Treatment Centers in Maine That Accept Cigna

Cigna pays for drug and alcohol rehab in Maine mainly through employer plans, with behavioral health run by its sister company Evernorth Behavioral Health. Cigna sells no Maine marketplace, MaineCare or Medicare plans, but since September 2026 its PPO network has also served members on Community Health Options National plans when they need care outside New England.

Entries on this page are built from government treatment registers and Maine licensing data. A Cigna member can see each program’s phone number, levels of care and any accreditation held from The Joint Commission or CARF. Filter by city or level of care, then call the program with the Cigna card ready so it can ask Evernorth about authorization.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Does Cigna Cover Rehab in Maine?

Yes. Cigna covers substance use treatment for Maine members on its employer plans, listing inpatient and outpatient treatment with follow-up case management as part of the benefit. A member looking for Portland drug rehab programs or care farther north pays their share under the plan’s own deductible, since Cigna’s employer plans carry no separate behavioral health deductible.

Cigna Healthcare reaches Maine through employers using the national Open Access Plus and PPO networks, and Cigna Healthcare plans hand behavioral health to Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc., which reports operations in all 50 states. Trustmark small business plans and Allegiance, a Cigna subsidiary that administers self-funded employer plans, also bring Cigna network access to some Maine workplaces.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Maine?

Yes, with authorization. Cigna’s behavioral FAQ lists detoxification, inpatient treatment and residential treatment as facility-based care, and its substance use guide describes inpatient acute care after detox. Residential treatment centers and residential rehab with insurance both fall under Evernorth’s authorization grid for Maine members, whatever the employer’s plan design.

Cigna also names behavioral Centers of Excellence in four categories, one of them substance use, for facilities that meet its own standards on care and cost. The designation is a Cigna label rather than a network status, so a Maine member still asks Evernorth whether a given program is in network and what the plan pays there.

Does Cigna need prior authorization for residential rehab in Maine?

Yes. Evernorth Behavioral Health’s grid requires authorization for substance use inpatient or rehab stays, inpatient detoxification and residential treatment, including dual diagnosis residential care. The process starts with a face-to-face assessment by the facility’s staff, who then call the number on the back of the member’s card with clinical information. Evernorth applies The ASAM Criteria to those reviews.

What do Cigna plan documents say about unauthorized admissions?

Cigna plan documents from other states show what happens without authorization. A 2025 Tennessee small group Open Access Plus plan requires pre-authorization on all inpatient admissions, and a 2026 Arizona small group HMO denies benefits for any admission that is not certified after review. Maine employer plans set their own wording, so the plan certificate governs.

Does Cigna Cover Detox in Maine?

Yes. Cigna’s substance use guide describes two detox levels for its members: ambulatory detox, which needs no authorization on Evernorth’s grid, and inpatient detox with 24-hour medical care, which does. Insurance-covered medical detox and outpatient detox programs both appear in the filters, so a Maine member can see which setting a program offers before calling.

Does Cigna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Maine?

Yes. Cigna’s guide describes intensive outpatient with insurance as three to five days a week for three to four hours a day, and partial hospitalization as five to seven days a week for six to eight hours. Whether either needs authorization depends on the plan, so Evernorth lists both as call to check.

Routine outpatient psychotherapy, family and group therapy, diagnostic evaluations and medication management need no authorization from Evernorth, so weekly counseling can begin at once. Cigna’s stated access standards are urgent appointments within 48 hours and routine ones within 10 working days, and telehealth addiction treatment through MDLIVE, Talkspace and other partners helps members in rural Maine.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications in Maine?

Yes. Cigna ended prior authorization for buprenorphine-based medications for opioid use disorder in October 2016, in a settlement described as national for commercial plans. Express Scripts, part of Evernorth, runs the pharmacy benefit, and Cigna’s Standard 3-Tier list places buprenorphine-naloxone and acamprosate on Tier 1, with brand Suboxone on Tier 3.

Does Cigna cover Suboxone in Maine?

Yes. Evernorth’s grid lists buprenorphine induction as an outpatient service that needs no authorization, and generic buprenorphine-naloxone sits on the lowest tier of Cigna’s standard drug list. Suboxone with insurance costs depend on the employer’s drug list, and Cigna made no 2026 changes for buprenorphine, Suboxone, Zubsolv, Vivitrol or naltrexone.

Does Cigna cover methadone in Maine?

Yes. Evernorth lists methadone as a provider-administered outpatient service that needs no authorization, so a Maine member’s methadone treatment program can bill Cigna under the plan’s behavioral benefit. Employer programs also include opioid disorder management and narcotics therapy management, which some Maine employers add to their Cigna plan.

Cigna Rehab Centers by the Lakes, in the North Woods and Near the Harbors

Cigna’s Maine coverage is the same in every county because it rides on the employer’s national network rather than a Maine service area. The setting shapes the trip and the program’s levels of care, not the benefit, so a lakeside residential program needs the same Evernorth authorization as one in a city.

Cigna rehab near the lakes

Maine’s large lakes run from Sebago Lake in Cumberland County to Moosehead Lake in Piscataquis County and the Belgrade Lakes near Augusta. Rehab centers near lakes and Bridgton treatment programs near Long Lake accept Cigna employer plans on each plan’s network and out-of-network terms, and the same Evernorth review applies there.

Cigna rehab in the North Woods

The North Woods cover Piscataquis and northern Penobscot counties, from Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville to Millinocket and the edge of Baxter State Park. Rehabs near wilderness areas and Millinocket recovery services are far from most networks’ larger hubs, which makes Cigna’s virtual behavioral network useful for counseling and follow-up care after discharge.

Cigna rehab near the harbors

Working harbors line the Midcoast, from Bath and Boothbay to Rockland and Camden. Rehabs near marinas and harbors and Bath recovery programs can take Cigna Open Access Plus and PPO plans in network or out of network, while lock-in LocalPlus and SureFit designs limit or drop out-of-network coverage.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Cigna in Maine?

Browse the listings on this page. Programs shown list Cigna or private insurance, and the filters narrow them by town, level of care and medication. Each listing gives the facility’s phone number, so the program can confirm network status directly, and programs taking Evernorth are listed on a separate page.

Admission runs through Evernorth for inpatient, residential and inpatient detox care. The facility assesses the member and calls the behavioral number on the card; Cigna’s behavioral health benefits line, (800) 433-5768, is open around the clock. General Cigna customer service is (800) 997-1654, TTY 711, and Health Options members call (855) 624-6463.

Cigna rehab in Portland and Westbrook

Cumberland County employers that buy Cigna usually choose Open Access Plus or PPO, both with no primary care referral and with out-of-network benefits. Members weighing Westbrook rehab centers or South Portland treatment can ask Evernorth whether a program is in network before the first visit, which keeps the cost at the in-network level.

Cigna rehab in Lewiston and Auburn

Lewiston is home to Community Health Options, whose National plans have used Cigna’s PPO network and Evernorth’s behavioral network for care outside New England since September 1, 2026. Inside Maine those members still use the Health Options network. Lewiston treatment centers and downtown Lewiston programs list the plans they take.

Cigna rehab in Bangor and Brewer

Penobscot County small businesses on Trustmark Small Business Benefits plans may have the Cigna PPO network, one of the two networks Trustmark offers in Maine. Cigna rehab in Kittery and York near New Hampshire

Southern York County sits on the New Hampshire line, so Cigna members there often weigh programs on both sides of the Piscataqua River. Open Access Plus and PPO plans cover network providers in either state, because the network is national. Kittery recovery programs take Cigna employer plans on those terms.

Can I use Cigna for rehab outside Maine?

Yes, on most employer plans. Open Access Plus and PPO plans use a large national network and include out-of-network coverage, and Health Options National plan members reach Cigna’s national network through their own plan. Inpatient and residential care out of state still needs Evernorth authorization before admission, the same as a stay in Maine.

How much does rehab cost with Cigna in Maine?

Costs depend on the employer’s plan. Across Cigna plan documents, outpatient therapy is usually a flat copay outside the deductible, while inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care fall under coinsurance after the deductible. Where an employer buys the Cigna EAP, it gives up to 12 no-cost counseling sessions per issue.

Cigna is one route to treatment in Maine among several, alongside MaineCare, Medicare, the federal employee plans and other private insurers. Rehab centers throughout Maine are listed below by level of care, and programs that also take MaineCare and Medicaid are marked on each facility page.
