Coverage for young members usually runs through Georgia Families care management organizations such as Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. A parent can confirm with intake staff which plan a program accepts before an assessment is booked.

Rehab Centers in Georgia That Accept Georgia Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/georgia/georgia-medicaid/
Are there teen rehabs near a river in Georgia?

Most of the teen rehabs in Georgia are within 25 miles of a river, with a median of about 14.7 miles from listed facilities to the nearest one. The most-named rivers are the Dog River, the Yellow River and the Little Mulberry River.

River access varies from one program to the next. Families who care about the setting can ask the admissions team how close the nearest river is.

Can a teen get substance use treatment without a parent’s consent in Georgia?

Yes, a teen in Georgia can consent to treatment for a drug problem without a parent or guardian, because Georgia Code section 37-7-8 lets a minor who has, or says they have, such a problem agree to related medical care. The law sets no minimum age and covers care from a hospital, a public clinic or a licensed physician.

The same section allows the treating physician to inform a parent anyway, so a teen seeking help alone should ask at the first visit what will be shared. Federal privacy rules for treatment records also limit what a program can release without written permission, and intake staff can explain how those rules apply to a minor.

Programs outside those settings may use their own admission paperwork, so ask whether a guardian signature is needed. Wilderness camps and therapeutic boarding schools may run without any treatment license, which makes it worth asking what license a program holds and confirming it with the licensing office at the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Georgia Medicaid and the state’s children’s health coverage can pay for adolescent care at programs that accept them, and listings note the age range each program takes. School is another early question: ask whether a residential or day program offers classes or tutoring, and who will contact the teen’s school.

What can parents be told?

Federal privacy rules for substance use treatment records generally limit what a program can release without the patient’s written permission. Ask Georgia intake staff how those rules apply when the patient is a minor, which details parents will receive, and what the teen must sign before a school or court is contacted. A clear answer before admission helps avoid conflict later.

What kinds of treatment programs are there for teens in Georgia?

Georgia teen listings cover the same levels of care used for adults, adapted for adolescents. Each listing notes the age range a program accepts, and some take only older teens. Separate pages cover outpatient care, intensive outpatient programs, partial hospitalization, residential rehab and detox. Not every level is offered to teens in every region.

Level of careQuestion to ask
OutpatientAre sessions after school, and is family counseling included?
Intensive outpatientHow many hours a week, and what ages share a group?
Partial hospitalizationHow is schoolwork handled on program days?
ResidentialWhat license does the program hold, and how often can family visit?
DetoxDoes the program admit minors, and where does care continue afterward?

Family involvement and languages served also appear on listings. Families who need Spanish can start with Spanish-speaking programs in Georgia. Teens who also have anxiety, depression or trauma symptoms may want dual diagnosis care.

Georgia’s teen programs cluster toward the north and east side of metro Atlanta. DeKalb Peachtree Airport is the nearest airport for the largest share of listings, and the median distance to an airport is 24.8 miles. About 80% sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the Dog River. Roughly a quarter are within 25 miles of a named summit, most often Stone Mountain, and the median elevation is 890 feet.

Does Medicaid or CHIP pay for teen treatment in Georgia?

Georgia Medicaid and the state’s children’s coverage under CHIP can pay for teen treatment at programs that accept them. What a plan pays for depends on the plan and the service. Most Georgia Medicaid members are in Georgia Families, the managed care program. An undated state page lists Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan as its care management organizations. The plan lineup may have changed since then, so call the plan on the teen’s card to ask about adolescent services. Eligibility rules for children are set by the state, and the Georgia Medicaid office can explain how a household qualifies. The Medicaid page lists programs that take it.

Listings also show private insurance, self-pay and sliding fees. Families without coverage can look at state-funded rehab in Georgia. The Georgia Crisis and Access Line can help locate state-funded providers.

How can families tell whether a teen program in Georgia is licensed?

Ask the program for its Georgia license number and look it up with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. Since January 1, 2026, that department has licensed Drug Abuse Treatment and Education Programs under House Bill 584. The Department of Community Health handled this before then. Wilderness camps and therapeutic boarding schools may operate without a treatment license at all. Ask any such program what license it holds, whether its clinicians are licensed in Georgia, and how medical needs are handled. A listing on RehabSeekers.com does not mean a program is endorsed or ranked.

Will my teen keep up with school during treatment in Georgia?

Schooling depends on the program, so ask before admission whether a residential or partial hospitalization program offers classes, tutoring or coordination with the teen’s school. Some listings carry an education field. Where one is missing, ask the admissions team whether credits transfer and who contacts the school district. Ask how often family sessions happen and whether siblings can join.

Referral routes and crisis help

Georgia families often reach treatment through a school counselor, a pediatrician or a juvenile court. Georgia’s accountability courts work under the Council of Accountability Court Judges. The Georgia Crisis and Access Line, 1-800-715-4225, offers phone crisis help, mobile crisis, urgent appointments and help finding an open crisis or detox bed. If a teen talks about self-harm, call or text 988. If an overdose is suspected, call 911. Georgia’s medical amnesty law protects a person who seeks help in good faith from drug charges based only on that call.

Families can compare Georgia options here, browse teen rehab nationwide, or return to all Georgia listings. Call two or three programs and ask the same questions of each.
