Treatment Centers in Louisiana That Accept Healthy Louisiana

Healthy Louisiana, the Louisiana Department of Health’s Medicaid program, routes drug and alcohol rehab through whichever health plan a member picks: Aetna Better Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Healthy Blue, Humana Healthy Horizons or Louisiana Healthcare Connections. Healthy Blue’s contract ends on December 31, 2026, so four plans carry members into 2027.

Each Healthy Louisiana listing here carries the program’s phone number, which levels of care it runs, whether withdrawal management, residential beds or outpatient groups, and CARF or Joint Commission accreditation when held. Entries are drawn from federal and state treatment registers and Louisiana Department of Health licensing data. Sort by parish or service and call the program to learn which plans it bills.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Healthy Louisiana Cover Rehab in Louisiana?

Yes. Healthy Louisiana lists substance use disorder treatment and opioid treatment programs as covered specialized behavioral health services, and the Louisiana Department of Health moved that care into its managed care plans in December 2015. Adults have no separate behavioral health carve-out, so the plan on the card pays for rehab centers across Louisiana.

Louisiana’s Medicaid program is run by the Bureau of Health Services Financing within the Louisiana Department of Health, while the Office of Behavioral Health monitors the plans’ behavioral health work. Louisiana expanded Medicaid on July 1, 2016, for adults 19 to 64 up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. LaCHIP covers uninsured children under 19.

Which Healthy Louisiana plans cover rehab in 2026 and 2027?

Five Healthy Louisiana plans cover rehab through 2026: Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Healthy Blue, Humana Healthy Horizons in Louisiana and Louisiana Healthcare Connections. UnitedHealthcare Community Plan left on March 31, 2026. Healthy Blue members choose a new plan from October 15 to November 16, 2026, or are assigned one before January 1, 2027.

Does Healthy Louisiana Cover Inpatient Rehab in Louisiana?

Yes. Louisiana Medicaid’s addiction services manual covers residential rehab programs at ASAM levels 3.1, 3.3 (adults only) and 3.5, plus medically monitored inpatient treatment at level 3.7. Adolescents, defined as members 20 and under, use separate residential programs, and every residential provider must offer medications for addiction treatment on site or arrange them nearby.

How long will Healthy Louisiana pay for residential rehab?

Healthy Louisiana keeps paying for a residential stay while the member’s plan judges it medically necessary by ASAM standards. Under the state’s Substance Use Disorder 1115 Demonstration, Medicaid can also cover time in institutions larger than 16 beds past the usual 15-day federal limit, and CMS extended it on December 2, 2022 through December 31, 2027.

Does Healthy Louisiana need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes, in most cases. The Medicaid addiction services manual makes these services subject to prior approval, and each Healthy Louisiana plan sets its own list within Louisiana Department of Health rules. Placement rests on a bio-psychosocial assessment and ASAM six-dimension risk evaluation by a licensed mental health professional, and the level of care can be revisited during the stay.

Does Healthy Louisiana Cover Detox in Louisiana?

Yes. Healthy Louisiana covers Medicaid medical detox programs at four withdrawal management levels: ambulatory detox (2-WM), social detox (3.2-WM), medically monitored detox for adults (3.7-WM) and hospital-based detox (4-WM). The 1115 Demonstration also lets Medicaid pay for withdrawal management in larger facilities, which widens the choice of detox beds.

Does Healthy Louisiana Cover Outpatient Rehab in Louisiana?

Yes. Healthy Louisiana covers outpatient addiction treatment at ASAM level 1 and intensive outpatient programs for Medicaid at level 2.1, with a required family component. Assessments, psychotherapy and medication management may be done by telehealth, and peer support services are covered for members 21 and older when a licensed professional advises them.

Does Healthy Louisiana Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Every Healthy Louisiana plan, along with the fee-for-service track, fills prescriptions from one shared statewide Preferred Drug List instead of a plan formulary. Every substance use provider must teach members about FDA-listed medication options, so medications for addiction treatment are part of care at each level, from outpatient counseling to residential stays.

Does Healthy Louisiana cover Suboxone?

Yes. Healthy Louisiana covers Suboxone rehab that takes Medicaid under its opiate dependence agents rules. For a non-preferred product the prescriber files the state’s uniform prescription prior authorization form, and approval lasts four months for single-ingredient buprenorphine, six months during pregnancy. Buprenorphine given in an opioid treatment program is paid as a bundled service plus the drug.

Does Healthy Louisiana cover methadone?

Yes. Healthy Louisiana plans added methadone clinic treatment on January 20, 2020, paid as one bundled rate covering dosing, counseling, drug testing, exams and case management. Louisiana Healthcare Connections’ 2021 policy, as one plan example, sets eligibility at 18 and older with at least a year of opioid use disorder, and state rules bar telehealth for the admission visit.

Does Healthy Louisiana cover Vivitrol and naltrexone?

Yes, through the same Preferred Drug List rules. The Louisiana Department of Health’s opiate dependence criteria name naltrexone extended-release injection, so Vivitrol programs taking Medicaid may need the uniform prior authorization form when the product is non-preferred. Approvals for these agents run six months before renewal.

Healthy Louisiana Rehab Centers on the Gulf Coast, Along the Mississippi and in Kisatchie National Forest

Healthy Louisiana plans cover the whole state, so a member on the Gulf coast or in the pine hills of central Louisiana uses the same plan benefits as one in New Orleans. What changes by place is the regional human services district, which runs state-funded care and sets the local crisis and intake routes.

Healthy Louisiana rehab near the Gulf coast

Gulf coast members on Healthy Louisiana live in Jefferson Parish, home to Grand Isle, and in Cameron Parish, where Holly Beach faces the Gulf. Gulf-side rehab programs and treatment programs in Houma fall under the Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority, the Imperial Calcasieu authority or the South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority.

Healthy Louisiana rehab along the Mississippi River

River parishes between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, including Ascension, Iberville, St. James and St. John the Baptist, split between the Capital Area Human Services District and the South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority. Rehabs near rivers and rehab options in Donaldsonville take any Healthy Louisiana plan that holds a contract with them.

Healthy Louisiana rehab near Kisatchie National Forest

Kisatchie National Forest spreads across central and north Louisiana, around Alexandria, Pineville, Winnfield and Natchitoches. Most programs near national forests there fall to the Central Louisiana Human Services District, whose eight parishes include Rapides, Grant, Vernon and Winn, while Natchitoches Parish belongs to the Northwest district. Rehab programs in Alexandria sit near the forest’s southern units.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Healthy Louisiana in Louisiana?

Browse the listings on this page for Louisiana programs taking Healthy Louisiana, and narrow them by city, level of care or substance treated. The program’s own number sits on each entry, so the first call goes there, and Medicaid rehab programs nationwide sit on a separate page.

Healthy Louisiana admission to residential, inpatient or intensive outpatient care starts with the member’s plan, which authorizes those levels. A program found here sends the request with its assessment, or the member calls the plan’s line. Regional districts below offer state-funded services free to Louisiana residents and aim to admit pregnant women and people who inject drugs within 48 hours.

Healthy Louisiana’s Region 1 district, Metropolitan Human Services District, covers Orleans, St. Bernard and Plaquemines, while Jefferson Parish has its own authority, the only single-parish region in the state. Aetna Better Health of Louisiana is based in Kenner, and Louisiana Healthcare Connections lists crisis response services in Greater New Orleans and Jefferson Parish near New Orleans recovery programs.

Healthy Louisiana rehab in Baton Rouge and the capital region

Healthy Louisiana is run from Baton Rouge, where the Louisiana Department of Health sits at 628 N. 4th Street. Capital Area Human Services District serves seven parishes, from East Baton Rouge to Pointe Coupee and the Felicianas, and members there reach treatment centers in Baton Rouge and Denham Springs rehab programs across the Livingston Parish line.

Healthy Louisiana rehab in Shreveport, Bossier City and Monroe

Healthy Louisiana members in the northwest corner use the Northwest Louisiana Human Services District, whose nine parishes include Caddo and Bossier, and Louisiana Healthcare Connections lists Shreveport among its crisis response areas. Northeast Delta Human Services Authority covers twelve parishes around Monroe, which link to rehab centers in Shreveport and treatment options in Monroe.

Healthy Louisiana rehab in Lafayette and Lake Charles

Healthy Louisiana members in Acadiana fall under the Acadiana Area Human Services District, which covers seven parishes from Acadia to Vermilion. Calcasieu, Cameron and three neighboring parishes use the Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority in Lake Charles, and both regions lead to Lafayette addiction treatment centers and Lake Charles rehab facilities.

Can I use Healthy Louisiana for rehab in a different parish?

Yes. Healthy Louisiana plans are reported statewide, with no regional split in the Louisiana Department of Health’s enrollment reports, so a member in Monroe can use a contracted residential program in Lafayette. Members may also change plans up to twice a year, which helps when a chosen program contracts with a different plan.

How much does rehab cost with Healthy Louisiana?

Little or nothing. Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, for one, charges no copays for covered behavioral health services, and AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana’s pharmacy page shows small copays that rise with the drug’s price and stop at 5 percent of family income. Pregnancy, age under 21 or Native American status removes the copay, and residential rates exclude room and board.

Healthy Louisiana work requirements begin with the new year in 2027 for adults 19 to 64 without young children or serious medical conditions, and anyone in substance use treatment is exempt. Members without coverage can turn to state-funded rehab programs through the regional districts, and plan choice runs through the enrollment line, 1-855-229-6848, or Louisiana Medicaid at 1-888-342-6207.
