Treatment Centers in Maryland That Accept Aetna

Aetna members in Maryland have drug and alcohol rehab coverage on employer plans and on the federal and postal plans Aetna administers, while Aetna Better Health of Maryland, its statewide HealthChoice plan, sends members to Carelon Behavioral Health for addiction treatment. Aetna CVS Health individual plans sold on Maryland Health Connection ended after 2025.

Every Maryland program below comes with a phone number, the care it runs (detox, a residential stay, intensive outpatient or medication) and a note on any CARF or Joint Commission accreditation. The entries come from government treatment registers and Maryland’s own licensing records. You can narrow the results by town or level of care.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Does Aetna Cover Rehab in Maryland?

Yes, though who pays depends on the Aetna card. On a Maryland employer plan, Aetna pays for the levels of treatment the employer’s plan includes, and its consumer site counts substance use as one of the conditions its behavioral benefits address. You can find Aetna-accepting rehab programs mixed in with other addiction treatment programs in Maryland below.

Aetna Better Health of Maryland members are in a different position. Aetna applied in 2016 to run a HealthChoice plan and now enrolls Medicaid members in every county, but its own coverage page says mental health and substance use benefits moved to Carelon on January 1, 2025. Carelon, at 1-800-888-1965, is the contact for any rehab admission.

Does Aetna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Maryland?

Yes, on employer plans that include it. Under Aetna’s rules, a stay in an addiction facility or residential center counts as an inpatient confinement, and one Choice POS II employer document from 2026 covers inpatient addiction treatment at semi-private rates. Aetna Better Health members get long-term rehab taking Medicaid from the state.

How long will Aetna pay for residential rehab?

Aetna employer plans in Maryland set no published day count for residential rehab; each continued stay depends on ASAM Criteria reviews. For Aetna Better Health of Maryland members, Maryland’s own waiver rules apply instead, and a Carelon provider manual chapter from 2017-18 for one residential level allows authorizations of up to 30 days at a time.

Does Aetna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. Every Aetna inpatient or residential admission, and any partial hospitalization program, has to be precertified on commercial and Medicare coverage; the commercial line is 1-888-632-3862. A Maryland member using an out-of-network program arranges it, not the facility. The list does not apply to federal employee or Traditional Choice plans, and Aetna Better Health admissions go to Carelon.

Does Aetna Cover Detox in Maryland?

Yes. Detox in a hospital or facility bed is precertified like any Aetna inpatient stay, while outpatient detox programs have been off its commercial precertification list since January 1, 2019. Aetna Better Health of Maryland members reach medicaid medical detox programs through Carelon, except detox on a general hospital bed, which the plan itself pays.

Does Aetna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Maryland?

Yes. Aetna members can see a counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist in its outpatient network, and Aetna names Maryland among the states where MinuteClinic offers in-person mental health visits inside CVS stores for commercial members. Intensive outpatient programs with insurance need no Aetna precertification, a rule unchanged since 2019.

Aetna still precertifies partial hospitalization treatment for employer plan members. Aetna Better Health of Maryland members get outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization from the state, and an intensive outpatient program there has three calendar days after admission to file with Carelon.

Does Aetna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes, but the payer differs by plan. Aetna employer plans cover addiction medications on the drug list CVS Caremark runs for that employer, searchable by plan name on Aetna’s medication page. For Aetna Better Health of Maryland members, Maryland pays these drugs fee-for-service outside the plan’s formulary, under the state’s Preferred Drug List rules.

Does Aetna cover Suboxone?

Yes. Aetna stopped requiring advance approval for buprenorphine, Suboxone included, on its commercial business in March 2017, which lets Suboxone treatment with insurance start quickly. Maryland’s January 2026 Medicaid medication list covers Suboxone, Zubsolv, Sublocade and Brixadi for Aetna Better Health members through the state pharmacy program.

Does Aetna cover methadone?

Yes, for Aetna Better Health of Maryland members; Maryland Medicaid pays for their methadone clinic visits outside the plan. Aetna Medicare members get methadone maintenance programs through Medicare-enrolled opioid treatment programs. Employer members should ask Aetna whether a given clinic bills their plan.

Does Aetna cover naltrexone?

Yes, on most drug lists. Maryland’s Medicaid medication list includes naltrexone tablets and the Vivitrol injection for Aetna Better Health members, plus acamprosate and disulfiram for alcohol use disorder. Employer members can search naltrexone treatment options and look up the tier on their own Caremark formulary before starting.

Aetna Rehab Centers Near the Ocean City Beaches, the Potomac River and Deep Creek Lake

Aetna has no county map in Maryland: Aetna Better Health enrolls members statewide and employer networks are national. Picking the shore or the mountains changes the drive, not the coverage, though HMO and EPO members stay inside the network unless it is an emergency. POS and PPO members may go outside it if they pay more.

Aetna rehab near the Ocean City beaches

Aetna members drawn to Worcester County’s coast, from Ocean City south to Assateague Island, can search beachside rehab programs and treatment options in Berlin, just inland. Aetna Better Health of Maryland enrolls members in Worcester as it does in every county, and Carelon handles their authorization from the same statewide line.

Aetna rehab along the Potomac River

Aetna members along the Potomac live in Montgomery County, Washington County and the Cumberland area, where the river forms the Virginia and West Virginia line. Riverside treatment centers and rehab programs in Cumberland may sit near another state, so it is worth asking a program across the river whether it holds an Aetna contract for your plan.

Aetna rehab near Deep Creek Lake

Aetna members looking at Garrett County, where Deep Creek Lake lies near McHenry and Oakland, can browse lakeside rehab centers. An admission in western Maryland is precertified by Aetna just as a Baltimore one is, and Aetna Better Health members there still call Carelon at 1-800-888-1965, the same number used in Baltimore.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Aetna in Maryland?

Browse the listings on this page. Aetna is accepted at each program shown, and the filters work by town, care level and insurer. A listing tells you how to call and what accreditation the program holds. Before you go, ask admissions if the program is part of your plan’s network or, if you have Aetna Better Health, registered with Carelon.

Aetna admission for employer plan members starts with precertification for inpatient, residential or partial hospitalization care, which the program requests with clinical details. Aetna Better Health of Maryland members go straight to Carelon instead of the plan. The table lists which Aetna lines still run in Maryland in 2026 and the number for each.

Aetna Better Health of Maryland’s 24-hour member line, 1-866-827-2710, handles medical questions for Baltimore City members, but a request to enter treatment goes to Carelon. Employer plan members in the city reach programs through Aetna’s network instead, from rehab centers in Baltimore to Federal Hill treatment programs.

Aetna rehab in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County

Aetna members in Anne Arundel County who held Aetna CVS Health individual plans in 2024 or 2025 needed a new Maryland Health Connection carrier for 2026, since that line closed in all 17 of its states. Employer and Medicaid members keep their coverage for rehab options in Glen Burnie and Annapolis treatment centers.

Aetna rehab in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties

Postal and federal workers in the Maryland suburbs of Washington may hold the Mail Handlers or Rural Carrier plan, both run by Aetna. Mail Handlers uses Aetna’s Choice POS II network and also pays non-network care, which widens the choice among Rockville addiction treatment and rehab programs in Hyattsville.

Aetna rehab in Waldorf and Southern Maryland

Small businesses in Charles and St. Mary’s counties with at least five workers can buy level-funded Trustmark plans that may run on Aetna’s Signature Administrators network. Workers on those plans phone Trustmark, 800-522-1246, ahead of any stay at one of the Waldorf rehab centers.

Can I use Aetna for rehab in a different state?

Yes, for many Aetna employer members, since Aetna’s network is nationwide and POS or PPO designs also cover programs outside it, with a bigger share for the member. HMO and EPO members get out-of-network coverage only in emergencies. Aetna Better Health of Maryland members keep Medicaid residential coverage at private programs in D.C. and the bordering states.

How much does rehab cost with Aetna?

Aetna Better Health of Maryland members pay no copays for covered services, and the plan’s page names prescriptions as the one exception. On employer coverage, what a member owes is set by the plan: Aetna plan summaries show a set copay per office visit, coinsurance once the deductible is met for a stay, and more out of network.

Aetna is one payer among many for Maryland rehab programs. Your HR department holds the Aetna plan document for your job, and anyone who lost an Aetna individual plan may now qualify for other coverage. Sliding scale rehab programs and Medicaid-funded treatment options are listed as well.
