Online Rehab and Telehealth in Georgia

Online rehab in Georgia means clinical addiction care delivered by video or phone. That can include counseling sessions, virtual intensive outpatient programs and, for some people, medication treatment prescribed during a telehealth visit. Georgia Medicaid has its own telehealth billing rules, and the state’s behavioral health department licenses treatment programs, so the details on this page are specific to Georgia.

The listings here draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and information the providers send us. RehabSeekers.com does not rank or recommend any program. Treat each listing as a starting point, and confirm services, insurance and fees with the admissions team.

Common questions about Telehealth Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Georgia cities have online rehab programs?

Georgia listings for online rehab cluster in Dunwoody, Statesboro, Cumming, Gainesville and Valdosta, the towns where providers offering telehealth sessions keep their registered offices. Each listing shows the city a provider names as its base.

Atlanta, Athens and Savannah are the larger cities nearby. An online program delivers counseling by video or phone, so a Georgia resident can look beyond the nearest town, provided the clinic holds a license covering patients in the state.

Rehab Centers in Statesborohttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/georgia/statesboro/
Can I use Georgia Medicaid for online rehab?

Most of the online rehab programs in Georgia record accepting Georgia Medicaid, so a member's coverage can often apply to virtual counseling and treatment sessions delivered by video or phone from home.

Coverage often runs through a Georgia Families care management organization. An undated state page names Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. Checking with the plan and the admissions team before a first session avoids surprise bills.

Rehab Centers in Georgia That Accept Georgia Medicaidhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/georgia/georgia-medicaid/
Are there online rehab programs near a river in Georgia?

Dog River, the Yellow River and the Little Mulberry River are the most-named rivers near Georgia listings for online rehab. Most of the online rehab programs in Georgia sit within 25 miles of a river, a median of about 14.5 miles from listed facilities. Sessions themselves happen online.

Rehab Centers Near Rivershttps://rehabseekers.com/attractions/rivers/

What does online addiction treatment look like in Georgia?

Online addiction treatment in Georgia is outpatient clinical care delivered over a secure video link, sometimes with phone check-ins between sessions. A plan may combine individual counseling, group therapy in a virtual intensive outpatient program, and visits with a prescriber who manages medication. Online peer support meetings, such as mutual-help groups on video, can sit alongside care. Those meetings are not treatment, and licensed clinicians do not run them. Programs with in-person groups are listed on IOP programs in Georgia, and the wider picture is on online rehab and telehealth.

Georgia telehealth listings still have a physical base, which matters if you later need to switch to office visits. Of these programs, 30 percent are in urban areas, 48 percent in towns and 22 percent in rural areas. Offices appear most often in Dunwoody, Statesboro, Cumming, Gainesville, Valdosta and Roswell. The median distance from a listed program to the nearest airport is 21.7 miles, and three in four sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the Dog River.

Georgia listings show accepted insurers, languages and populations served where the provider has supplied them. You can narrow the search to Spanish-speaking programs or to dual diagnosis care for co-occurring mental health conditions.

Technology and privacy basics

A Georgia telehealth session needs a stable internet connection, a phone or computer with a camera, and a private space where no one can overhear. Ask intake staff which platform the program uses and whether it is HIPAA-compliant. No platform removes every risk, so headphones and a closed door help.

Do online treatment providers need a Georgia license?

A clinician treating you by telehealth generally needs a license that covers Georgia, because you are in Georgia during the session. Programs need licenses too. Since January 1, 2026, the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) has licensed Drug Abuse Treatment and Education Programs and Narcotic Treatment Programs. House Bill 584 moved that role from the Department of Community Health.

To check a provider, ask the program for its DBHDD license, then ask for each clinician’s license number and look it up with the Georgia board for that profession. A provider whose clinicians hold licenses only in another state may not be able to treat you while you are in Georgia.

Does Georgia Medicaid or my insurance pay for telehealth addiction treatment?

Georgia Medicaid covers telemedicine for addiction care when the visit uses live audio and video together. The state’s telehealth guidance dated April 1, 2026 allows some audio-only services to be billed where appropriate, but it lists ordinary telephone conversations as non-covered. In DBHDD community behavioral health services, phone contacts do not count as telemedicine, though state guidelines allow them. Certified addiction counselors are among the practitioners who may bill for telemedicine.

Georgia has not adopted the ACA adult Medicaid expansion. Some adults with low incomes may qualify through Georgia Pathways to Coverage, which has work or activity requirements that change on January 1, 2027. More on payment is on the Medicaid rehab page.

How you payWhat to ask
Georgia Medicaid (Georgia Families plans)Whether your plan needs prior approval, and whether audio-only sessions are covered
MedicareWhether the program bills Medicare for telehealth, and what your share of the cost will be
Private insuranceWhich virtual providers are in network, and what copays apply
No insuranceWhether the program offers state-funded slots, sliding-scale fees or self-pay rates

Medicare and private plans set their own telehealth terms, so call the number on your card before the first session. Listings that take Medicare in Georgia or offer state-funded care are grouped separately.

Can I start medication for opioid use disorder through telehealth in Georgia?

Some Georgians with opioid use disorder can be prescribed buprenorphine through a telehealth visit. Federal rules on starting controlled medications without an in-person exam have been extended in stages and may change, so ask the prescriber which rule they follow. Also ask whether you will need an in-person visit or lab work later, and which pharmacy will fill the prescription. Georgia Medicaid’s telehealth guidance has no separate buprenorphine rule. Licensed opioid treatment programs dispense methadone, and DBHDD acts as the state opioid authority. Office-based options are on Suboxone clinics in Georgia.

Naloxone is worth keeping at home during opioid treatment. Georgia has a statewide standing order that lets pharmacies dispense naloxone to family members and friends, and the Georgia Overdose Prevention Project mails free kits.

When is in-person care the safer choice?

In-person or medically managed care is the safer choice when withdrawal could be dangerous, or when home is not a safe place to recover. Heavy daily alcohol or benzodiazepine use, past withdrawal seizures, pregnancy, and serious medical or mental health conditions are all good reasons to get an in-person assessment before choosing online care. The same applies to repeated return to use while in outpatient treatment. Medically supervised withdrawal is listed on detox in Georgia, and office-based programs are on outpatient rehab in Georgia.

Crisis options in Georgia

Help is available right away by call or text to 988. The Georgia Crisis and Access Line, 1-800-715-4225, offers phone crisis help and mobile crisis teams. The line can also help you find an open crisis or detox bed anywhere in the state, book an urgent appointment, or reach state-funded providers. In an emergency, call 911. All Georgia treatment types are on the Georgia rehab listings page.
