Treatment Centers in Minnesota That Accept Cigna

Minnesota employers’ Cigna Healthcare plans pay for drug and alcohol rehab, and an alliance between Cigna and HealthPartners lets cardholders reach the HealthPartners provider network inside the state. Evernorth Behavioral Health, Cigna’s sister company, handles behavioral health reviews and has its headquarters in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Each Minnesota program here lists its phone line, the treatment it offers, such as detox, residential care, intensive outpatient groups or medication, and whether it has a CARF or Joint Commission seal. The entries are based on federal treatment registers and Minnesota’s own licensing files. Pick a town, then ask the program if it is in your Cigna network.

Does Cigna Cover Rehab in Minnesota?

Yes, for Minnesotans whose employer plan is with Cigna Healthcare. Cigna’s employer plans describe substance use coverage as inpatient and outpatient care followed by case management, with members paying their plan’s cost share. You will find rehabs that accept Cigna among the addiction treatment centers in Minnesota on this page.

Cigna’s coverage in Minnesota depends on its alliance with the health plan HealthPartners. A December 2024 Cigna provider guide says Cigna members can access the HealthPartners network inside the HealthPartners service area, which covers all of Minnesota, North Dakota and eight western Wisconsin counties, and the Cigna network everywhere else. Cigna runs no Minnesota Medical Assistance plan.

Does Cigna Cover Inpatient Rehab in Minnesota?

Yes, when medically necessary under the employer’s plan. Cigna’s treatment guide describes inpatient detox with medical staff around the clock, acute inpatient care after detox, and residential rehab programs lasting 28 days or more. Evernorth’s grid requires authorization for inpatient substance use care and residential treatment, including inpatient addiction programs for dual diagnosis.

How long will Cigna pay for residential rehab?

Cigna does not publish a day limit. Evernorth Behavioral Health decides each continued stay using The ASAM Criteria. Cigna’s guide describes residential treatment as typically 28 days or longer, but the length of any one Minnesota stay depends on clinical progress. Minnesota’s Department of Human Services licenses the treatment programs themselves under chapter 245G of state law.

Does Cigna need prior authorization for inpatient rehab?

Yes. Under Cigna’s network disclosure, any inpatient behavioral stay and any outpatient service beyond routine visits needs prior authorization, and Evernorth’s grid lists inpatient rehab, inpatient detox and residential care. Facility staff assess the member in person first, then call the number on the Cigna card to share the clinical details.

Does Cigna Cover Detox in Minnesota?

Yes. Cigna covers inpatient detox with authorization and ambulatory detox without it, according to Evernorth’s grid. Outpatient detox programs therefore need no request to Evernorth, while a stay at one of the medically monitored detox units needs a call first. Minnesota licenses residential withdrawal management separately, under chapter 245F of state law.

Does Cigna Cover Outpatient Rehab in Minnesota?

Yes. Evernorth’s grid lets routine therapy, family or group sessions, diagnostic evaluations and medication management go ahead without authorization. In Cigna’s own description, IOP programs that take insurance meet three, four or five days weekly, for three to four hours each session.

Cigna marks partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and aftercare programs as “call to verify”, so whether authorization is needed depends on the employer’s plan. Partial hospitalization in Cigna’s guide runs five to seven days a week, six to eight hours a day, so a Minnesota program checks the member’s plan with Evernorth before the first day.

Does Cigna Cover Suboxone, Methadone and Other Addiction Medications?

Yes. Express Scripts, part of Cigna’s Evernorth division, runs Cigna pharmacy benefits, and the Cigna Healthcare Standard 3-Tier Prescription Drug List has a substance use disorder section. Acamprosate sits on Tier 1 there, and addiction medications on that list show no prior authorization flag. Specialty drugs go through Accredo, and Cigna Home Delivery Pharmacy answers around the clock.

Does Cigna cover Suboxone?

Yes. Generic buprenorphine-naloxone is Tier 1 on Cigna’s Standard 3-Tier list, while brand Suboxone is Tier 3 and Zubsolv Tier 2, none with a prior authorization flag. Cigna ended prior authorization for buprenorphine in 2016, and Evernorth’s grid needs no authorization for starting buprenorphine at buprenorphine treatment programs.

Does Cigna cover methadone?

Yes, as a provider-administered outpatient service that Evernorth lists as needing no authorization. A Minnesota employer plan member can start at one of the methadone clinics without a prior request, as long as the clinic is in network. Cigna’s 2026 drug list updates did not change buprenorphine, Vivitrol or naltrexone.

Does Cigna cover alcohol and withdrawal medications?

Yes. Cigna’s Standard 3-Tier list places acamprosate on Tier 1 and Lucemyra, a non-opioid withdrawal medication, on Tier 2 with a quantity limit, so lofexidine withdrawal support is on the list. On July 1, 2026, brand Narcan moved to Tier 3, and Cigna names generic naloxone as the lower-cost option for Minnesota members.

Cigna Rehab Centers Near Minnesota Wilderness, Ski Hills and Waterfalls

Cigna’s alliance guide places every Minnesota county inside the HealthPartners service area, so the alliance rule does not change between the Twin Cities and the Canadian border. What changes is distance. Under the member’s own employer plan, authorization rules for residential and inpatient care stay the same wherever the program is.

Cigna rehab near the Boundary Waters

Cigna members interested in the Boundary Waters, reached from Ely and the Gunflint Trail, can browse rehabs near wilderness areas. A member comparing a program near Ely with rehab options in Virginia on the Iron Range stays inside the HealthPartners network area either way, because the alliance covers all of St. Louis, Lake and Cook counties.

Cigna rehab near Lutsen and the ski hills

Cigna members familiar with the North Shore ski hills at Lutsen, or Giants Ridge near Biwabik, can search programs near ski resorts. A program across the line in western Wisconsin’s Douglas or Bayfield counties also falls inside the HealthPartners service area, according to Cigna’s 2024 alliance guide.

Cigna rehab near Minnehaha Falls

Cigna members in south Minneapolis live near Minnehaha Falls, where Minnehaha Creek drops toward the Mississippi. Rehabs near waterfalls and Longfellow neighborhood programs sit inside the HealthPartners service area, and Evernorth’s payer ID for behavioral claims on Cigna cards is 62308.

How Do I Find a Rehab That Accepts Cigna in Minnesota?

Browse the listings on this page first, filtering by city, insurer or level of care; every Minnesota entry lists its phone number, services and accreditation. When you call, ask whether the program is in the HealthPartners network for Cigna members, since that is the network Cigna uses inside Minnesota, and whether it has an Evernorth contract for behavioral care.

Cigna admission to inpatient, residential or detox care starts with an assessment at the program, then an authorization call to Evernorth Behavioral Health using the number on the ID card. The table shows which network a Cigna member uses by location, according to Cigna’s December 2024 HealthPartners guide, and the main phone lines.

Cigna’s behavioral health arm is a Minnesota company: Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc. is domiciled in the state, with its headquarters on West 78th Street in Bloomington and four care management centers elsewhere. Cigna members in Hennepin County can compare treatment programs in Minneapolis or Eden Prairie rehab centers.

Cigna rehab in Saint Paul

Level-funded plans sold by other companies can also carry Cigna’s network in Ramsey County. Gravie, based in Minneapolis, has providers bill Cigna-network claims under payer ID 62308, and Trustmark Small Business Benefits offers the Cigna PPO network to groups of five or more. Those members call the number on their own card before starting at Saint Paul treatment centers.

Cigna rehab in Moorhead and the Fargo area

Cigna members in Clay County live across the Red River from Fargo. Because Cigna’s alliance guide places North Dakota inside the HealthPartners service area, the same network applies on both sides of the river, which simplifies a choice between rehab programs in Moorhead and programs in Fargo.

Cigna rehab in Duluth and Superior

Cigna members in Duluth live across the harbor from Superior, Wisconsin, in Douglas County, one of the eight western Wisconsin counties Cigna’s 2024 guide includes in the HealthPartners service area. A member can compare downtown Duluth recovery programs with programs in Superior under the same network rule.

Can I use Cigna for rehab in a different state?

Yes. Outside the HealthPartners service area, Cigna members use the Cigna network across the rest of the country, so a Minnesota member can enter a program elsewhere under the same employer plan. The plan’s authorization rules still apply: residential and inpatient care still need Evernorth authorization in advance, while routine outpatient visits, ambulatory detox and methadone dosing do not.

How much does rehab cost with Cigna?

Cigna costs follow the employer’s plan. In Cigna plan documents, an outpatient therapy visit usually costs a set copay outside the deductible, while facility-based levels, from inpatient and residential to day programs and intensive outpatient, usually carry coinsurance once the deductible is met. An out-of-network program usually means a higher deductible and coinsurance, so ask Cigna about network status first.

Cigna no longer sells Medicare coverage: its parent sold the Medicare Advantage and Part D business to Health Care Service Corporation in a sale that closed in March 2025, and the plans took the HealthSpring name at the start of 2026. Minnesotans who need other options can look at rehab covered by Medicaid through Medical Assistance.
