Men's Rehab Centers in Massachusetts

Men’s rehab in Massachusetts includes programs that admit only men and programs that run a separate men’s track, from detox to outpatient counseling and recovery housing. These listings draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details providers supply about their own services.

Most men’s programs in Massachusetts sit in town settings, about two in three. About one in four are in urban areas, and fewer than one in ten are in rural places. Worcester, Roxbury Crossing in Boston, Fall River and Pittsfield come up most often among program locations.

Common questions about Men's Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Massachusetts cities have men's rehabs?

Worcester comes first among the places where men's rehab listings cluster in Massachusetts, followed by Roxbury Crossing, Fall River, Pittsfield and Lowell. Boston and Lowell are the other larger cities nearby, so men living elsewhere in the state may compare options there as well as in Worcester before choosing a program.

Rehab Centers in Worcesterhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/massachusetts/worcester/
Do men's rehabs in Massachusetts take MassHealth?

Nearly all of the men's rehabs in Massachusetts record accepting MassHealth, which pays through the plan a member is enrolled in, such as WellSense Essential MCO or the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership. Admissions teams can usually confirm whether a given program is in that plan's network.

Rehab Centers in Massachusetts That Accept MassHealthhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/massachusetts/masshealth/
Are there men's rehabs near a river in Massachusetts?

Nearly all of the men's rehabs in Massachusetts are within 25 miles of a river, with a median of about 2.4 miles from listed facilities to the nearest one. Among nearby rivers, the Muddy River, Middle River and Whitman River are named most frequently.

Travel time, family visiting rules and payment options are more practical to weigh than nearby water, and admissions staff can usually answer each of those questions.

What types of men-only treatment are available in Massachusetts?

Men-only treatment in Massachusetts is available at several levels, from medically supported withdrawal to residential stays, day programs, outpatient counseling and recovery housing. A listing for men may mean a men-only program, or a separate men’s group, unit or house inside a provider that serves all genders, so ask how much of the schedule is men-only.

Start with the Massachusetts pages for detox, residential rehab and intensive outpatient programs, then look for men’s services in each listing. Some describe separate tracks, such as groups for veterans, fathers, men with court cases or men coming home from incarceration, so ask about the track you need by name.

Recovery housing is shared alcohol- and drug-free living, not clinical treatment on its own. Massachusetts runs a voluntary certification for these homes through the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing, and only certified homes can receive referrals from state agencies and the vendors they contract with, so ask whether a house holds that certification.

Payment can come from MassHealth, a private plan, TRICARE, state-funded services or a sliding fee, as each program allows. Before committing, ask about the accepted age range, whether transgender and nonbinary men are admitted, whether withdrawal is medically supported on site, and whether medications for opioid use disorder are started or continued.

Level of careWhat it usually means
DetoxMedically monitored withdrawal, usually a few days, often followed by another level
ResidentialLive-in treatment with daily groups and counseling
Partial hospitalization (PHP)Most of the day in treatment, home or housing at night
Intensive outpatient (IOP)Several sessions a week, a few hours each
OutpatientScheduled counseling, often weekly
Recovery residenceShared alcohol- and drug-free housing, not clinical treatment on its own

How can you tell if a men’s program in Massachusetts is licensed?

The Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS), part of the Department of Public Health, licenses clinical substance use treatment programs in Massachusetts under 105 CMR 164.000. Ask a program for its BSAS license and the levels of care it covers. BSAS also licenses individual Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

Faith-based programs and peer-run houses are not always licensed clinical treatment. That difference matters if withdrawal or medication is involved. Massachusetts offers voluntary certification for alcohol- and drug-free housing, carried out by the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing. Since September 1, 2016, state agencies and their contracted vendors may refer only to certified homes. When comparing recovery housing in Massachusetts, ask whether a house holds that certification.

How can men pay for treatment in Massachusetts?

Men in Massachusetts can pay through MassHealth, private insurance, state-funded services, sliding-scale fees or TRICARE, depending on what each program accepts. MassHealth is the state’s Medicaid program. For PCC Plan and Primary Care ACO members, behavioral health goes through the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership. Accountable Care Partnership Plans use their own networks. The guide to Medicaid coverage for rehab explains the basics.

Chapter 258 of the Acts of 2014 covers two types of substance use disorder care: acute treatment services and clinical stabilization services. Under that law, MassHealth, the Group Insurance Commission and state-regulated insurers must cover both without prior authorization, in effect since October 1, 2015. Men without coverage can compare state-funded rehab and sliding-scale programs. TRICARE members can ask intake staff whether a program is in network.

Are there men’s programs in Massachusetts for fathers, veterans or people leaving incarceration?

Some Massachusetts listings name services for fathers, veterans, court-involved men or men leaving incarceration. Asking about each track by name gives the clearest answer. Veterans can also use VA medical centers in Boston, Brockton, Bedford and Leeds; see veterans rehab in Massachusetts.

Court-linked treatment runs through the Trial Court’s Specialty Courts Department. The department holds Recovery Courts and Veterans Treatment Courts as sessions within District, Boston Municipal and other courts. Men with a referral can start with court-ordered rehab in Massachusetts and ask whether a program reports attendance.

What should you ask a men’s program before admission?

Before you commit, ask a Massachusetts men’s program who it admits, what medical care it provides and how it involves family. Useful questions include:

What is the accepted age range? Are transgender and nonbinary men admitted? Is withdrawal medically supported on site? Are medications for opioid use disorder started or continued? Suboxone clinics in Massachusetts list buprenorphine options. Accreditation, languages spoken and populations served are worth asking about too.

The Massachusetts Substance Use Helpline answers at 800-327-5050, or you can text HOPE. For a mental health or substance use crisis, call or text 988. The national treatment referral line is another free option.

Men’s programs in Massachusetts sit close to water and travel links. Nearly all are within 25 miles of a river, a median of 2.4 miles away, most often the Muddy River. Boston Logan International is the nearest airport for a little over one in four. Compare listings by level, payment and admission policy on the Massachusetts rehab page or in the national men’s rehab guide.
