Treatment Centers in Kansas That Accept UnitedHealthcare

UnitedHealthcare covers drug and alcohol rehab in Kansas on four lines of business: employer plans, individual and family marketplace plans, Medicare plans including Dual Special Needs Plans, and KanCare through UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas. Optum Behavioral Health, a UnitedHealth Group company, manages the mental health and substance use benefit.

Each Kansas program below has its phone number, a summary of its care, which may mean a residential stay, withdrawal management, medication or intensive outpatient, and its CARF or Joint Commission status if any. The data is taken from government treatment registers and Kansas licensing records. Compare programs by town or service.

Does UnitedHealthcare Cover Rehab in Kansas?

Yes. Kansas members of UnitedHealthcare’s KanCare, marketplace, Medicare and employer plans are covered for substance use treatment, and the KanCare page says substance use treatment, behavioral therapy, medications and peer coaching are fully covered with no copay. Programs billing UnitedHealthcare rehab plans are among the Kansas addiction treatment centers listed here.

In Kansas, UnitedHealthcare runs as UnitedHealthcare Community Plan for KanCare and as UnitedHealthcare for employer, marketplace and Medicare members. Community Plan is one of three KanCare plans under state contracts that started January 1, 2025 and end December 31, 2027. Kansas is on the 2026 list of 30 states with UnitedHealthcare individual exchange plans, whose member line is 1-866-761-7748.

UnitedHealthcare also reaches Kansas employers through smaller-group products. All Savers Alternate Funding plans moved to UnitedHealthcare Level Funded from April 1, 2023, and Kansas was named in that migration. Surest plans, which UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company underwrites when fully insured, use the national UnitedHealthcare and Optum Behavioral Health networks with set copays.

Does UnitedHealthcare Cover Inpatient Rehab in Kansas?

Yes. UnitedHealthcare’s KanCare handbook lists inpatient substance use treatment with prior authorization, and Optum’s national manual covers inpatient, residential and residential detox levels where the plan includes them. One 2025 Choice Plus employer certificate covers inpatient substance use treatment for substance-related and addictive disorders, alongside residential treatment options under Optum’s rules.

How long will UnitedHealthcare pay for residential rehab?

UnitedHealthcare leaves residential length of stay to Optum, which uses The ASAM Criteria, Fourth Edition, rather than a fixed number of days. For KanCare members the state’s own placement rules apply as well, and for Medicare members Optum uses federal coverage determinations. Long-term rehab taking Medicaid and shorter stays are judged the same way.

Does UnitedHealthcare need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. Under Optum’s national manual, an inpatient admission must be authorized or reported to the plan within 24 hours, and residential care follows a similar rule. Programs treating KanCare members contact UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, whose member line is 1-877-542-9238, while programs treating employer and marketplace members call the number on the card, which routes to Optum.

Does UnitedHealthcare Cover Detox in Kansas?

Yes. UnitedHealthcare covers withdrawal management through Optum, whose ASAM-based decisions cover detox as its own level, from residential detox to ambulatory care. KanCare members in Kansas use medical detox taking Medicaid, while employer and marketplace members look for insurance-billed medical detox in their plan’s network.

Does UnitedHealthcare Cover Outpatient Rehab in Kansas?

Yes. Optum’s manual says most routine outpatient behavioral services and medication management need no prior authorization, and the plan’s 2020 KanCare handbook covers individual, group and family therapy without a primary care referral. Medicaid intensive outpatient programs and employer-plan partial hospitalization taking insurance both need authorization first.

UnitedHealthcare adds virtual tools for Kansas members: the Calm Health app and 24/7 UHC Doctor Chat visits for KanCare members, and video counseling under Optum’s telehealth rules for others. Optum requires a telehealth clinician to be licensed in Kansas when the member is in Kansas, which shapes virtual addiction counseling choices.

Does UnitedHealthcare Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes, though the drug list depends on the Kansas plan. KanCare members follow the state Preferred Drug List published by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, with OptumRx handling pharmacy. Employer members follow UnitedHealthcare’s commercial drug list, where acamprosate and disulfiram treatment taking insurance sit on Tier 1.

Does UnitedHealthcare cover Suboxone?

Yes. UnitedHealthcare’s commercial drug list effective September 1, 2026, a national list, places buprenorphine-naloxone film and tablets on Tier 2 and generic buprenorphine on Tier 1, each with a quantity limit and neither marked for prior authorization. For KanCare members at buprenorphine programs taking Medicaid, the KDHE drug list applies instead.

Does UnitedHealthcare cover methadone?

Yes, for KanCare and Medicare members. UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare plans, including its Kansas Dual Special Needs Plans, cover methadone through Medicare-enrolled opioid treatment programs, and KanCare covers it as medication assisted treatment. Methadone programs in Kansas serve employer members where the plan document includes it.

Does UnitedHealthcare cover naltrexone?

Yes. Oral naltrexone sits on Tier 1 of UnitedHealthcare’s national commercial drug list with a quantity limit, and Optum’s opioid treatment guide names naltrexone, buprenorphine and methadone with behavioral therapy as standard options. Oral naltrexone treatment is listed across Kansas, and the member’s plan decides the copay.

UnitedHealthcare Rehab Centers Near Smoky Hill Country Lakes and the Kansas River

UnitedHealthcare’s KanCare plan serves all 105 Kansas counties, so Medicaid members carry the same coverage to any lake or river town. Employer members depend on their network type instead: Choice Plus and Options PPO pay out-of-network programs at a lower level, while Choice and Core Essential pay network programs only.

UnitedHealthcare rehab near Kanopolis and Wilson lakes

UnitedHealthcare members in central Kansas live within reach of Kanopolis Lake on the Smoky Hill River in Ellsworth County and Wilson Lake in Russell County. Treatment centers near lakes in this region include downtown Salina programs, which KanCare members reach through the same authorization as anywhere else in the state.

UnitedHealthcare rehab along the Kansas River

UnitedHealthcare members along the Kansas River live in a corridor running from Junction City and Manhattan through Topeka and Lawrence to Kansas City. Kansas river rehab programs and downtown Lawrence treatment centers are listed, and for employer members the plan type decides what a non-network program is paid.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts UnitedHealthcare in Kansas?

Browse the listings on this page. Kansas programs here show a number to call, their services and credentials, and you can sort them by place, care type or payment. Medicaid residential rehab listings cover KanCare members, and a program’s admissions office knows whether it works with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan or an employer network.

For a hospital stay, residential bed, partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient slot, the program must get UnitedHealthcare’s authorization, asking Optum for commercial members or the KanCare plan for Medicaid members. The member can also call the number for their line below to ask about benefits. These numbers are for benefits and authorization, not for finding a program.

On January 1, 2026, UnitedHealthcare’s Optum stopped administering behavioral benefits for the Medica plans withdrawn in Kansas, and Medica’s Kansas City area marketplace plans end after 2026. Johnson County households leaving Medica will need another carrier, and UnitedHealthcare members use downtown Olathe rehab programs or Merriam treatment centers through Optum.

UnitedHealthcare rehab in Topeka

Every GEHA plan uses UnitedHealthcare’s Choice Plus network, so federal employees in Topeka and across Shawnee County with GEHA coverage reach programs through it. GEHA’s own number, 1-800-821-6136, handles benefits, and Optum Behavioral Health handles behavioral authorization for GEHA’s Elevate plans at Topeka drug rehab programs.

UnitedHealthcare rehab in Manhattan and Junction City

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum administers VA Community Care Network Region 2, which includes Kansas, so veterans near Manhattan and Junction City may reach community programs through it once the VA authorizes care. TRICARE for Fort Riley families runs through TriWest instead. Manhattan rehab options appear in the listings with their care levels.

UnitedHealthcare rehab in Dodge City and southwest Kansas

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan covers all 105 Kansas counties under KanCare, so Ford, Finney and Seward county members hold the same benefit as members in Wichita. KanCare members there call 1-877-542-9238 for authorization before admission to Dodge City addiction programs or a program farther east, with the NurseLine open at all hours.

Can I use UnitedHealthcare for rehab in a different state?

Yes, on employer plans with out-of-network or national network benefits, such as Choice Plus, Options PPO and Core. Choice, Core Essential and Select plans pay out of network only in emergencies. KanCare members need UnitedHealthcare Community Plan’s prior authorization for any non-emergency program outside its network, including one across the Missouri line.

How much does rehab cost with UnitedHealthcare?

UnitedHealthcare KanCare members pay no copay for covered care, hospital stays and prescriptions. Employer and marketplace members pay what their plan sets; one 2025 Choice Plus certificate from another state shows no network copay for substance use care and 20 percent coinsurance out of network. Surest plans use set copays with no deductible.

Kansans without UnitedHealthcare have other routes to paying for rehab. Those who qualify can compare plans under KanCare Medicaid plans, and listings also show state-funded outpatient rehab and other payment options by town. Each listing gives a phone number so admissions staff can explain what a program accepts before the first visit.
