Low Cost Rehab Centers in Minnesota

Low cost rehab in Minnesota usually means treatment paid for, fully or in part, by Medical Assistance, public grant money, a sliding scale fee or a program’s own payment assistance. Some programs also offer free care to people who qualify. The listings below are programs that report at least one of these options. They are spread across the Twin Cities, regional towns such as Duluth and Brainerd, and rural counties.

What you pay depends on the level of care, your coverage and your income. A lower bill should still match what you need medically. This page explains each payment route and who runs public funding in Minnesota. It ends with what to ask before you start.

Common questions about Low Cost Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Minnesota cities have low-cost rehabs?

Low-cost rehab listings in Minnesota cluster most heavily in Duluth, followed by Minneapolis, Brainerd, Cloquet and Grand Rapids. Anyone outside these areas can ask intake staff whether a provider in one of these cities accepts people from elsewhere in the state, and whether sliding fees or state funding apply.

Rehab Centers in Duluthhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/minnesota/duluth-mn/
Do low-cost rehabs in Minnesota take Minnesota Medical Assistance?

Minnesota Medical Assistance, the state's Medicaid program, is recorded by nearly all of the low-cost rehabs in Minnesota as accepted payment, a common route to paying for care.

Medical Assistance coverage usually runs through a health plan such as Blue Plus, HealthPartners, Hennepin Health, PrimeWest Health or UCare. Before admission, members can ask the admissions team whether the program works with their specific plan, since participation varies between providers.

Rehab Centers in Minnesota That Accept Minnesota Medical Assistancehttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/minnesota/minnesota-medical-assistance/
Are there low-cost rehabs near a river in Minnesota?

The Minnesota River, the Credit River and the Sauk River are the most-named rivers near low-cost rehabs in Minnesota. Nearly all of the low-cost rehabs in Minnesota sit within 25 miles of a river.

A median of about 6.3 miles separates a listed facility from its nearest river. Anyone who wants a setting near water can ask intake staff how close the program sits to the river.

How can I get addiction treatment in Minnesota if I can’t afford it?

If you can’t afford addiction treatment in Minnesota, start with a substance use disorder assessment, then match the result to a payment route you qualify for. The assessment sets the level of care that fits, and Medical Assistance pays for the assessment itself.

Payment routes are often mixed up, so the terms on this page are worth separating. Medical Assistance is public coverage that pays the program directly, sliding scale fees follow household income and size, and state or block-grant funded slots go to uninsured or underinsured people, often in limited numbers.

Free care and payment assistance round out the options. Free care means no charge to you, usually because grants, donations or a public payer cover the cost, while payment assistance is a program’s own discount, payment plan or scholarship, with rules that vary by provider.

Treatment at home, such as outpatient counseling or medication, is usually cheaper than a residential stay, because you live at home and pay for sessions rather than room, board and round-the-clock staff. Under the 2026 Medical Assistance schedule, clinically managed residential care pays $400 a day, while individual counseling pays $86.53 an hour.

Payment routeWhat it means
Medicaid (Medical Assistance)Public coverage for people with low income. It pays the program directly for covered treatment.
State or block-grant fundedPrograms that receive public grant money to treat uninsured or underinsured people, often with a limited number of slots.
Sliding scaleA fee set by your household income and size, usually based on pay stubs, a tax return or a benefits letter.
Payment assistanceA program’s own discount, payment plan or scholarship. The rules vary by provider.
Free careNo charge to you. The cost is usually covered by grants, donations or a public payer.

You can browse each route on its own page: state funded rehab in Minnesota, sliding scale programs and free rehab options.

Does Minnesota pay for rehab for people without insurance?

Minnesota does put public money into treatment for uninsured and low-income residents, though slots and waits vary by program. The Behavioral Health Administration in the Minnesota Department of Human Services administers the federal Substance Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services Block Grant. State law names the department’s Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Section as the state authority for alcohol and drug programs.

Opioid settlement money is a second source. It goes into Minnesota’s Opiate Epidemic Response Fund, and an advisory council chooses which grants it pays for. The federal State Opioid Response grant, held by the department, also helps widen access to medications for opioid use disorder.

State sources list no statewide substance use phone line. An older Department of Health handout points instead to Fast-Tracker, a free online search of mental health and substance use treatment openings in Minnesota.

Who gets priority for funded slots?

Under federal rule 45 CFR 96.131, programs that receive block grant money must give pregnant people preference in admission. Pregnant people who inject drugs come first, then other pregnant people with a substance use disorder. If no program can admit them, the state must arrange interim services within 48 hours, including a referral for prenatal care. The department also funds Women’s Recovery Services grants for pregnant and parenting women. Programs are listed under rehab for pregnant women in Minnesota.

Does Minnesota Medical Assistance cover addiction treatment?

Medical Assistance, Minnesota’s Medicaid program, covers substance use disorder treatment. Adults without children can qualify under the state’s Medicaid expansion. Its 2026 rate schedule pays for the assessment, individual and group counseling, and both clinically managed and medically monitored residential care.

Many members get their coverage through a health plan such as Blue Plus, HealthPartners, Hennepin Health, Medica, PrimeWest Health, South Country Health Alliance or UCare. Ask whether a program is in your plan’s network. Medical Assistance is separate from private plans bought on the health insurance marketplace. The Department of Human Services decides eligibility.

Medical Assistance also pays for treatment by live video, and in some cases by phone only, which can save travel costs in rural areas. See telehealth rehab in Minnesota for programs. RehabSeekers.com’s Medicaid page explains how listings show this coverage.

Why does outpatient care usually cost less?

Outpatient care, intensive outpatient and medication treatment usually cost less than residential care. You live at home and pay for sessions, not room, board and staff around the clock. Medical Assistance’s 2026 provider rates show the gap: $400 a day for clinically managed residential care, against $86.53 an hour for individual counseling, before add-ons. You can compare outpatient programs, intensive outpatient, Suboxone clinics and residential rehab.

What should I ask a program about cost before I start?

Ask what you will owe in total, not only whether the program takes your coverage. Useful questions include:

Is the program in network with your plan? How much of your deductible and coinsurance will you pay before the plan pays? Are medications billed separately? For a sliding scale, what proof of income does the program need? Is there a waitlist for a funded slot, and what support is available while you wait?

Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can be dangerous and may need medical supervision. A lower-cost plan should still include medically supervised detox when a clinician recommends it. In an emergency, call 911. For a mental health or substance use crisis, call or text 988. The national treatment referral line is free and can point you to services.

Reading the Minnesota low cost listings

Each listing shows the payment types the program reports. These can include Medical Assistance, Medicare, sliding scale, payment assistance, cash or self-pay, and private insurance. Ask the program about current fees and openings.

Low cost programs in Minnesota are spread fairly evenly: 32 percent are in urban areas, 36 percent in towns and 31 percent in rural places. Nearly all of them, 98 percent, sit within 25 miles of a river, most often the Minnesota River. The nearest airport is a median of 14.7 miles away, and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International is the closest airport for the largest share.

Listing details come from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and information supplied by the providers themselves. For every program type in the state, start at the Minnesota treatment listings.
