Treatment Centers in Kentucky That Accept Wellcare

Wellcare covers drug and alcohol rehab in Kentucky through three plans: WellCare of Kentucky, the state’s largest Medicaid plan; Wellcare Medicare Advantage and drug plans; and Ambetter from WellCare of Kentucky on the marketplace. All three are Centene companies, and Centene has run Kentucky plans since 2006 with offices in Louisville, Lexington and Hazard.

Each listing below gives a program’s phone number and levels of care, such as inpatient detox, residential treatment or intensive outpatient, with Joint Commission or CARF accreditation shown where a program has it. These records come from Kentucky licensing rolls and federal treatment registers. Filter by city, service or substance to find programs that fit.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Does Wellcare Cover Rehab in Kentucky?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky’s enrollee handbook lists outpatient treatment, inpatient detox and stabilization, substance use residential treatment, medication-assisted treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and peer support among covered services, with telehealth as well. Rehabs that accept Wellcare appear among the Kentucky rehab programs listed here.

WellCare of Kentucky is one of five plans under Kentucky Medicaid managed care, serves every Medicaid region and holds a 2026-2027 renewal contract. It manages behavioral health in-house through its Behavioral Health Program rather than an outside vendor, so authorization and case management both run through WellCare itself.

Wellcare is Centene’s Medicare brand, and Kentucky is one of 32 states where Centene lists Wellcare Medicare Advantage, with dual special needs plans and Part D drug plans alongside. Ambetter from WellCare of Kentucky, underwritten by WellCare Health Plans of Kentucky, Inc., sells individual plans through kynect from a Louisville office.

Does Wellcare Cover Inpatient Rehab in Kentucky?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky covers short-term residential rehab for Medicaid and hospital-based substance use residential care, and the state’s August 2025 chart lists both among the services WellCare authorizes. Inpatient mental health and substance use admissions at hospital addiction programs also need WellCare’s authorization.

How long will Wellcare pay for residential rehab?

WellCare of Kentucky authorizes residential days according to ASAM Criteria assessments, which Kentucky requires of every Medicaid plan under its substance use waiver. The state measures residential care against a 30-day statewide average, a figure across all stays rather than a maximum, so WellCare can extend a stay when the assessment supports it.

Does Wellcare need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky requires prior authorization for inpatient mental health and substance use stays, substance use residential treatment, hospital residential care, crisis stabilization units, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization. Requests go to WellCare’s member and provider line, 1-877-389-9457, which the state lists as its behavioral health authorization number. Emergency services need no authorization.

Does Wellcare Cover Detox in Kentucky?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky’s handbook lists inpatient detox and stabilization as a covered substance use service, so hospital detox units and residential withdrawal management are both open to members. WellCare and Aetna are the two Kentucky Medicaid plans that authorize crisis stabilization unit stays in advance.

Does Wellcare Cover Outpatient Rehab in Kentucky?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky needs no referral for behavioral health services, so members can call an outpatient treatment program directly. Partial hospitalization taking Medicaid and intensive outpatient need WellCare’s prior authorization, and WellCare’s provider manual lists behavioral health services, including substance use and co-occurring care, at no copay.

WellCare of Kentucky does not require prior authorization for peer support and sets the highest annual threshold of any Kentucky Medicaid plan: 800 units, or about 200 hours, with a daily limit of eight units. Its Community Connections Help Line, 1-866-775-2192, links members to housing, food and other supports during recovery.

Does Wellcare Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky lists medication-assisted treatment as covered, and prescriptions run through MedImpact, Kentucky Medicaid’s pharmacy benefit manager, at 1-800-210-7628. WellCare differs from the other four Kentucky Medicaid plans in one respect: the state’s August 2025 chart shows that it requires prior authorization for medication treatment service codes.

Does Wellcare cover methadone?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky members get methadone clinic services through Kentucky Medicaid, which has covered methadone since July 1, 2019, and the clinic’s billed services are subject to WellCare’s authorization. Buprenorphine and Vivitrol were already Kentucky Medicaid benefits before methadone was added that year.

Does Wellcare cover Suboxone?

Yes. WellCare of Kentucky members fill Suboxone prescriptions under Kentucky Medicaid’s preferred drug list, which since July 2021 has not required prior authorization for buprenorphine-naloxone film or generic buprenorphine tablets. Subutex for Medicaid members and naltrexone for Medicaid members are covered through the same MedImpact pharmacy benefit, whose member line runs 24 hours a day.

Wellcare Rehab Centers Near Laurel River Lake, on Black Mountain and Along the Big South Fork

WellCare of Kentucky serves all Medicaid regions, from the Jackson Purchase to the Big Sandy, so members can choose treatment near a lake or in the mountains without leaving the plan. WellCare covers out-of-network care at no cost when no network provider is available, but only if it authorizes the care first, which matters in counties with few providers.

Wellcare rehab near Laurel River Lake

WellCare members in Laurel and Whitley counties live around Laurel River Lake, a deep reservoir in the Daniel Boone National Forest west of London and north of Corbin. Lakeside treatment options and downtown London programs may or may not be in WellCare of Kentucky’s network, and a residential request from there goes to the same statewide authorization line.

Wellcare rehab near Black Mountain

WellCare members in Harlan County live below Black Mountain, Kentucky’s highest point, on the Virginia line above the old coal towns of Lynch, Benham and Cumberland. Rehab programs in mountain areas and treatment options in Harlan serve the county, and Hazard, to the north, is the nearest town with a Kentucky office listed by Centene.

Wellcare rehab along the Big South Fork

WellCare members in McCreary County live along the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River, which cuts a gorge south of Whitley City toward Tennessee. Treatment near rivers and programs in Whitley City serve the area, and Kentucky Medicaid’s regional transportation brokers arrange rides to covered services for members without suitable free transport.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Wellcare in Kentucky?

Browse the listings on this page. Wellcare, in one of its Kentucky forms, is taken by every program shown. Narrow the list by town and service; each program’s page has its direct line, the care it provides and any accrediting body. Say whether you have WellCare of Kentucky Medicaid, Wellcare Medicare or Ambetter, since each has its own network.

WellCare must authorize a residential bed, a hospital stay, a day program, intensive outpatient and even medication treatment services before they start, and the program normally asks on the member’s behalf. Out-of-network care is covered only when authorized first. The lines below handle authorization, benefits and crisis help, not the choice of a program.

Wellcare rehab in Bowling Green

Warren County and Barren River area residents enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid can look at Wellcare’s dual special needs plans, reached at 1-833-444-9089, while WellCare of Kentucky Medicaid members there call 1-877-389-9457. Bowling Green rehab centers are listed for south-central Kentucky.

Can I use Wellcare for rehab in a different state?

Only with authorization, for WellCare of Kentucky members: the plan covers out-of-network care when no network provider is available and WellCare authorizes it first, and emergency care needs no authorization. Wellcare Medicare and Ambetter members follow their own plan’s network rules, which differ from the Medicaid plan.

How much does rehab cost with Wellcare?

Nothing, for WellCare of Kentucky members: WellCare’s 2026 provider manual lists behavioral health services at no copay, and Kentucky regulation bars Medicaid copayments. Wellcare Medicare and Ambetter members pay the copays, coinsurance and deductibles in their own plan documents, which vary by plan and county, so the plan’s summary of benefits is the place to look before admission.

WellCare of Kentucky is one of five Kentucky Medicaid plans, alongside Aetna Better Health of Kentucky, Humana Healthy Horizons in Kentucky, Passport by Molina Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, and each facility page lists the payers that program works with. Rehabs taking Medicaid and Medicaid-funded treatment are listed separately.
